The toughest job in America…

may just be defending the New York Times. Clark Hoyt is their “Public Editor” and he gets to try. I’m guessing he drinks a lot.

In his column today he again “defends” the NYT coverage of ACORN and includes a bunch of comments from readers who responded to his first attempt at a defense. There are two things of note in this column. The first, from reading the readers comments, is to note that folks on the left are T.O.T.A.L.L.Y out of touch with anything even remotely resembling reality. The second is that Hoyt may have inadvertently printed The Gray Lady’s new masthead. Recall the current on is “All The News That’s Fit To Print”. New masthead from a reader:

…from Leigh Allen of San Francisco, who said she relies on The Times to keep her informed: “I often don’t hear about the latest conflict until I read a Facebook rant from an old high school friend or talk on the phone with my mother (both in conservative Orange County, Calif.). It’s embarrassing not to be able to respond with facts when I hadn’t even heard about the issue.” Michele Cusack of Novato, Calif., said that when someone asked if she had heard the latest about Acorn, “I had to answer ‘no’ because I get all my news from The New York Times.”

That’s gotta smart.
