So Funny It Could Kill People
According to the HuffPo, (Actually, UK Telegraph says Huffpo said this.) Wanda Sykes killed at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. I’ll agree with that. If you wanted good taste or judgment, you could find either out back. They’re lying dead in the gutter.
This is what she said: “Rush Limbaugh said he hopes this administration fails, so you’re saying, ‘I hope America fails’, you’re, like, ‘I don’t care about people losing their homes, their jobs, our soldiers in Iraq’. He just wants the country to fail. To me, that’s treason.
“He’s not saying anything differently than what Osama bin Laden is saying. You know, you might want to look into this, sir, because I think Rush Limbaugh was the 20th hijacker. But he was just so strung out on OxyContin he missed his flight.”
She then concluded: “Rush Limbaugh, I hope the country fails, I hope his kidneys fail, how about that? He needs a good waterboarding, that’s what he needs.”
She hopes his kidneys fail? Yep, and it doesn’t surprise me. This is what passes for comedy these days. It’s partisan left-wing hate speech. Nobody laughing about Limbaugh’s kidneys going the way of Barack Obama’s March Madness bracket was any more than one-half joking.
The whole comedy thing is a charade. Belloc once described what was happening here more eloquently than Little Old I.
We sit by and watch the Barbarian, we tolerate him; in the long stretches of peace we are not afraid. We are tickled by his irreverence, his comic inversion of our old certitudes and our fixed creeds refreshes us; we laugh. But as we laugh we are watched by large and awful faces from beyond: and on these faces there is no smile.
When Eminem asks us to buy the musical equivalent of an enema, he often throws in “just kidding” lyrics about Dick Cheney popping an aeorta or his prurient desires for Governor Palin on a desk. It’s all funny stuff; the First Amendment at its finest. We all know that nobody REALLY means these things? Don’t we?
There’s no reason to worry about Wanda Sykes, or Eminem, or any of the celebrity talent from Hollyork (HT: Fred Reed). Like minstrel shows and the caricature of Shylock in The Merchant of Venice, this is all just entertainment.
Entertainers are always just kidding when they make fun of Conservatives. We’re just supposed to be good sports and take it on the chin. You know, the same way Jesse Jackson took it when Jimmy “The Greek” Snyder commented about the genetics of black NFL players.
Perhaps; but maybe not. We control who’s newspapers, movies, CDs and DVDs we shell out money for. If we remain docile, pay these people for their “comedy” and just say “Bah” all the time, why wouldn’t a casual observer agree that Wanda Sykes is right?
Once that casual observer agrees with Wanda Sykes, why not take it out hard on the next voice that dissents from the howling liberal mob? Laugh it up, folks. Wanda Sykes is so funny she could kill people.
