MEMBER DIARY

Direct vote on the Senate bill starting to turn some Democratic House members’ stomachs again? Also, pro-life groups cutting off Obama and Pelosi at every pass.

There is some interesting things that have happened today.  The bogus”Glenn Nye is a yes” story from the AP.  Obama, Pelosi, and Hoyer trying to for the umpteenth time trying to fool Stupak with empty promises.  The latest being getting a presidential executive order that would ban public funding of abortions.  Of course we know this is a useless offer as this would have to be enforced by the Executive branch.  What do you think of the chances are of that happening?  Catholic leadership and Pro-life groups subsequently burned this road for Obama.  They are not budging.  No roads left for Obama and Pelosi trying to get Stupak aboard.

Organizing for America is starting to get nervous about Loretta Sanchez.  You have to wonder about these “Obvious Yes” Democrats who are still undecided.  As they start to digest that they are going to have to vote directly for the Senate bill, it’s going to get more sour as time goes by.   No reconciliation is going to happen and if it does, it will go on until the mid-terms.  Dick Durbin saying the reconciliation bill would be passed by the Easter recess was quite laughable.

This isn’t over by any stretch.  We can still win this.  Keep up those calls, emails and faxes!

Target List:

PRIORITY #1

Lincoln Davis

John Cooper

John Tanner

PRIORITY #2

Then of course, a modified target list:

Paul Kanjorski (PA-11), Earl Pomeroy (ND-All), Nick Rahall (WV-3), Bart Stupak (MI-1), Marion Berry (AR-1), Joe Cao (LA-2, Republican), Jerry Costello (IL-12), Kathy Dahlkemper (PA-3), Joe Donnelly (IN-2), Steve Driehaus (OH-1), Marcy Kaptur (OH-9), Dan Lipinski (IL-3),  Brian Baird (WA-3), Rick Boucher (VA-9), Jim Matheson (UT-2) (NO), Glenn Nye (VA-2)

Keep fighting until the vote.  Keep fighting if no vote happens.

Nye is being reported NO by HHR. Trying to get confirmation.

Makes sense. Big military presence in his district

I absolutely would not count on Sanchez if she’s the crucial vote.

In fact, I predict that all CA Dems will be ‘All In’ on this.

And, as a result, we may be able to take up to 4 of them (McNerney (CA-11), Cardoza (CA-18), Costa (CA-20) and Loretta Sanchez (CA-47)) out in November…

I don’t know if this is rock solid. Have to wait.

The Nye, fake “yes”…is clear sign they do not have the votes cemented yet. At least they are having to work for this.

The Senate Bill is just too terrible for them, mandatory health insurance or be fined and jailed, with no options. The progressives can’t stomach the mandatory forking over money to the dreaded insurance companies.

This shift proves that Obama’s pep talk amounted to nothing.

But the most important thing is that other Dems on the fence will be less inclined to vote yes, not because the deal is done, but its close and they dont want to risk taking a bullet for a loser.

They’ve shown they will sacrifice for the cause, but will they for a bill that will fail. This wont matter for the retirees like Tanner and Baird or the pro-life Dems in Blue districts like Kaptur.

But I think this momentum is a killer for people like Rahall and Mollohan. They will have tough races in WV, Obama is not popular there, and are they willing to stick their neck out for nothing.

Could this shift cause the dam to break?

I think it’s kind of obvious that Democratic leadership wants to advance a confident inevitability strategy. It’s not a bad type of strategy. After all, who like to vote on the losing side? But it kind of irks me to see GOP pessimists playing into that strategy by going on TV with the pessimism. I have no problem with people being pessimistic, but please keep a lid on it! For example, Governor Huckabee was on Hannity, before the Democrats canceled their deem and pass strategy, and he predicted not only that the courts would look the other way, but also that the Dems will win the big vote on Sunday. I very much disagree with Huckabee that the courts would have looked the other way, and I think the vote tomorrow is too close to call, but if I agreed on either score I would have kept quiet about it until we know for sure. Sheesh.

He is my representative, unfortunately, although I give him some credit for standing with Stupak. We are praying that he stands firm. HCR isn’t that popular here, but the unions are so strong that, if the leaders support it, a Yes vote might squeak by. His local office hasn’t been answering the phones and his Washington office has been continually busy.

analysis of where this vote is *really* at (just posted it) and this cuts Nancy’s margin of error down to about zero. And Sanchez wasn’t on *anybody’s* radar screen.

I’m not going to repeat it all here but, folks, *we’re* not the ones that need to be out on a ledge.

Keep pounding…keep the faith…We. Can. Do. This!!!!!

You deserve medals for your fantastic and timely updates informing and motivating the troopers here at RS. You guys have done a great job at keeping us unwashed masses from jumping off the ledge of complacency. Thanks for everything you’re doing to help; it is appreciated.

      Couldn’t agree more.

By the way, no problem on the updates. :) Morale is so important at times like this. In times like these, any freedom loving American has a duty to defend her country when it is in danger.

Sanchez’s case is peculiar. Why would Organizing for America send out a “distress” call like that? Something is up. Axelrod probably put in a panic call.

How about this….what if she doesn’t show up to vote tomorrow? Did she leave D.C.? Her being listed as no on that local website via Roll Call could float that possibility?

Based on what I’ve read, it would only make permanent the Hyde Amendment rather than require its regular renewal. The problem is that the funding in this bill is either outside the scope of or would override anything in any Hyde Amendment.

They would have to be dumb as a bucket of rocks to accept that.

“What are we to do about these CHRISSSSSSSSSTIANS who are driving away moderates and independents”…

Well kids…We’ve been the ones fighting the Dems in the streets, and in the alleys, in the trenches…in the sewers and everywhere else against impossible odds for almost 40 years now…we know how to play this game…

isn’t it ironic…after the last couple years of vilification and vitriolic attacks by establishment Republicrats…that the strongest force right now…and the people everyone is looking to for hope in stopping Obama care are the very people the party is ashamed to associate with?
