The Joys of Teachable Moments (Sarcasm Off)

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department may or may not respond on behalf of young African Americans who find their safety in jeopardy. If they choose not to, it gets harder to blame them after the incident that occurred at Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church. Police Sgt. Matthew Grimes was injured when he intervened to stop a fight that was set up to test whether a white officer would care enough to respond to black-on-black crime.

During the presentation, an altercation broke out in the crowd, and Grimes intervened. The officer was thrown to the ground and drew his Taser, ready to stun one of the people involved, police said. At that point, someone stepped in and told the officer that the incident had been concocted to test the reaction of the officer to the situation, police said. Grimes suffered severe back spasms after the incident and was taken to Methodist Hospital for treatment.

(HT: Channel 6 News, Indianapolis)

The Minister of the church, James Harrington, set up the fight to test the white officer’s reaction. Not only is he obnoxious, but apparently, he doesn’t belief those of the Caucasian Persuasion feel pain the way his kind does.

James Harrington, pastor of the Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church, said he set up the scenario to test a white officer’s reaction to a fight between two black men. Harrington denied that the officer was injured.

This reminds me of a story Fred Reed wrote as a police reporter for the Washington Times. He described the letters he received from white officers who had to police the ghetto. At the time, they were getting hammered for racial profiling every time they attempted to “protect and serve” on a suspected perpetrator.

Fred — After having read your article on 11/20/00 I have to state that YES!! We on the P.G.P.D for the most part are now looking the other way. After almost [deleted] years on the job I find this disheartening but a necessary fact to survive in today’s, what appears to most officers, an ANTI-POLICE environment. We are even being told by some supervisors to keep a low profile so “you’re not next on the front page”! I became a police officer to help people [deleted] years ago in P.G. County . . . but I now share the attitude of most officers, just let them eat each other, we have to survive.

(HT: Fred Reed)

Just let them eat each other. Is that really what our national leaders want? Is that what Barack Obama was trying for when he accused the Cambridge Massachusetts Police of overreaction against Dr. Gates? The cameras may have rolled and President Obama may have indulged in the petty theater of a beer summit with the principals involved, but it takes a little more for people to risk life and limb. It takes a sense that they have a chance of keeping their career intact before a police officer is really going to care if you or I can safely walk down the streets.

Just maybe, that is what took place recently near where I went to college undergrad, in Richmond, Va. It seems a naked man got beaten outside a bar in the Fan neighborhood. A witness shot a video of the assault. The police, thus far, have shown no interest in the proceedings. If the man was stupid enough to go out on the street naked, perhaps Richmond VA’s Finest believe the perpetrators did society a favor. Just let them eat each other. Predators thin the herd.

If the police stop caring, America’s cities become unlivable. We tried that in the 1970′s. We do not want to go back to that again. At least we won’t have to worry about profiling. Nobody takes undue concern in the activities of a moldering corpse.

I knew remarked that the way to resolve Atlanta’s race problems was to issue each black male in ATL a .32 gun and a bottle of Cold Duck on Friday and by Monday there would only be one race in Atlanta. So, the “let them eat each other” attitude isn’t new.

I frankly don’t know why we pay taxes to support people who hate us or why people who hate America stay here. I’ve come to sincerely regret the fact that my ancestors didn’t pick their own cotton.

Southside Richmond VA has been abandoned to the vicissitudes of nature. The place has been going to ruin since Richmond, VA annexed it in 1974. I haven’t seen it up close since about 2008. I almost feel sad at what I would find if I went back there today.

was the fact that I had about come to the place where if I heard my then-wife addressed as “hey, white bitch” one more time somebody was going to have to die. Since I was ALWAYS armed in those days, acting on that feeling would have been all too easy. Downtown Atlanta was only habitable if you were white between 8 and 5 and was completely uninhablitable for whites south of the Holy “Sweet Auburn” Avenue. I had a shop in Underground Atlanta, which was south of “Sweet Auburn” and I’d have rather made the two or three block walk to the bank with out my pants on than without my pistol. I’d have had a good chance of making it alive with no pants, but no chance with no gun.

I sold my pistols and bought a couple of rifles when I left for Alaska and it was twenty years before I owned another handgun; feeling like you have to carry all the time is no fitting way to live.

“It increases my paranoia/like looking in my mirror
          and seeing a po-lice car…”

Now, we get paranoid if we DON’T see one…

cuz Strickland, Zero & the Dems have near bankrupted this state & Ashtabula Couty (NE OH near PA border) can only afford one cop.

FYI residents turned down a 1/2% tax hike that would allow hiring of more cops. Guess that shows you where their priorities are, either that or everyone is now carrying.

Not with a bang, but a whimper.

They spend $1.5T/Year that we don’t have, and can’t even afford to field a decent team of first responders. This is all you need to know about Leftism.

In that same article, Harrington said:

“Their job is to protect and serve, and even though they have families and children, that they don’t put any regard to their safety,” Harrington said. “I don’t think it was dangerous because it was in a controlled environment.”

If they do their job, they’re racial profiling, and blamed. If they don’t do their job, “let them eat each other”, they’re blamed but safe.

Which would you choose since either way, you’re going to blamed?

That’s why we have the police force. he needs a blame toilet. What an odious man. Can he not see what criminal behavior does to our nation’s urban areas?

    http://www.theindychannel.com/video/24471233/

“We first deny any criminal activities as it relates to the actions of Friday evening at the Municipal Gardens. Mt. Vernon did not organize nor participate in this event,” said Vernita Moore, Mt. Vernon trustee. “Rev. Jimmy Harrington acted in his own individual capacity as a member of the community.”

Instead of the “We first deny any criminal activity…” they should have FIRST apologized for the actions of their “pastor”. Sadly, the late Mozel Sander’s former church has now shamed his name. And perverted Dr. King’s message. Both of these fine men would be turning over in their graves.

Being so obviously and pathetically sorry is also never really having to say it.

I live so close to Indianapolis that all the scum of the city drains into my town. Let me guess. This was on the… east side? *scrolls back up* Well, the article doesn’t say, but I’d imagine it was. The east side is a cesspool, believe me. Actually, the entire city’s a cesspool.

And arranged by a pastor, too! He should be ashamed! But I guess he’s not, so I’ll be ashamed for him, even though I don’t live over there or attend his church. It just makes the rest of the city look worse than it already does.

The IPD officer was at a place on Lafayette Rd. This is near Haughville area of Indianapolis and just east of Speedway.
