One of our regular diarists, Marcus Traianus, has a very nice metaphorical post this morning about the reaction to Hezbollah/Hamas rocket attacks on the U.S. from across the Mexican border.
This caught my eye and I circulated it inside the “contributors” circle, because the metaphor is good - but added that a neglected piece of news is that such an attack is much more plausible (though still of course unlikely) across the other border - from Canada…. more specifically, from the province of Québec.
You don’t hear much about it in the press, but if you go to Montréal (less than 90 minutes drive from where I sit) you just can’t miss how thoroughly Islamic radicalism has penetrated into that city. Back during the summer-2006 Lebanon war, massive pro-Hezbollah demonstrations - in the tens of thousands, right down to plenty of Hezbollah flags and the usual inflammatory signage - surged through the streets.
Now with the Gaza fighting going on, they’re at it again:
“The Jews are our dogs”: The enthusiastic chant on the streets of Montreal, along with cries of “Hezbollah! Nasrallah!”
You don’t have to go to the Middle East to see the jihad up-close-and-personal. It’s festering in a major North American city that sits less than 50 miles from the U.S. border.
The lobbing of rockets into Plattsburgh, New York and St. Albans, Vermont doesn’t seem entirely far-fetched….
