Things coming to a head with Democrats going off a cliff?
Via the Hill This guy would make one sexy presidential candidate. Read some of the comments by liberals at the bottom of the article. They go into an angry tizzy. Bank on the congressional Democrats doing the same. Also, more of this please. Per NRO and ABC News, Michael Acuri (D-NY) is inclined to switch his previous yes vote on the House bill to a | Read More »
Health care end game strategy
H/T Vassar Bushmills I think this is the article Vassar was alluding to in his earlier post. He’s right. Newt Gingrich outlines everything perfectly. Another imporant part of the article gives a glimpse into how this is going to play out in the Senate if Pelosi can get a House bill through. On a side note before I get into all the gory details, it | Read More »
Kill the bill. Don’t let it pass GOP just so you can get majorities in Congress.
Letting this bill pass via reconciliation without offering up unlimited amendments, insisting they be read and forcing Democrats to take hard votes, Byrd Rule points of order, quorum call shenanigans etc., will be seen as giving tacit approval to let the bill through. It looks like the GOP is playing this one real close to the vest. I want them to drag this out until | Read More »
Obama to declare war on the Republic tomorrow. It’s on
Bring it and watch what happens Mr. President. Pelosi still doesn’t have the votes. No slim down healthcare bill. Just putting in 4 GOP ideas. Structure and costs are still all there. He’ll try to claim that he is rightful in pursuing reconciliation because it will reduce the deficit and Bush did it for the tax cuts.
Confirmed: With Obama, Pelosi, and Reid. It doesn’t matter what the American people tell them. They want their Healthcare trophy!
I have had an inkling this might be the case with the entire Obamacare issue. Parker Griffith, a Democratic House Congressmen turned GOP from Alabama states flatly that Pelosi, Reid, or Obama don’t care about losing their majorities or leadership posts. They simply want something that has eluded the liberal/progressive movement like the road runner. A government takeover of health care and entrenching socialism in | Read More »
(Updated) Your reconciliation primer…pass it along to everyone you know so they know the rules.
The GOP proved that by being informed with facts and prepared, the Democrats had no answer. An informed public will do the same. The information below is of course is all subject to Nancy Pelosi being able to climb the equivalent of Mount Everest and get Democratic congressmen to commit political suicide. Earlier today I thought John Kyl may have been misunderstanding Senate rules. It seems as | Read More »
Jenga!! Conrad says reconciliation can’t be used for Obamacare
Via Hot Air Conrad lays it out perfectly. Reconciliation can only be used for budgetary items. All of the other portions such as the delivery systems and reform language would get killed by the Byrd Rule. The money would have no where to go. Hypothetically (I use this term because I believe the GOP will delay this thing until the mid-terms by having unlimited amendments | Read More »
John Kyl misunderstood? Says offering up amendments in reconciliation process would be ineffective
There seems to be some confusion in regards to the reconciliation process. John Kyle says that offering up amendments would be ineffective because there wouldn’t be time to debate the amendments given there are only 20 hours to debate the bill. The problem with Kyl’s stance is that the amendments won’t need to be debated. The GOP can insist that every amendment be read on the floor. | Read More »
Clueless? Mitch McConnell could be trying to get lucky again
Apparently Mitch McConnell says that he and his members in the Senate will attend the so called bi-partisan summit this Thursday. It seems like he is heeding Newt Gingrich’s standpoint given in his CPAC address. Gingrich is of the position that the GOP should put pressure on Obama but work with Democrats as well. He quotes Reagan’s “Trust, but verify” approach. Newt, how many times | Read More »
Obama/Pelosi/Reid reconciliation delusion and posturing is starting to go beyond ridiculous levels
H/T Hot Air President Obama is really sounding bi-partisan about the meeting with GOP leaders coming up. He sounds so bi-partisan, he is threatening using the reconciliation card to make the GOP cave to the Democratic Party, but not the people’s, will. Now I am having a hard time understanding Harry Reid. He thinks they’ll be able to get the reconciliation process through with creating a relatively | Read More »
The Amend-o-rama marathon strategy
H/T The Foundry blog at the Heritage Foundation Updating on my last post, this is why all this bluster from the Democrats about reconciliation is to appease their base. This doesn’t have a chance of surviving the Senate. The Democrats cannot stop the GOP from offering up infinite amendments to the Obamacare cramdown preventing a final vote on the overall bill. I quote the last paragraph in | Read More »
Democrat Waterloo and going to war. Harry Reid supporting reconciliation for public option.
Harry Reid just made my day. In a not so surprising development, Harry Reid has decided to damn the consequences by going ahead and pushing for the public option through reconciliation. It looks like Obamacare is going to die with some major fireworks. Rather than admitting defeat and moving on to the most important issue which is jobs, Obama/Pelosi/Reid have decided to go the cramdown route regardless of | Read More »
Reconciliation kamakaze or head fake??
There have been multiple reports of the Democratic leadership in Congress pushing Obamacare through the Senate via reconciliation. This has been happening in the wake of Scott Brown turning Obamacare upside down with his win in Massachusetts. Brian Darling’s excellent post laid out the procedure and precedent for this absurdly defiant action that the Democrats are considering. Can they do it? Well, they can try | Read More »
Devore surges. Within 5 of Boxer with the latest polling out of Rasmussen.
47-42 Who said a conservative can’t win in California. Fiorina and Campbell are up 4. Devore is competitive now and has a shot at this thing. Donate to Devore’s campaign here. In light of this new polling information, DeVore is definitely worth a money bomb.
Pence reconsidering Senate run after Bayh retirement news broke this morning
According to Politico, Mike Pence is reconsidering his decision to run for Evan Bayh’s Senate seat in Indiana. If Pence jumps in, this will make for a very interesting GOP primary with Dan Coats in the race. Brad Ellsworth is the likely Democrat nominee to challenge for Bayh’s seat. If I were Pence, I would probably stick to my original decision. He has a chance | Read More »
Whoa. Obama summit a public distraction “legislative trick” to pass Obamacare via reconciliation says…an aide to Nancy Pelosi.
That certainly seems to be the case with this Washington Times article. Seems like an aide of Nancy Pelosi is admitting to this strategy. Personally, I hope beyond all else that the Dems go the reconciliation route. The GOP will be able to tie up the Senate right up to the November elections with endless amendments, parliamentary procedure and would swiss cheese the bill so | Read More »
The MSM starts to try to goad the GOP into Obama’s summit trap
Based on this article from Time that was broadcast from Yahoo, it looks as if the MSM is starting to do its part to pull Obama out of the dumps by scoring a big healthcare legislation victory. Their line of attack is using an ABC News/Washington Compost poll that shows Barack Obama’s approval rating at over 50% (snark) and that 56% of independents think that | Read More »
Confirmed: House GOP will not meet with Obama unless health care starts over from square one.
H/T Hot Air Best news I’ve seen today. Obama’s stunt has been called out. Earlier, I had hoped this would happen. It is going to be interesting what the White House is going to do now. Oh to be a fly on the wall in the White House Strategy room. Much profanity and GOP name calling I would presume.
Boehner and McConnell’s “Start Over” non-noegotiable kill shot
As you are probably aware, yesterday during the Super Bowl pre-game, President Obama is wanting televised bi-partisan meetings on Obamacare. Of course, he and the Democrats are resorting now to last measure desperate political traps and stunts to stave off the inevitable which is the death to President Obama’s signature issue. Such desperation takes ship in things like doing a 60 Minute interview with Katie | Read More »
Vote counting done. Bill Brady wins GOP governor primary pending Dillard decision to pursue recount.
406 votes. Unbelievable. The GOP has to be happy with Pat Quinn winning his primary with a 25% job approval. This shapes up to be a very interesting election in Illinois with a downstate conservative GOP candidate facing off against a liberal representing the Chicago political machine. The big winner in this may be Mark Kirk because if Dillard concedes, Brady figures to haul in | Read More »
