My problem with Barnett's post is that he is not in the least bit interested in line drawing when it comes to torture. Indeed, he forthrightly admits that the "coercive interrogation techniques" he supports amount to a compromising of our morals as a country. But unlike Barnett, I don't believe in situational ethics. If an action is immoral, it is immoral, regardless of the circumstances in which it takes place. If that is a "politically untenable" position, then so be it.
