Timothy Geithner, Obama’s pick for Treasury Secretary somehow managed to forget to pay $26,000 in taxes, but that did nothing to diminish President-elect Obama’s support for the man:
“He’s dedicated his career to our country and served with honor, intelligence and distinction,” incoming White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said. “That service should not be tarnished by honest mistakes, which, upon learning of them, he quickly addressed.”
I tend to agree. After all, what is the prospective head of the U.S. Treasury expected to know about things like taxes?
Meanwhile, via Glenn Reynolds, Jim Treacher has the Quote of the Day:
“A plumber owed $1,000 in taxes that he didn’t even know about… …and it was headline news!”
