Final, bold, or maybe not so bold(?) prediction: Reid will let Boehner bill pass unamended by simple majority vote

I know, that may make some people mad in here.  Let me explain:

As it stands right now, Reid has no give from his far left wing of Senators on cutting spending to negotiate a deal with McConnell.  He has the enormous public problem of the Senate having done nothing and time is running out.  The GOP has enormous negotiating leverage from Boehner structuring the debt ceiling issue to happen in February 2012, much to Barack Obama’s chagrin, and the BBA that was inserted to get the second House bill passed onto the Senate last night.   This creates an impossible situation for Reid because he would have to pay a very, very heavy price to get those off the table.  Barring Mitch McConnell stupidly giving Barack Obama unilateral authority and letting Reid escape, Boehner’s bill with vote on BBA in the future will be pulled off the table and pass unamended by simple majority vote out of the Senate.  Reid is openly talking about the McConnell option to save his butt.  Make sure you let Mitch McConnell and those GOP Senators not to proceed with this idea.

Reid will likely give his unwilling blessing to vulnerable Democratic Senators whom are up in 2012 to vote yea.  This probably won’t please DeMint or the other Tea Party senators since it will make the GOP Senate look foolish for filabustering the GOP sponsored House bill.  Any amendment to Boehner’s bill by either side gets cancelled out by the opposing side’s objection/filabuster.  I don’t see a way that Reid and McConnell can negotiate anything where both sides will agree to since each side’s most liberal and most conservative bloc aren’t going to budge.  This much is certain.

We can debate how Boehner should have just sat on his hands after CCB.  In some respects, I think he did a decent job and his Tea Party caucus saved him from making a very grave error.  However, count this whole experience and battle as a learning lesson for the next big battle in February and the ultimate battle royale in November next year.

If this does take place, keep in mind that the left is going to be very angry about this outcome, screaming how their leaders caved though the President and Harry Reid will try their utmost to spin this as a victory.  Then again, I could be wrong as I was about taking what we could get this past week :)

Feel free to express anyway the GOP could wring out anything more.  Maybe I’m missing something.
