I’m an American, Not a Bump in the Road

In 2003 in the aftermath of the tech bubble bursting, I was laid off from HP.  That was a stressful time, but since the market was recovering, I figured I would be able to find a job.  I looked for a programming job with any company.  Yet since many of those jobs were headed to India, I figured a defense contracting job may provide some security.  I found a small company that provided vehicle tracking for the military.  I interviewed and was soon hired.  I enjoyed being part of a workforce that provided a system that helped to save lives.

In 2011, we find ourselves with a burst real estate bubble due to over-extended mortgage lending forced by congress.  Consumer debt had reached all time highs and in response to new financial overhauls, banks made personal lending almost as difficult as lending for small businesses.  It became a perfect storm of value corrections and money constrictions in the private sector while the government gushed tax dollars into trying to save institutions run by inept and/or unscrupulous individuals.

In some ways, the economy is like farming.  The environment must be created that promotes crop growth and sustained production.  Technologies can be employed that help.  Yet when problems arise, the quick fix can lead to some gains, but often greater problems occur in the future.  If ignorant fixes are allowed to continue, the crop can be lost and vast damage can be done to an otherwise fruitful land.  Obama is a first time farmer who has damaged and continues to damage our farmland.

It has taken years for most the owners of the farm to see that the short-term fixes are causing havoc and not harmony for the crop.  It’s time to fire and replace this inept farmer.  He will fight to convince the owners that he can still fix the farm.  I hope for a candidate farmer who can convince the owners of the truth.  No matter which candidate farmer is chosen, I will support the new farmer.  The more candidates, the better the chances the right farmer candidate will be found.  The current inept farmer just told me that the latest problems are just a bump in the road.

I’m sick of this inept farmer’s poor solutions to our failing crop.  I was just laid off again in April this year.  Yet, I am hopeful as even the least of the resumes submitted for a potential new farmer is better than our current inept farmer.  Whomever is chosen for our candidate farmer, I will support!  I will work to help the owners of the farm understand that and decide to invest in fixing the farm the right way.

I’m an American, and this April, I became a bump in the road according to the current inept farmer.  It’s time for him to go.

I said in an earlier diary that when Barry was running in 2007 and 2008, every time he gave a speech, his numbers went up. Since the roll out of Obamacare, every time he gives a speech his numbers go down. thank the Lord that the only activity that BHO likes to do is give speeches. Romney took this line and ran a devastating ad that doesn’t blatantly reference Romney. His campaign is doing what they need to do. Let Barry strangle himself.

and I’ve been unemployed for 2-1/2 years. Can never go back to that line of work due to injury, but no workman’s comp. No retraining either, can’t afford it.

    My husband is an American

He’s an Army vet, worked 20 years as a correctional officer w/ nothing between him and the inmates except his wits and his small can of mace. He was born a farmer, been working since he was 11. In July 2011, his unemployment benes run out. He’s been unemployed over 99 weeks. His health has been ruined near to the point of death.

By August, we will be homeless and in a tent. At 55 years old. No elec for his breathing machine and breathing treatments. The heat might kill him, if not, the cold will. My husband has never gone more than 4 weeks w/o a job and that was medical. He is depressed to the point of just laying down and dying. His faith in God has been shaken to the core. He feels he has let down his dead father who “taught him better than this”. Thank God we have no kids to support. A vet. A man who lasted 20 years doing a job no one else will hardly touch. Paying our taxes diligently. And this is what he gets?

We feel like bumps in the road already. We’ve been run over and mashed in the wheels of FS that overpaid US and now we have to pay a whopping bill back to them. We’ll never trust Social Services again. There is no dignity here, no dignity left.

Thank you ever so much Mr. Obama. *spitting on the sidewalk* You have truly brought us plenty of change, though none of it left in our pockets. No point in discussing this “hope” deal you promised us, it was a “shadow box” ruse, as well. No hope, no will, no life, only death. Is this what we get for being the ones who paid your taxes all these years?

    Thank you for killing us.

In 2006, I lost my job of 13 years doing tech support in telecommunications. I tried to get another job but at 53, no one gave me the time of day. I started my own business servicing system and was doing Ok until 2008. Last year my income was well under the poverty line. I lost my house, used up my savings, car repossessed, and filed chap 7 last winter. Now I may be out on the street in another month.

    I HOPE this CHANGEs soon!

Please do not give up! I was reminded this morning of something that has helped me through some very dark days. After reading your comment, I had to respond. Use the Golden Key. Whenever you start looking at your bad situation, remember to look instead to God and take your mind away from the issue. The only way God can work for you is if you get out of the way.
Keep your chin up, you want to be around for the big party when Mr. Road Bump gets booted in 2012!

    I hope this helps you!

any one of us could be next. Last night at Bible Study, I heard a line that really inspired me. Maybe it will do the same for you and others like you, but in any event, I’ll be praying for you.

“Do what you can. God will take care of what you can’t.”

through your trails and adversity. It rarely gives hope in the moment to say, “and this too shall pass.” But as with all times and seasons, we look forward with a hope that this nation will be put back on the right path soon.

    I echo David’s words in Psalms 35:10:

All my bones shall say, Lord, who is like unto thee, which deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that spoileth him?

…are the ones that suffer. These stories really put a face on the bad policies that have been forced upon this nation. It’s easy for the news to report that a certain number of homeowners have lost or will soon lose their homes. But each and every one of those numbers has a name and they have a face, and many of them are like our fellow Americans who have shared their stories with us here.

The number of these stories will, I fear, continue to grow. Though there are those of us that are not in this kind of shape today, tomorrow may tell a different story. So for those of us that are still able, I encourage you to help those in need in your community. Volunteer at the local food bank or at your church. We as Americans need to be as generous with our own friends and neighbors as we have been with those that faced disasters in foreign countries.

I say Pay it Forward, as none of us knows when we might be the ones hurting and need a helping hand from someone else. This diary is so right. We are not bumps in the road. We are Americans.

My prayers are with all of you.

and volunteering is that through helping others, you loose yourself and often find the most joy. Thank you chbroussard.
