Mr. Cantor,

Today people have information overload. With all their problems, they can't concentrate long enough to read an entire proposal.

They want things presented to them in a nutshell. I think it important these days to have your message boiled down to one operative word that fits in that nutshell, in your above diary I see that word as <b>"bankruptcy"</b>.

It's a word, unfortunately, that people understand today and are familiar with. It's a word that has meaning and power in the mind of the populace. It's a word that brings to mind all of the horrors of what is happening today. It's a word that when spoken, says that Republicans know what's going on and what to do about the problem and that the Democrats (who won't use that word) haven't a clue and are in denial and making everything worse by digging deeper.

This word "bankruptcy" (in the sense that we want to avoid a national bankruptcy) is the word that we all need to get together on and hammer the Democrats with, in the House and Senate and the White House.

If we use this word over and over and over again, people out there will get the point that the Dems are driving us over the edge of a cliff, and the GOP will get the support that we need to rally and ride into Congress in 2010 with a house majority and a mission to save the US from the Dems reckless trillion dollar spending spree and an embarrassing national bankruptcy.

This is my assessment on the nation's current political landscape.

members of the Redstate family either grovel or quake in the presence of Your Holiness (Your Redness?) would count as "pay". Heck, I know of people who would pay to wield TheBlamstick™ for a day.

If it's really a good idea, maybe somebody could suggest that the leadership direct an earmark our way to cover the moderation cost. After all, I would think that the concept of "all things in moderation" would go over really well in some circles in Washington...

Nest time I am in Richmond?

For what it is worth, I don't want Republicans to continue to be the "Party of 'No'", however. I would like us to be the party of "HELL No".

Let me note a couple of things.

1. In the world of people who have no qualms about being nasty over an issue, I may not be the king, but I'm certainly a Prince.
2. When members of the leadership post here they frequently attract more than their share of nasty, non-issue related comments. Once in a while by me.
3. Said comments (#2) are unfair. Even mine. Life is also unfair.
4. Members of the leadership who post here <I>almost</I> never come back and address even the intelligent, issue related comments (like mine usually are ;-) ).
5. While I don't speak for Redstate, I will note I've gotten some significant feedback to the effect that many in the RS family feel we are being patronized by the leadership and simply used as an outlet for press releases.

I would propose a possible solution to both the Leadership and RS Management, and note that I have no idea if this is even technologically doable, so take it for what it's worth.

Perhaps a "deal" could be struck with the parties to the effect that when a member of the leadership - or any Rep or Senator for that matter - posts something at RS, the Directors will assign a "moderator" with the ability to review all comments and simply remove the ones that are offensive or off-topic. Ideally, all comments to one of those posts would be "held" until reviewed by the moderator and then posted by the mod. If that's not feasible then just delete the offending post. In return, the poster, or their designee (staff member, etc), would agree to visit the post and respond to some - certainly not all - of the comments.

I think this could be a win-win. The leadership gets thoughtful input - and knowing that comments are going to be reviewed and might be responded to - will improve the quality of the comments. On "our" side, the assumption that the site is being patronized will quickly go away.

However, I am *certain* that it can't be due to user error :-)

We are now hearing about the TRILLION dollar deficit. Well that sounds powerful and is a big number, but you actually lose the effect when peoples eyes glaze over. Billion, trillion, quadrillion, just a matter of a couple zeros.

Translate TRILLION dollar deficits for Americans by saying it will cost every man woman and child $XX amount.

I am surprised nobody really learned a lesson from Ross Perot and his simple infomercial with his simple charts and pointer. Know your audience and talk turkey with em.

Is there any particular reason why you avoided the 2 comments that have been posted by people in your district. They surely were "hard" questions, and, expressed much dissapointment, however, why would you address the questions by those that are in no position that could vote for you? Are you taking the easy way out yet again?

on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Also played in Vegas a lot, I think. He was cynical, sarcastic, and funny. As to crossing him with Martha Stewart, I meant from the standpoint of endorsing my own line of household items with my signature snark and witticisms on it.

It'll be a chore, but I'll try to confine my pop culture references to the past 30 years. ;-)
