Oh, So Now He Bleeping Tells Us!

I confess to a certain ambivalence on the subject of pimp-slapping hubris-ridden senators. The Lindsay Grahams, the Sheldon Whitehouses, these guys remind me of clown-show lackeys; not gentleman legislators. Thus I’m left bemused by Ben Nelson’s latest efforts at bailing aboard the Andrea Dora. Deep philosophical insight follows below…

“I think it was a mistake to take health care on as opposed to continuing to spend the time on the economy,” he said

Ya’ know, Nellie Old Bean, there were a couple of guys you could have briefed in on this fundamental insight a few weeks ago. But Senator Has-Ben wasn’t through ponderously intellectualizing the patendly obvious.

“I would have preferred not to be dealing with health care in the midst of everything else, and I think working on the economy would have been a wiser move,” he said.

Oh, and he has profound insights on the opposition this collossal step towards Cuban Healthcare has encountered in the unwashed public. It makes me really proud not to be one of The Educated People like Ben Nelson or David Brooks.

“In this case, it was so public for so long, with all the anger and all the town hall meetings and all the coverage that this kept getting, that’s why I think everybody’s felt rushed, because they set a number of different deadlines and didn’t meet them. I think it was unwise in retrospect,” he said.

That’s like, totally awesome or something. Now Senator Nelson can go outside and stick his tongue on the nearest metal flagpole. It’s better than what the man truly deserves.
