Just Another Example of Subtle Media Bias

By Adam C

In an "news" article making the argument that Obama is not a liberal, WaPo reporter Alec MacGillis has a perfect portrayal of subtle media bias.

Like Clinton, he favors expanding the government's role in delivering health care, and would pay for that by ending President Bush's tax cuts for the rich. He would go a step further than Clinton by lifting the limit on income taxed for Social Security, now $100,000, to set that program on firm footing.

He strongly supports abortion rights and spoke out against a Supreme Court ruling last year that upheld a ban on the procedure that some call "partial-birth" abortion.

So Bush's tax cuts which effected every tax paying America are "for the rich" without any scare quotes or a modifier "some call" but partial-birth abortion is qualified in both ways. It's not a big deal, but this is the type of pervasive media bias that does still exist. And until newsrooms hire editors across the political spectrum, it will continue....

endorsed by the activist group MoveOn.org.

The author also refuses to call MoveOn.org "radical" or "liberal" or "leftist." If this were a conservative group it would have some qualifier besides "activist." Of course, this all ignores the fact that the whole article tries to make Obama into some kind of moderate without noting any policy or issue where he is not solidly on the left.
