Allen West For Vice President

Congressman Allen West Colonel R-FL

Congressman Allen West (R-FL)

The more I hear Allen West speak…the more I am convinced he is the kind of patriot we need serving in Washington.

Congressman West is a proud, unapologetic Constitutional Conservative that believes in the principles of limited government, fiscal responsibility & discipline, and personal accountability. His highly-decorated life has been an example of these principles, and he serves now to fight for them within the walls of the US Congress.

Allen West is a black American who, unlike our current President, actually believes in the principles taught by Dr. Martin Luther King. I believe Dr. King would be proud of the man Allen West has become, just as I believe he would be ashamed of the way President Barack Obama has failed to live by any principles.

2008 was an historic year in the United States when the American people elected the first black President. What a shame this first wasn’t a man of character and honor. Congressman Allen West is the type of role model the black community needs. He is an example of what one can become through hard work and personal accountability, rather than giving in to the victim mentality preached by Barack Obama and so many of the so-called ‘black leaders.’

I don’t know who Mitt Romney will choose as his running mate. There are many good men and women that would be outstanding in that role. But I don’t believe he could do much better than having Allen West to stand with him against Barack Obama and Joe Biden.

If you want a quick education on our Constitutional Republic, please watch the following video of Allen West’s 2012 CPAC speech.

For more information on Allen West, please visit his official website.

Here are a few excerpts from the site:

Born and raised in the inner city of Atlanta, in the same neighborhood where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once preached, patriotism is in Congressman West’s blood.

“My father was proud of his own service, and believed that serving your country was the greatest of all honors,” West said. “Both of my parents taught me that it was not necessary to rely on a government handout to achieve my goals. They wanted me to believe in myself and told me that in America, with hard work, all things are possible.”

In November of 2010, Congressman West was honored to be able to continue his oath of service to his country when he was elected to be a Representative in the United States Congress.

“I have traded in my camouflage uniform for a suit,” West said. “But the commitment to protect the people of the United States is still my mission.”

I started a Facebook site for Col. Allen West for VP. On that site you can go sign a petition that will go directly to Romney’s site.It reads: We, the undersigned, strongly urge Governor Mitt Romney to immediately select U.S. Representative Allen West as his Vice Presidential running mate. Please go and like, then sign petition. I have just started this site and could use some help getting the word out. He definitely would add to Romney’s ticket and real conservatives would be thrilled. Thanks.

but I am not sure that he has enough experience to be VP. I think he would make an excellent VP in the future, even President possibly. If he was a Senator, I do not think that it would be that big of an issue.

Still, if Romney taps him for the role I would not be upset or disapointed :) .

He has over 20 years experience in the Military and commanded large groups of soldiers. He managed budgets and made hard choices. Frankly, his resume exceeds that of Obama by far. I had the pleasure of hearing Col. West speak. He is awsome.

West talks a really good game, but his HFA score is 68%. I like him , but Porker John Mica’s voting record is just about the same.

The questions I have are what is the best overall consideration, or summary of considerations for the VP choice. The first one is the person capable of performing the duties of the office of the presidency on short notice.
On Mr. West or any other candidate, assuming the answer is affirmative, which considerations are the most important for aiding in the success of a Republican ticket winning this fall.
I would argue that we are in a pathetic condition as a nation. The very validity of a constitutional and free enterprise nation has not only been questioned but on a decades old losing trend. Entire factions of the American electorate have become the political property of those that are successfully transforming this nation into a European failed state model. For Latin Americans, this includes millions of persons who are not citizens, but for whom every effort is being made to insure that many can vote in our elections.
The long term goal should be to take the many steps necessary to turn the strategic course of this nation back to a constitutional, free enterprise Republic. I argue step one is to break the monopoly of the progressives amongst both the vast majority of African American and Latin American citizens.
For this reason Marco Rubio or perhaps Luis Fortu

Allen West is a role model who continues to lead by example. We learn by copying so West can make a difference with everyone as an inspiration. He is ready to serve. We need a constitutional conservatives in the VP slot. While that position is a stand by one, it is secnd in line nonetheless.

Having such statute as the VP is a prize as West would be in line for presidency in his own right after Romney’s term was over.
West will mobilize the base and help carry Florida. Blacks will see him and listen. Then they will give him a second look.

Everybody wins with Allen West on the ticket. But , he has rivals in a campaign who donot want a shift to ennumerated limited government.
Then there are Democrats who can not handle Allen West the man West is changing the dominant vew of black politicians. West is a force to support.

Allen West has admitted many times, he is not ready for prime time as President, because of the need for more EXPERIENCE.
He has made a couple of voting blurbs, and has admitted to them with regret, and one or two he defended because of what he believed deep down in his heart, not what others thought.
His heart is so far off from the normal politician, I choose at this time to give him a pass….this is not to mention, he is ever-learning the way Washington works to his advantage and wisdom.
At no time has ever NOT been transparent and honest and communicating with the people!
As a Vice President, he would be an excellent choice as a backup for the President (Romney can certainly use a big dose!) and a President down the road…
Our country would be nothing short of thriving under courageous Allen West’s leadership.
    Tell THAT to Romney!

to have an elected official admit they are not infallable. Congressman West isn’t perfect. No one is. The difference is…he owns it when he is wrong, and makes no excuses.

America should be tired of the excuses!

MLK was a big labor’s spokesperson, very anti-war, anti-interventionist, pro reparations, pro affirmative action (for all minorities not just blacks), pro aggressive demonstration, and his right hand man was Jesse Jackson. And although he wasn’t a black nationalist he was VERY sentimental and apologetic to the cause. Oh, and he said the person he hated most was Barry Goldwater because he represented the same racist policies with a smoother and nicer sounding front.

The man was very much a text book black liberal.

      • kowalski

Best counterpoint in this thread, and true.

    • nkerr

West will not deliver the Black vote. BUT, he might talk some sense into them. His speeches focus on personal responsibility especially in the Black community. When you hear numbers like 14+% black unemployment, 50% for Black youth, 70% of children born out of wedlock. What the black community needs is men and women in leadership positions that speak to the community with solutions instead of looking for handouts or ways to blame others for failure.

He should and would be held up as a man that literally fought his way to success learning discipline in the armed services. He is not afraid of speaking his mind and honestly we could use more of that.

However based on allegations of intimdating a witness during interrogation I think the Obama machine would eat him alive whether justified or not.

that Mitt Romney would choose West as his VP choice? Its nice to dream, but let us get back to reality. Romney is not going to choose anyone who will or has the potential to overshadow him plain and simple. That eliminates people like Alan West and Chris Christie and even Paul Ryan. Dream on, but it ain’t happening!!!

    • http://redpillreport.net/ RedPillReport

Those were some outstanding, valid points you made, davenj1. What fools the rest of us are for hoping Romney will pick a good, moral, charismatic advocate of the Constitutional freedoms we all believe in. Don’t we feel stupid for suggesting it.

      Nope.

      • davenj1

        tha your “hope.”

As much as conservatives would like West…

      1) He would be a lightning-rod for liberals and the press.

Expect SNL to have a “I can see Cuba from my house” type line in a skit. The bottom line is the Romney campaign would have to spend time selling West to moderates. This would take the focus off a failed Obama (even if only for a moment, it is still too long).

      2) Romney’s theme seems to be “competence.”

It looks like Romney is trying to set things up so there is a clear choice between the competent Romney/vp ticket an incompetent Obama/Biden ticket. That’s why we’re seeing so many governors on the short list. They may be boring, but they are all people that have shown–at the state level–that they can govern competently in tough times.

West does not reinforce that theme. In fact, given his short time in office he would undermine that theme.

… for the better part of the primary season.

My two choices are Rubio and West. Now, I have NOTHING against Rubio, but there are several facts that swing my “vote” in favor of West.

    1) Rubio, as a senator, is 1 of 100. He’s slated to be in office until 2016, as part of the “Young Bloods” in the Conservative Movement. I say he can play a MUCH bigger role with a much louder voice in that chamber than he can as a VP.
West, on the other hand, is a congressman, 1 of 435. His voice, while powerful, is drowned out among the crowd.
And, I think, should it happen, losing West’s seat would be less painful than losing Rubio’s.

    2) Rubio is a legislator. And while he can articulate the conservative message, I think West brings “more” to the table:
West, first and foremost, as a lieutenant colonel of the US Army; he is a legislator second.

Romney doesn’t have ANY foreign policy experience – I’m sure he’s well-read on this issues confronting this nation (from abroad), and I am sure he has surrounded himself with experts, but that doesn’t make him one. West, as a VP, would provide for Romney what Cheney provided for Bush. I think that’s a HUGE advantage, especially as West served in the Middle East – smack dab in the belly of the beast.

    3) We cannot ignore the nature of identity politics, and as a black conservative, West can draw a BOLD contrast between himself – his successes, his mindset, his beliefs, his values – and that which Obama peddles to the black community. Will it swing a majority of black votes? Probably not. But it could swing “enough”. And with polls showing enthusiasm WAY down among black voters, that, combined with West’s message resonating with open-minded black voters, could be the difference.

    4) West is absolutely fearless. See his attitude in dealing with the Congressional Black Caucus, the media, his opponent(s), even the Republican leadership at times. Since the role of VP candidate is one of “attack dog”, West would undoubtedly give Team Obama all it could handle, and then some. And wouldn’t THAT be something, given Romney’s luke-warm approach to dealing with the administration’s negative ads and outright lies? And as an added bonus, that kind of red-meat just revs up the base. Which is something that is SORELY needed, I think.

All in all, I truly believe West to be the BEST pick available – more than any name that has been mentioned thus far. Even more than Rubio (much as I love Marco!).

Unfortunately, Romney is likely to pick some milquetoast pick like Portman.

(Quick segway, I think Paul Ryan would be a good pick, too, but as Chairman of the Budget Committee, I think he should stay put and put his knowledge to use in THAT powerful position, rather than take the role of VP).

*sigh* I wish, I pray, Allen West for VP, but sadly, I think it’s a pipe dream.

Still hoping even though it’s looking like it won’t happen…but then again, he’d be the ultimate “surprise” pick… :) ya never know. I think he’s exactly what we need right now.

  • thescotman

that Allen West might be a distraction or might say something controversial during the campaign? I like Allen West, but he says some things that get the liberal’s panties in a wad.

    Who is your second choice?

  • johnconradarens

And, when they do, all we have to do is point to Joe Biden’s BLOATED resume of non-stop political experience, and what a boob he is, and that governmental experience doesn’t patch over incompetent stupidity.

As I recall, Abraham Lincoln only spent a couple years in the House before he was elected president, so, political experience is thoroughly over-rated.

What a fabulous choice Col. West would be!

  • http://nextgenerationvoters.com Bethany

but I think we’ve gone with “safe” choices (excluding Palin) for too long. We need someone like West who won’t be afraid to say the truth. We’ve become too apprehensive to really say the truth in most situations and we need someone like West in higher office who won’t be afraid of being politically correct.

  • westcoastpatriette

Allen West could single-handedly undo the damage Obama has inflicted on race relations since he took office. Agree with every word in this diary.

And, his service in the military makes up for his limited time in public office in terms of qualifying him as VP pick for Romney, IMO.

  • mikeymike143

and he would make a superb vp choice. either west or jim demint is the type of genuine conservative that you need in office.

  • ffc99

Allen West who has a 69% rating from Heritage and a 64% rating from Club for Growth. Heck, he makes RINO’s like Bob Corker and Diane Black look like true conservatives, doesn’t he mikeymike?

    Sarcasm intended.

  • ffc99

I think I’ve also seen you criticize Rob Portman as a potential veep candidate (though I may be wrong). He has a better voting record than Allen West. Rep. West may talk a conservative game, but when in Washington he sure doesn’t vote like one.
