GOP Vice Presidential Nominee Sarah Palin: A Modern American Mom

Yes, we conservatives have sometimes questioned the decisions of Senator McCain. Yes, we have often grumbled about his candidacy as our nominee.

Today this ends.

In selecting Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his Vice Presidential running mate, Senator McCain has ensured America will make history this November.

And it will be by making Governor Palin the first woman to serve as Vice President of the United States.

Unlike the Democrats’ false stereotypes of our party, Governor Palin is a Republican parent of young children who daily experiences the joys and challenges American families. Governor Palin is modern American mom pursuing her family’s happiness. She lives it. She gets it. And she will be an historic and effective Vice President of the United States.
Her conservative credentials are impeccable: she is pro-life; pro-second amendment; pro-traditional marriage; pro-tax relief; pro-energy; and, yes, she has exposed and smashed government corruption, and opposes earmarks – like the “bridge to nowhere” she refused to accept.

Personally, she is continuing upon her own remarkable road in life. A championship high school basketball player, Sarah eloped with her high school sweetheart; and, today, with her husband Todd, this former PTA member is raising five beautiful children in their loving home. Of course, like other characteristically hearty Alaskans, Governor Palin loves outdoor recreation, including ice hockey, snowmobiles, and fishing and hunting – in fact, in her younger days Governor Palin hunted moose.

This experience will serve her well, as the Leftists have already launched their scurrilous attacks upon her for the sin of serving her country by trying to break the White House’s glass ceiling as a Republican. But fear not. Governor Palin will make a smooth transition from hunting Alaskan moose to hunting liberal old bulls and their misogynistic smears against her.

Thus, today is a day not for concern but celebration, congratulations and commencement: we celebrate the selection of the first GOP woman for the office of Vice President of the United States; we congratulate Senator McCain upon his sagacious decision and Governor Palin’s courageous acceptance; and we commence the battle to elect them both to lead the greatest nation on earth.

I couldn’t be more ecstatic about Palin for VP.

All that excitement is tempered by the need for more domestic oil production.
So I came across this article that helped refresh my memory about the tax raising bill she helped to push through in Alaska, was it so that Alaska could redistribute that oil wealth while at the same time raising the rates enough to discourage exploration and drilling?
The Oil companies were pretty upset about Palin’s plan after all. This article covered both sides of the tax raising on oil companies that was done under Palin.

they own a state and use their proxies to buy half (or more) of a State Legislature. The big AK producers, Conoco-Phillips, Exxon, and BP, have been sitting on trillions of CF or natural gas for thirty years without the slightest intention of moving it to market. She got the Leg to overturn a very favorable, to them, deal with the majors that Murkowski had negotiated and enacted the new tax scheme and a deal with TransCanada that puts the State in with a half billion dollar stake in the enterprise. Oil companies ALWAYS threaten to take their rigs and go home anytime anyone says either tax or royalties, but they’re still here – so far.

I’m not a wholehearted fan of either the tax scheme or the TC gas deal. The tax is based on profits and big producers are very, very good at hiding profits or moving them out of an owner’s jurisdiction. The TC deal is problematic in that they have a bunch of our money, but the only way they can get financing for the whole thirty to fifty billion dollar line is to get gas committments from the Producers who own the leases and don’t want to dump that gas on either the US market or see it go to Canada for oil shale production. There’s a lot of risk that at the end of the day, we’re out of a lot of money, the gas is still in the ground with no way to ship it, and the Producers say, “See ya,” since North Slope production is declining rather steeply. Since Alaska is no longer quite the private playground for them that it has been, the Producers really aren’t so interested in being here any more; they prefer provinces where all it takes is a few strategically placed bribes.

We’re all very excited by this development.

Let’s hope all conservatives and right leaning moderates and independents can enthusiastically get behind the ticket.

You lay out the case for Gov. Palin most clearly – succinctly and right between the eyes.

For all the grief that MAV has caused in the Republican Party, his pick of Sarah Palin wipes the slate clean. This is something Ronald Reagan or George bush would do. Oh boy, am I ready for the Palin/ Biden debate!! HEH

With Palin energizing the base and bringing women, working families, union members, and those interested in energy independence and ethics reform into our party’s big tent, this should be a much better year than 2006. I hope to see more Representatives on your side of the aisle come January.
