End of “Farm Invasions” in Zimbabwe?

This is an interesting turn of events. Let’s hope that Mr. Tsvangirai can make this stick – brave man.

Harare — PRIME Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has ordered police to arrest people spearheading the new wave of farm invasions, saying land grabbing was retrogressive to national development.

Addressing a consultative stakeholders’ forum on Friday, Tsvangirai said the invasions were impacting negatively on agricultural production and the economy in general.

Over 100 white-owned farms have been invaded in the past month alone despite the signing of the Global Political Agreement (GPA) last year and formation of the inclusive government last month.

Tsvangirai said he had tasked the co-Ministers of Home Affairs Giles Mutsekwa and Kembo Mohadi to ensure that all crimes committed on the farms were dealt with.

“Indeed, this government is aware that most of the ongoing disruptions of agricultural production, which are being done in the name of land reform process, are actually acts of theft using fraudulent letters,” Tsvangirai said.

“Those continuing to undertake these activities will be arrested and face justice in the courts.”

Tsvangirai’s directive to arrest farm invaders comes a week after members of the Commercial Farmers’ Union (CFU) pleaded with him to intervene.

I AM OLBERMANN

Think it to the tune of Ironman, natch.

Hat Tip to Dan Cooper, the bright new star on twitter today is ….

You guessed it, “Keith Olbermann

Ha! Winning tweet so far?

@iAMolbermann: @mmaetighe you doubt my veracity? Have you no sense of decency, madam? At long last, have you no sense of shame? (the “+” is new. u like?)

And if you don’t get the joke, go here.

Wagoner out at GM.

Just to get into the spirit of the thing, I had somebody translate my post on the subject into something perhaps a bit more fitting for the mood.

I’ll raise Mark Steyn’s offer to two bucks, even.

It’s only worth twenty-seven cents to me personally because I don’t need confirmation: there’s simply no way that anybody could be as obsessed over Sarah Palin as Andrew Sullivan is unless he was carrying around a raging case of closeted heterosexuality.

Up to and including wearing the moose head.

Times Square – Before and During “Earth Hour”

Heh.

Amazing how things can *not* change over time, huh?

Having seen the Yes, Prime Ministerclip found here I went looking for some more. This one here is biting (and still relevant), on a variety of levels:

…and it’s just as well that the embedding is disabled on this one, because the last line is simultaneously perfect and possibly distressing to those of delicate sensibilities.

The thing is, FrankJ’s not exactly joking.

Sort of. When he writes things like today’s quote of the day

That’s not to say I’m against there one day there being a one-world government and the elimination of borders. It’s just it has to happen by America conquering all other countries.

…he’s not actually seriously suggesting that we should go out and conquer the world. What he is seriously suggesting is that having a one-world government on any terms besides that of the USA’s is a bad idea. Which I happen to agree with, wholeheartedly.

Imagine if Sarah Palin had made such a gaffe

Imagine if Sarah Palin had visited the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe and asked who painted the famous image! The left, even the most virulent secular humanists among them, would have howled from television screens, computer monitors and newspapers, denouncing her for being an ignorant redneck from a hick town in a flyover state who isn’t qualified to be dog catcher.

Hillary Clinton does it, however, and the silence from the left is deafening.

A very flattering Birthday Present / “Earth Hour” response…

…from RS Constant Reader mailloux:

…or more accurately, his kids:

a-light-bright-birthday-001

…in reference to this post about a counter of the meaningless gesture of sitting in the dark for an hour today to show your opposition to global warming. As it is my birthday*, mailloux’ children made me a cake out of Lite Brites… which, as you can see, is a very cool thing to do. I’m flattered immensely: I especially want to thank his kids for doing this. Even if they love playing with Lite-Brites anyway.

*We’ve got something planned for the cake picture, btw. Nothing insanely fancy, but hopefully cool.
