Mel Martinez is a Nice Man

By Ben Domenech

Get used to saying RNC Chairman Mel Martinez.

Because we need a party mechanism run with the speed and efficiency of the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Mel Martinez is a Nice Man

Hey, he's not the best choice, but at least he's Hispanic!!!!

How about the opposite of Affirmative Action, and yet a good pick, Michael Steele. It was a no-brainer. Ah yes, it's fun to be part of the Stupid Party™

Stupid Party indeed. by OldLineGOP

Let's just make Lincoln Chafee the RNC Chair. He's out of a job, so at least he can devote 100% of his time to ruining the party, instead of just 50%.

Ben, I hope you're being sarcastic when you say. "Because we need a party mechanism run with the speed and efficiency of the Department of Housing and Urban Development." Government is the definition of inefficiency. And yes, Martinez is a "nice man." But who would you rather have as RNC Chair, a "nice man" (Martinez), or a shrewd master of policy, who has won a nationalized election, knows how to recruit candidates, knows how to raise funds, and knows how to enforce party discipline (Newt)?

WHAT A GARBAGE PICK! by RedHotandinBlue

Unreal!!

Why dont they just move Elizabeth Dole over to the RNC Chair so we can make nice with everyone.

Is the GOP establishment stupid. It obviously understands how upset we are with the leadership because it is:
1)Backing Boehner (who I think gets more of a bad rap than he deserves), and Blunt (pure pork) over Pence and Shadegg.
2)Backing Kay Bailey Hutchinson over Jeff "The Brick Wall Of Conservatism In The Senate" Sessions.
And now.....
3)Backing Mel Martinez, an amnesty supporter who has no experience with national elections and no experience running a party organization over Newt (Former Speaker/Contract with America/ '94 elections), Steele (MD state GOP Chair), Toomey (Runs the Club for Growth), or any number of more qualified candidates.
Maybe it's time to leave the Stupid Party, because they just don't get it.
Just Say No To Amnesty: http://www.fairus.org

Hopefully things will be better when I wake up. When I read that Michael Steele was interested in the RNC Chair, I thought to myself; Why was that man allowed to utter that that last word "interested" WITHOUT being hired? Then a couple of days pass by and I'm wondering what the hell is going on. The reason Steele was such an excruciating loss in his Senate race is because he would have been such a great conservative bridge to the black electorate. For SIX years. Mr. Bush had the opportunity to put that man front and center in the RNC and he has blown it again. I think I'll borrow one of those Bush days-to-go counters from the liberals because I've had it with this guy.

The longer we dwell on our misfortunes the greater is their power to harm us - Voltaire

If this trainwreck happens, say hello to President Clinton and Democratic congresses as far as the eye can see.

Specter, McCain, Graham and Hagel in the Senate.

Boehner & Blunt run the House.

Bush practice bipartisanship.

And the rest of my life watching Republicans in the minority. And deservedly so.

Salt must be sown into the ground. This has the president's fignerprints all over it; I once would have been surprised.

in determining the leadership in Bush's Republican Party.

Fingerprints? Hah! by mikewas

I see the whole hand up there. And when Mel talks, I can see George's lips move.

Because that's what happens with puppets.

Your goodness, docj, had nothing to do with it.

And, with this incarnation of the Republican Party I think WC Fields is an appropriate source to quote.

With regards to your tagline, the opposite of "progress" is...making Mel Martinez RNC Chair.

I understood the joke. by OldLineGOP

I understood the joke. It was a good one. Substitute the "Pro" in "progress" with a "con" to get "congress", which is the opposite of progress. I just decided to use it to voice my displeasure with this stupid decision to create the first ever half-Senator half-RNC Chairman in history. Brilliant move by the same folks who brought us "compassionate conservatism."
Just Say No To Amnesty: http://www.fairus.org

obvious and appropriate. And I fully agree with it, which is why I added the snarky comment, which was not aimed at you.

And unfortunately, the longer I keep my tag line the less funny it becomes...

Unfortunately. But thats okay. We'll turn things around with our new mutant half-senator/half-party chairman hybrid.

Well true, by docj

but "My goodness" was about all I could write and stay within the site's profanity guidelines.

All I can think of is that it's some sort of conspiracy cooked-up by my wife to keep me from sending any more money to the RNC. Yep, that has to be it.

Because that ludicrous explaination easily makes as much sense as thinking Mel is going to head the RNC (part time, of course) because he's just what we need there right now.

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggghhhh!

WHAT!? by EzOnTheEyez

He's going to be RNC Chairman but remain a Senator!? This would be a challenge for the most competant and capable people in the country - of which Mel Martinez I do not number one of them.

What happened to Michael Steele!?

Didn't support Amnesty. by OldLineGOP

Apparently Michael Steele, who already has experience running a state party (the Maryland GOP), which he did an amazing job at, wasn't close enough to "W" to get the job. And by that, I mean he wasn't an open-borders extremist.

Coulda been Liddy Dole. A reward for her great job as head of the NRSC.

Oh, Sen. Chris Dodd served as General Chairman of the DNC back in the '90s, when Donnie Fowler was the National Democratic Chairman, so the arrangement has its precedents.

But clearly this is the President calling one of the people he trusts and asking him to do a lousy job. Uninspired and dumb.

Unless, Castro dies this month and we can get Cuba into the Union by 2007.

bush is an idiot . he cans a guy after the election . if he had done monts earlier the election would be way different. he fractures the repub base by pushing and peddling an illegal alien amnesty bill and goes around saying a stupid line that we mock in my offce , they are just doing the work american won;t do , a big lie that is just insulting, and then mel the guy stupid enough to peddle a amnesty bill for ted kennedy that gives the dems 15-20 millions of voters . bush has been a disaster for this party. i wish he would leave and give cheney is position.

BUSH IS DEAD TO ME by Mayhem

Clearly, this was a choice of ethnicity (because hispanics vote in droves based on party chairmen). I agree completely that it also has to do with his daggum amnesty deal. Bush is obviously showing that he is gonna stick it to the base for the last 2 years. I am about to move to Canada.

Move to Mexico. by mbecker908

You can even give up your US citizenship. It's the ultimate protest.

And by moving to Mexico, if you decide you've made a mistake you can always come back over the border in an undocumented fashion and take advantage of the coming amnesty.

WTF???? by c17wife

I uncover my head only briefly to say that this has got to be one of the DUMBEST moves ever.
Dear Lord, Steele, Santorum, Bueller, ANYONE but this clown.
And fergawdsakes, couldn't they have found someone that could do it full time? No? Because we are in such great shape we don't need full attention given to the task at hand.
The GOP is going to hell in a handbasket. I must go find my sackcloth and ashes to don before I head to Hawaii.
