Joe - you’re my Congressman, and you better cowboy up and live by what you campaigned on, or so help me, I will ‘make you famous’.
As we all know, 85 GOP Congressmen voted with the Democrats to pass HR 1586, the unconstitutional Bill of Attainder that singles out AIG contractors for Democrat scapegoating (the now-famous $165 million in bonuses). It was an unprincipled and cowardly play by the 85 to provide cover for the Democrats in their relentless campaign to destroy, then take over, the US economy. While I’m on the subject, Eric Cantor, I got some grits you can kiss too.
I was disappointed, but I was not going to address this until my congressman, Congressman Joe Barton, this morning went on our local radio station WBAP with conservative talk show host Mark Davis (an occasional Limbaugh guest host). In the following, I characterize my impression of what he said, as there’s not a transcript available.
He said on the radio show that the volume and direction of contacts his offices received led him to believe that his constituents wanted him to vote YES on this. He said that most votes boil down to an easy choice in terms of conservative principles, but this case did not “rise to that level” [which is total dog-cookies, by the way]. That being the case, he was inclined to go with the expressed will of the people.
The backlash in TX against the GOP congressmen that voted YES on that bill has been notable. Oh really? Shocked, shocked, I am! To tell the truth, it never occurred to me to call Barton’s office. He’s been a reliable friend to conservatives for years now, and I just assumed he would vote the obvious conservative way on this one. You know, like with the Constitutional ban on Bills of Attainder.
Not anymore, pal. I’ll be calling your office now on any and all upcoming matters. And if you ever wuss out again like you did on this one, you can read all about it - right here.
