We need a consistently conservative nominee with a deep understanding of fiscal policy. We need a nominee who will center the election on our fiscal crisis in a way that appeals to people across the ideological spectrum, but also takes the fight to President Obama.
We understand Paul Ryan is not interested in becoming President. Nevertheless, the purpose of this campaign is to use our votes to convince him to enter. If we fail, we’ll at least promote his message and draw the country’s focus back to the defining issue of our time.
We hope to run the campaign like any other campaign until Paul Ryan enters the race. We’ll do voter outreach and traditional campaign activities, but we’ll have people from all over the country helping online. If you would like to participate in this effort, fill out the volunteer form and register for the forum. Most of our activities will be coordinated through the forum, so check back often!
Yes, we’re serious. This is an extraordinary proposition, but these are extraordinary times.
Realistically, this campaign can achieve a lot of positive outcomes. All of the early primaries allocate their delegates by proportional representation. All of them, except Nevada, have had their state’s share of delegates cut in half. There is a long quiet period in February. Then most of the delegates are up for grabs. With a strong showing in those early states, Paul Ryan could be persuaded to enter a still-fluid primary.
Every vote for Paul Ryan is a message to the candidates and the overall party: candidates must develop and articulate a deeper understanding of our fiscal crisis; and the Republican Party must run a campaign of courage rather than convenience. If we cannot cut spending and reform entitlements, America’s future is in jeopardy.
