Social Security = paycheck for some.

NJ Gov. Chris Christie warned an audience of national Republicans, hosted by former President George W. Bush, that the country is in danger of becoming a “paternalistic entitlement society” where people sit on the couch, “waiting for the next government check.”  Christe wants to reign in entitlement spending in order to get the country back on track.

Many pundits point to unsustainable entitlement programs as the main culprit to the current debt crisis.  Included among these programs is Social Security.  However, Social Security is supposed to have a trust fund, but Washington has spent it on other things.

The US is off track because the government is out of control.  Government is wasting money on wars, overlapping programs, payoffs to cronies, welfare, workfare, earmarks and themselves.  Government is shutting down business with taxes, rules, regulations and uncertainty.

Things are moving the wrong way.  Real unemployment is up, the real cost of living is up and the outlook for jobs looks bleak.  Without a job, people opt for a government Social Security check because that’s what’s available and they paid into that program whether Christe likes it or not.

speaking only about Social Security checks.

My mother ‘sits on the couch’ too…but she’s 92 and that is all she CAN do.
She lives off her Social Security check and uses her Medicare coverage quite often. My father worked HARD for 50 yrs, saving what extra money was available after feeding and clothing 9 children. It wasn’t much.

I’m pretty certain that Gov. Christie isn’t talking about people like my mom.
More likely to those who are collecting welfare payments or unemployment checks?
