MEMBER DIARY

Washington D.C. against Rick Perry and the ordinary Americans whom encouraged him to run

It has been truly amazing to witness the ferocity of the MSM, Democrats and the establishment GOP trying to take Rick Perry down since he announced his run for the presidency.  From activist parents coaching their kids to ask Perry trap questions to GOP congressmen telling Perry to tone down his unabashed rhetoric, to crazy columnists going off the deep end.  There is no need for me to link anything that has been going on.  You have seen it all.

Rick Perry was pushed into this race prominently by conservative voters whom were unhappy with the field.  This of course has truly upset the GOP establishment and political operatives whom have axes to grind due to having their butts handed to them by Perry in past elections.  It has also likely upset the establishment’s pecking order of whom really has the best chance of winning the presidency and terrified them of being frozen out of a Perry presidency.

The latest tactics seem to try to press other potential candidates like Chris Christie and Paul Ryan to run whom I believe are well served by staying where they are at.  Heck, the establishment would love Sarah Palin to enter since it would direct the enthusiasm that GOP voters have for Rick Perry right now.  This would likely serve to blunt the runaway momentum that Perry has generated this past week with his campaign’s superb roll out.  The more candidates that enter, the more fragmented the base becomes which would make it easy for an establishment candidate like Mitt Romney to win the nomination.  You see, though Romney is polling well right now, people just cannot get excited about him.   He’s not exactly a candidate that inspires me and other voters and the establishment may be coming to that realization.

Rick Perry has a marvelous story to tell.  He was not born into privilege.  His humble beginnings and upbringing make it impossible for Democrats to claim that Rick Perry is just another silver spoon Republican candidate.  He is not shy about his faith in God, in people to succeed on their own and be responsible human beings, that believe in the foundations of freedom and liberty that have made this country great.  He has an incredible record as governor of Texas for 10 years with a job creation record so astounding that if he was the nominee, how in the world could any Democratic candidate beat him on the number one issue of this election?

If Rick Perry is the GOP nominee for President of the United States, he will be practically impossible to beat

Perry has not been perfect but he is willing to admit when he is wrong on something which is refreshing.  For too long we have lived with groomed establishment candidates and it is apparent that Rick Perry is anything but that.  He and Sarah Palin are the only ones whom can say were not picked by an establishment that always in the end, tries to muzzle them and cut out their legs.  How does the establishment know how independents and moderates will vote?  People follow courage, strength, and fearlessness in people like Rick Perry.  People who let American voters they stand for, their life and political record which validate their principles, and let the chips fall where they may.  The establishment should be reminded that independent voters disapprove of the job Barack Obama is doing by a 2 to 1 margin.  Now what makes you think that independent voters are going to flee to re-elect a president who has been disastrous for this country, our economy, and our country’s well being?  I highly doubt they will run away from Rick Perry.  They will likely be drawn to his record of job creation in Texas and realize that there is hope and things will get better again.

Rick Perry is no Ronald Reagan.  He is Rick Perry.  There never will be another Ronald Reagan.  However, I cannot tell you by how impressed I have been with Perry’s showing thus far and how he and his campaign team has handled themselves with the attacks that have been coming from every direction, including that of his own party.  This man should be our nominee for President because he stands for what we believe in and wasn’t hand-selected by the establishment.  The establishment’s attacks against Perry tell me with each passing day that we have our guy.

In closing, I do have one hope and that Perry doesn’t change anything he is doing and that he just keeps being himself.  I don’t want to see him fall into the trap that Michelle Bachmann has apparently fallen into which is micromanaging their actions and settings.  So long as he is his natural self, he will be just fine.

Forward.

He has a few other things going for him.

I found locally that even in a democrat majority area, if you are a good looking republican guy, you’ll get democrat women crossing over to vote for you against a less attractive guy. I’ve seen it happen 3 times here locally. I see this with Perry’s good looks and ‘the hair’.

Second, Perry and his team are not political rookies. They have had over a decade of working together to know what works and doesn’t. Most of what Perry’s been doing this last week has been on purpose because they knew what to expect. This means Perry knows how do deal with Obama and the media, wrapping them around his little pinky. You can tell that Palin has learned the same lesson and is using it to great effect. It’s called knowing how to get your message out past the filters of others. Reagan was awesome at this, and he didn’t have what we have today.

  • lineholder

But I’ve seen plenty of interesting information during the past two days relating to his candidacy.

For example, he and Bachmann are tied in the polls, leading the race in WI
    http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/PPP_Release_WI_0817513.pdf

According to what most political pundits would call “common knowledge”, a conservative can’t win in a historically liberal state like WI, right? Conservatism is bad. Conservatism doesn’t really appeal to a broad spectrum of people. Conservatism has to be muted to a moderate level so that we can win the election. That’s been the buzz lately, hasn’t it?

Then I saw this hilarious piece by Micheal Tomasky, who has become my favorite “spin” author in recent weeks. The title of piece is “Perry: King of the Know-Nothings”.
    http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2011/08/18/rick-perry-outflanking-george-w-bush-on-the-far-right.html

There’s also this insidious conspiracy-theory based piece by Michelle Goldberg that goes after both Bachmann and Perry, titled “A Christian Plot for Domination?”
    http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2011/08/14/dominionism-michele-bachmann-and-rick-perry-s-dangerous-religious-bond.html

But I’ve been getting into the facts today, just to find out the stand he has taken on different positions in the past.

    • pttx333

I am comfortable with the fact that Rick Perry is certainly experienced enough and strong enough to be our President. In Texas we do not live under any sort of “Christian domination” or any of the other wild-eyed, loony things I’ve read about him. Believe me, the b.o. goons, the Ron Paul loons and the old warhorse Repubs who are RINOs have had their knives out since before Perry even declared he was running. Don’t believe every negative thing you hear and/or read. Not by a long shot.

I have not and do not agree 100% with Perry, but I do know that he is a good, decent, stand-up man who tells it like it is and damn the consequences. We do not need another irresponsible, indecisive, corrupt, effete, prissy, limp-wristed guy in OUR White House. I feel that more than ever we now need someone who will take the bull by the horns and get things done – and Perry is the guy who can and will do just that.

For what it is worth, I am a feisty 70 year-old great-grandmother who knows a thing or two about politics, the world and people in general. Do your research and you will know what to do. Good luck!

      • Scope

Good to see a feisty Texan giving Perry the thumbs up. Gee, from the sounds of it, I kinda thought that everyone in Texas loved Ron Paul. LOL They sure have been all over the place saying that Perry can’t even win his own state.

        • pttx333

good to hear from you. Yep, this feisty Texas gal is Perry all the way – can’t stand Ron Paul – and don’t believe a word of Paul’s supporters! They are mostly young and/or Austin yuppie types (translate that to San Francisco greenies/vegans eaten up with PC) who are in the tank with Paul due to his cock-eyed beliefs – legalizing drugs and prostitution, no war of any kind, it is ok if Iran gets nukes, blah blah blah. NO NO NO – Texans are not Ron Paul supporters, at least not the majority of sane folks, but I can tell you that his supporters are rude, obnoxious, vile and will say anything to see if any of their crapola will stick – sorta like throwing spaghetti at a wall to see if it sticks. I lived in Paul’s district for a long time (and will probably be moving back again before long) and could never understand how such a nutjob kept being elected since the district is mostly conservative. After thinking about it, I believe that he kept being swept along by those who voted straight Repub ticket. But trust me when I say that his wild-eyed loony supporters will skew any poll they can skew (as just happened in Iowa) – they do it over and over. I envision all of these childish, infantile morons sitting in their underwear in Mom’s basement just living for whatever websites they can invade. When you think of Ron Paul, think Lyndon LaRouche. A few good ideas (maybe) and the rest is pure malarkey from outer space. Oh, yeah, he says he’s been in an alien spaceship – yeppers – that is what he said. Think “Twilight Zone.”

Oh, boy, sorry to bend your ear, but this feisty old gal is on a roll and totally full of stories, as usual. Hope this has helped you, Scope.

          • Scope

I think you are going to like it around these parts. You already sound just like an oldtime RedStater. Any info/stories you have about Texas and Perry and Paul are helpful to everyone. Welcome.

          • pttx333

You know, I just discovered Red State a few days ago – found the link on some other conservative site – and am tickled pink to see like-minded people who can write with intellect and tell-it-like-it-is values.

A good story, at least to me, is about Perry’s wife, Anita, who is almost never mentioned. I had the good fortune to meet her at a political rally a few years ago on the courthouse square in Lampasas. Not only did I meet her, but as she was going through the line speaking to people (meet-and-greet thing), we began to talk. Of course, security tried to move her along but she waved them away and said she wasn’t finished talking to me. I was telling her a story about when I lived in Tom DeLay’s district and received a call from a pollster and became furious about how they skew polls. I was asked: “If you were to vote today, would you vote for Lampson who is endorsed by the Houston Chronicle (a/k/a the Comical), the Houston firefighters, Houston police union, etc., or would you vote for DeLay.” Well, that set me off and I shouted “Tom DeLay” and hoped that I burst her ear drum. She hung up on me – HAHA. That, dear folks, is how polls are skewed. There are those who would hear all of the endorsements and figure that would be who to vote for. NOT! And this is how we got b.o. (that is how I refer to him since he is so odious) and his wife Mitchell Antoinette – the total ignorance of too many of our voting populace. Lordy, I do wish it was legal to have at least a small IQ test for anyone wishing to vote!!

Whoops! Got off track – sorry. Back to Anita Perry – I want everyone to know that she is a nurse and a beautiful, refined, gracious, kind, dignified LADY (keyword) who would do us proud in OUR White House. Man, she and Rick would do us proud – totally unlike the low-class trash who currently reside there and are an embarassment to this great nation.

I’m so glad to have found Red State – what a great site it is. I will post more stories as time goes by. Though I was born in Oklahoma, I’ve lived in Texas for all but four years of my life. Wouldn’t live anywhere else – even with the heat, mosquitoes (Houston area), etc.

PERRY 2012 – he’s the one who will win!

          • Scope

Or better yet, raise the voting age to 40. LOL

Good to know a little about Perry’s wife. In other words she wouldn’t be wearing the dinning room drapes at the inauguration. I bet she wouldn’t rent an entire hotel to vacation with a few of her closest friends on the taxpayer’s dime either.

          • pttx333

except, for whatever reason, I’ve always voted Republican. I was brought up in a Democrat household and my folks couldn’t understand my thought process, but, to be fair, they were Harry Truman dems and didn’t “get it” that the dems had left them. My folks were conservative like me. My very first time to vote for President was when I was 22 years old (voting age was 21 then) and I very proudly voted for Barry Goldwater. I’ve never voted for a dem – always said I would vote for the man, but it always seemed like the ones I chose happened to be Repubs. It has been a long time, though, since a person could vote for the man and feel comfortable. The dems totally rule their folks and anyone you would vote for as a dem would have to follow, in lock step, the outrageous party line.

As far as Perry being a dem way back when, most of Texas was democrat leaning. Perry has always been conservative, but, like me, was brought up in a dem household and, from what I understand, when he became a repub there was a lot of hullabaloo with his family. That is just the way it was in Texas back then. He was brought up on a farm in the Abilene area, was an Eagle Scout, and met his wife at a piano recital when he was 8 years old. Of course, they didn’t marry for many years. He graduated Texas A&M and for those who are unfamiliar with A&M, it is a tough school and produces some of the finest folks anywhere. He joined the Air Force and was a pilot. Those are some mighty fine credentials in my book.

What is this stuff about bashing religion these days? Where did it begin and why? I’ve never heard Perry try to push religion down anyone’s throat, and since when it is horrible to proclaim that you are a Christian? Is this what we have come to be these days?

Love your dining room drapes comment! HAHAHA Oh, no, Scope, I can promise you that Anita Perry would never wear the clothing (I use the term loosely here) that Mitchell Antoinette clomps (yes, I said and meant “clomps”) along in – and I’m appalled when I hear the droolers call her a fashion maven. What a joke!!! Mrs. Perry is the basic black dress and pearls type of LADY and that speaks volumes. And, nope, the Perrys are not the type to flaunt anything – much less the sinful displays and actions we have observed the past nearly-three years. BARF! I do believe that couple truly believe that they will one day be coronated Emperor and Empress of the entire world. It would appear that is the goal with all of the bowing and scraping, apologizing, etc. going on. WILL IT NEVER END?

            PERRY 2012!

          • Scope

when we witness the inauguration of Rick Perry in Jan. 2013.

The bashing of religion and the Christians in particular started long long ago with the liberals/progressives. They can’t have people honoring and worshipping God above them and their idea of utopia. Karl Marx said that the only way that people will find happiness is by abolishing religion. The current regime of Marxists in Washington is trying to supplant happiness with government handouts, in order to try to prove that they are better than God. What a refreshing thought that a God loving president Perry would stop that trash right in it’s tracks, and not a minute too soon.

It doesn’t bother me one bit that Perry was once a Democrat, so was Reagan, and many of the posters here at RS as well. I look at them like former smokers who have quit. They hate the sight and smell of smoke.

          • pttx333

January 2013 will be a blessed time for this great country. It is shaping up to be a horrible time between now and then, though. All I want is for Perry to not change one thing about himself, he’s good to go just as he is – just be himself. PERIOD! He speaks the truth and, like I always told my son and daughter, always tell the truth and do the right thing then you’re never wrong. (Of course, I would have whopped ‘em one if they hadn’t! HA) But I believe that Perry is totally braced for what he is facing and the viciousness that is yet to come – and he is certainly man enough to handle whatever comes his way. Those libs/Marxists/loons will stop at nothing – and it is a worldwide effort in my view. b.o. (I refuse to capitalize those letters) went into this whole mess with the total intent to do exactly what he has done, and he isn’t through. Who is the puppetmaster – Soros? b.o. isn’t smart enough to dream this up all by his lonesome. Did he just pop up from hell below or what? Who and what is he? I totally believe that the wife and kids are props (just like the dog) and everything has been planned for years. b.o. is a malignant narcissist who has no empathy for anyone on the planet. Why can’t people see it? I knew instantly who he was and what he was about – never could stand his voice, his looks, his imperial attitude, etc. The devil incarnate.

I know that the rumblings about religion have been around a long while, but it became extremely vicious not that long ago, or so it seems to me. Some of the things I read, and I’m on the computer a lot, just curl my toenails. I just don’t get it. And the Jewish people – why do they overwhelmingly vote for dems? My God, the persecution they have been through is mind-numbing, yet they, for the most part, continue to vote for the most liberal folks they can find. And even though it is once again “en vogue” to bash them, they still don’t get it. Guess it goes along with the Bible’s mention that Jews will be blinded until the last days. God love ‘em.

How can anyone believe they will be happy without faith in God? How can they believe that some “goobermint” is superior to a higher being? Guess that is why the porch monkeys sit on their porches waiting for someone to come along and throw a check at them. Down with entitlements! I believe in charity for those who are truly disabled or infirm in some way, but not for some able-bodied slob to sit on their fannies and whine until they’re paid off.

But we can and will get through it. For the first time in a very long time, I truly believe there is hope and that, with God’s grace, we will come through this darkness.

I’m so happy to have found you folks at Red State. Thanks for allowing me to vent.

  • Toby Calvert-Lee

Your praise of Perryand your interpretation of independent voters. I have long since thought that there is no such thing as too radical to win a general. Independents vote for whoever they think will lead best, regardless of views. Reagan and Obama proved that. They just happened to choose wrong with Obama.

    • perry4prez

The American people are hungry for leadership. Of course we have close elections when we Republicans nominate mushy candidates like McCain and Romney. Those candidates are not leaders, because they stand for nothing. That it is why it is so refreshing to have a candidate like Governor Perry who calls it like it is: that Socialism is wrong, that Liberty is precious, and that we should honor God and our country.

    • acat

      (nothing further)

  • Scope

you wrote this diary. It is so uplifting and encouraging, and makes it a no brainer that Perry can and will get a wide swath of voters. Heck he will even get many Democrats to vote for him, and that’s saying something. He is the face of real hope and optimism.

If anyone had problems with their donations not going through on announcement day, try again. I got a message that my donation didn’t go through, so I did it again, and doubled my original amount.

    I believe.

  • runner12

I am definitely leaning towards Perry, although I do not agree with him on everything. He scares the Left to pieces, because they know he has a good shot at winning.

I would love to see a Perry/Rubio ticket. The Left and their ilk would have an epic meltdown.

On a side note, I am really hoping that Palin will not get in the race. This Sept. 3rd event she is having has me worried. I would much rather see her run for Senate in AZ or something.

    • Toby Calvert-Lee

I love Sarah to death, but I think she would just allow Romney to win. I couldn’t support her just because of her lack of experience but she’d be amillion times better than Romney. If she runs for senate, she’d be perfectly suited for the white house in 2020

      • RealQuiet

You would have to think that Rove and grudge establishment company are salivating at the possibility of Palin taking away a significant portion of Perry’s support. This of course could no doubt bring Mitt Romney’s chances back to life. I have to wonder if Palin has been talking with establishment trying to line up some support given her implied endorsement of Orrin Hatch a few days ago. It does make one wonder.

        • gekster

I think she is playing with the field. She seams good at tweeking.
As long as she keeps them guessing, it takes attention off of the other candidates.
And she did endorse Perry for Texas Govenor, why not for Prez,
          Well maybe in due time.

          • RealQuiet

She certainly has proven to be tough to pin down.

        • Scope

I think Rove would be the last one Palin would give any kind of heads up to about her plans. As Leon wrote a day or so ago, she really does need to let her supporters know what she is planning, and, if she will not be running, she needs to let her supporters go and support other candidates. It would seem to me that Rove would want Palin’s supporters to hang on to their hopes for her run, so as not to go the way of Perry. As we have all seen, Rove wants to keep every vote away from Perry that he can. From what I’ve read, Rove is only basing his ideas of a Palin run based on Palin’s schedule for the first week in Sept. Palin has still not set up any campaign teams anywhere, and she can’t depend solely on her supporters to put her in the WH, any more than Ron Paul can count on his supporters to give him a win. I still think she will not run. I am still going back to a comment she made about releasing her supporters to go with other candidates. She said something about making a timely decision and not letting her supporters hang.

          • pttx333

I have read snippets that Palin has some sort of big plans scheduled for September 3rd and have assumed that she will announce something at that time.

          • Toby Calvert-Lee

won’t amount to anything. It’s just another speech. She gives a lot of those. the only real indication of her maybe running was her video that her team released yesterday. I just hope to the dear lord she has the good sense to sit this one out.

        • pttx333

It is stunning what Rove, et al., are doing to Perry because they are sooooo in the tank for Romney – one that I never ever cared about. Couldn’t quite put a finger on my “hinky” feelings about him, but now it is clear as a bell. The whole lot of them are on my list as RINOs and will remain there. After this stunt, there is no redemption for them in my view. Dirty, dirty, dirty.

I hadn’t thought of your Palin angle, but it is interesting and disturbing. I have wondered, though, if there might be some sort of Perry/Palin plot going on also. Then, given that she and Todd have purchased a home in AZ, maybe she will run for Senate out there. I agree that she isn’t ready for prime time yet, but will be with experience under her belt in a few more years.

As a virtual newcomer to Red State, I have a question. Do you have any or many Ron Paul supporters posting here? They are like gnats swarming everywhere and I am just wondering.

          • gekster

and they swarm like cockraoches on a kitchen countertop.
You’ll see them when they pop up, but light tends to scatter them.
A few of the mind numbed ones get banned, but all in all, not so terrible.

          • Scope

Last election season, the site made the decision to ban anyone who ever was here shilling for Ron Paul. The guy had no chance of winning in 08, and he has about the same chance of winning in 2012, why waste the time. Most are one track thinkers, and nothing exists for them except trying to sell Paul, whether you want to buy or not. There probably isn’t much of anything that hasn’t been discussed here about Paul. They certainly have been allowed to post, as long as they are not rude as typical Paul supporters are, and are willing to engage in rational discussions. They usually out themselves, and wind up all but asking to be banned with their rudeness. They seem to come in waves, probably as a result of articles being linked or listed at the Hill etc.

You will enjoy a weekly feature here during the silly season, The Horserace. Erick Erickson, writes it each week, and each week he includes the same comment about Ron Paul- He will not be the nominee. That angers the Paulies, and they come out screaming that Erick is trying to degrade his race. Oh, you will enjoy it here pttx. Just duck when you see some of the incoming bombs, or a loose cannon comes out shooting his AK47 at everyone. You can usually come out of the fallout shelter pretty quickly.

BTW, as I said to you on another site, thanks for your activism in getting this country back on track. It’s refreshing, and so necessary.

          • pttx333

Oh, I talked to you on another site, Scope? Interesting and glad you’re out there in the cruel world. And thank God above that you are monitoring Red State – I didn’t realize it was such a special place. Just can’t tell you how honored and privileged I feel. Wow.

Oh, yes, the Paul and his loons are absolutely insane. Cockroaches is a perfect analogy. HA And every bit of it HAS to be going on with Paul’s personal stamp of approval or it wouldn’t be happening. Thank God this is a safe haven where we can speak freely without being bombarded with rude and crude remarks and the disgusting, filthy lies they tell. I lit into one of them somewhere for mentioning that Perry is gay! And this right on top of Paul’s dirty supporter, Robert Morrow in Austin with his one-page ad in an Austin newspaper trolling for gays, strippers and/or “hotties” with stories involving Perry. I do believe there is a special hell for folks who do these things. I can only imagine the things they do of which no one is aware. Honestly, they all appear to be certifiable. Thank God that Paul has announced that he won’t run for Congress again. He is the poster boy for term limits – well, along with numerous others. HA

When is the silly season? Now? Boy, this is the time for it with all of the things going on. Believe me, I am a big girl and don’t shock easily. Plus we need silliness in our lives, so I will truly love the silly season. I retired early (unfortunately) as a legal secretary then paralegal for many years for the largest reputable firm inTexas (I assume they still are the largest), working in downtown Houston – they are all over the world and you would know who they are. So I’ve seen and heard a lot. I miss it with all of my heart and soul and regret deeply that I thought I was tired and wanted to leave too soon. Will be going back to work somewhere soon, though not downtown again – not at age 70. And I’m just not the type to sit in a rocking chair and knit – there is more to life for me. I’ll die “with my boots on” and be most happy while doing it.

You are more than welcome regarding my activism – it is selfishly my passion. But for a lady of my circumstances there are few platforms in which to get the word out there in the world. I truly meant what I said earlier about being thankful for having a place to vent here at Red State. THANK YOU ALL! I just keep thinking if I can say something that might enlighten just one person, then I’ve accomplished a lot. I will be going through the entire site and catching up on all of the good stuff that I know is posted here somewhere. Knowledge is a wonderful defense to anything, and we can never get enough of it.

So it is onward, upward with swords drawn! There is much to accomplish with all of the droolers out there. Man oh man – the ignorance is astounding. But, with God’s help, we’ll fix at least part of it.

          • Scope

I am not monitoring RS. I am a poster, that is all. I have absolutely nothing to do with anything that is said, or goes on with RS. I am at the same level as you are as a poster, but, that doesn’t make any of our voices not valuable or valid.

          • pttx333

Glad to be corrected on my assuming that there was some sort of monitor or person in charge, so to speak. Guess I thought that since folks can and should be banned from posting that you were the one in charge of that. Sorry ’bout that. I’ll get my sea legs going any minute now. HA

Oh, no, you are not “just” a poster – you post wonderful things. So do the others that I’ve been reading. And, I repeat – many thanks to whoever for establishing RS!

We need to close about half the agencies in the Federal Government, starting with the EPA and the Department of Indoctrination.

I got a big smile when I got to “close about half” – see how this maps to my first recommendation for how to fix the government (as seen in a business parody).

written by Clarice Feldman, “Rime of the Ancient Democrat.” Toward the end, she discusses how the dems are slamming Perry and adds a hilarious new “slam” written by a loon at the end of the column. The new slam could very well have been written by a Paulie. In the comments section, I believe I spotted a couple more Paulie freaks. The desperation of all of these people is so obvious. It appears to me that if they had two brain cells, they would sooner or later figure out that their approach and style of “debate” is so off-putting.
