McCain anti-VAT resolution passes 87-13

The resolution “It is the sense of the Senate that the Value Added Tax is a massive tax increase that will cripple families on fixed income and only further push back America’s economic recovery” passed by a bi-partisan vote of 87-13, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Twelve (12) anti-resolution voters were Dems. and one was a REPUBLICAN: R-OH George Voinovich. Shouldn’t George be replaced?

The Democratic Senators who vote anti-resolutions were Daniel Akaka (H), Jeff Bingaman  (NM), Sherrod Brown (OH), Robert Byrd (W.VA), Ben Cardin (MD), Byron Dorgan (ND), Ted Kaufman (DE), Karl Levin (MI), Jack Reed (RI), Tom Udall (NM), James Webb (VA), and Sheldon White (RI).

Maybe with will help attack on Webb in VA.

’tis just a “sense of the senate” vote. While it could be taken as a shot across the bow, I think it’s more of a flare to help the Obama admin see which way to steer the VAT idea.

    Time will tell.

So he won’t be an issue. I believe right now the race is between Rob Portman who from what I understand is decently conservative, and the secretary of state that is under fire for allowing illegal voter registration duing 2008.

Voinovich was a vast improvement over Ohio’s previous two U.S. Senators, Howard Metzenbaum (D) and John Glenn (D). I’m thankful he made it into the U.S. Senate.

Unfortunately Senator Voinovich has drifted left during his tenure in D.C. So did ex-senator Mike DeWine.

I have only been out here in the Cincinnati area between 1999 – 2004 and then moved back out here in 2007, so I am not fully up on who had these senate seats before. I do know that it kills me that Sherrod Brown is even close to an elective office let alone a senator.
