Spike The Ball – Hard!

When Barack Obama won election as President of The United States, he spent over $100 million on his inaugural bacchanalia. When he negotiated a contentious issue with Senator John Cornyn of Texas, his logical gravamen was “I won, and I will trump you on that!” Now, after shooting Osama Bin Ladin, he has an aversion to spiking the football. He has decided not to release the death photos of OBL in order to avoid inciting Muslim anger. He expounds on his reasoning below.

“It is important to make sure that very graphic photos of somebody who was shot in the head are not floating around as an incitement to additional violence or as a propaganda tool,” said the president. “We don’t trot out this stuff as trophies,” Mr. Obama added. “The fact of the matter is, this is somebody who was deserving of the justice that he received.”

(HT: CBS News)

This, I believe is exactly the wrong approach. Mr. Bin Laden’s gruesome death photo needs to be widely distributed as an object lesson. Let everyone who thought that the You Tube videos of Daniel Pearl’s beheading were the coolest thing since the last Mega-Death concert, see Bin Laden in his final state of repose. Let them become well aware of just how funny in your face homicide truly is.

The so-called Arab Street will detest The United States of America for having great power, and not being an Islamic Theocracy. We could have sat around drinking beers while OBL’s remains were run through a wood-chipper. It wouldn’t have made the Islamic Brotherhood think much less of Lady Liberty than they already do. These people could care less about how well we learned manners at Junior Cotillion

The US position on Bin Laden’s shooting should be that of an epitaph that was written on a grave on The Dodge City, Kansas Boot Hill. “He kept on asking for it until he got it!” Mr. Obama should man up and spike that ball with Presidential authority.

Osama photo; 5 ways to win.

hoosierteacher (Diary) Wednesday, May 4th at 4:50PM EDT (link)

5 things a republican can say to the American people to ensure a win in 2012:

1. I will give you closure. On the day that I take office, the world will see the death photos of the mongrel pig that killed our citizens.

2. On the day that I take office, I will issue an executive order to allow domestic drilling (including ANWAR) and the resumption of building new refineries in the US in order to implode gas prices.

3. I pledge that terrorist attacks against US citizens at home and abroad will be met with swift and massive retaliation against the individuals and leaders responsible, as well as against nations that are complicit.

4. I will allow no tax increases while I am in office. I will also use my veto pen against any increases in spending. I will demand a balanced budget amendment, and a fairer and simpler tax code (either a flat tax or a FAIR Tax). Until our government can live within its means, there will be no more burdens on taxpayers, and no more spending sprees.

5. I will eliminate several wasteful departments and agencies in the federal government that duplicate work that our constitution reserves to the states or to the people. My cabinet will be cut at least in half. One size does not fit all, and governors know best how to provide for their citizens. The days of the federal government confiscating your hard earned dollars to fund wasteful pet projects for congressmen and presidents is at an end.

I’ll bet those 5 simple points, hammered over and over again would not only win big, but pull in people to vote who gave up on elections a long time ago.

I just think we're better than that.

I don’t want to see a picture and it seems a bit much to post them. Conspiracy nuts are going to conspire and concoct theories no matter what proof is actually presented. And while the Arab Street might hate us no matter what we do, it is important that we maintain our own high moral standards and showing pictures of bullet-riddled corpse is a bit much.

The Democrats are the party that says government will make you smarter, taller, richer, and remove the crabgrass on your lawn. The Republicans are the party that says government doesn’t work and then they get elected and prove it.

Like The Last Scene of Scarface

Repair_Man_Jack (Diary) Thursday, May 5th at 8:42AM EDT (link)

We need to show the world just how much of a down-and-outer Osama was at the end. The iconic scene at the end of Scarface where Tony Montana is face-down in his final pile of blow is a better anti-drug commercial than anything the DEA has put out. This needs to be a friends don’t let friends join Islamic Jihad sort of a moment.

Obama Completely Bungled This Win

victrola Wednesday, May 4th at 4:54PM EDT (link)

What should have been a PR coup that lasted months will be probably be a 1-2 week bump tops. I’m amazed he botched this roll out so badly, I can honestly see this entire episode being a net negative for Obama instead of a much-needed boost.

All I can say is “Thank God” the military carried this out despite such an incompetent administration.

I don't get it..

dmacleo Wednesday, May 4th at 4:57PM EDT (link)

after all the american people have been through and suffered over this guy not giving them (except all congress people of course) the ability to see for themselves seems just wrong.
its not bloodlust/conspiracy really, its more reflective for many.

Why do we care about the so called, Arab Street?

mitchsf Wednesday, May 4th at 5:12PM EDT (link)

They are weak and powerless. Everything they have comes from our oil dollars. They hate us because we are everything they want to be. If we remove every issue in contention, they will still hate us for that reason.

Release the pictures. Show them what happens to those who attack America.

Exactly.

Repair_Man_Jack (Diary) Thursday, May 5th at 1:36PM EDT (link)

People do the sort of crap that “The Arab Street” does because we allow them to. That’s what sucks about tolerance. Once you tolerate something, you get lots of it.

New issue for Donald Trump

With the Birther issue resolved, Trump could jump on the lack of Osama photos as his next cause to portray himself as Mr Conservative.

I don't see it as spiking the football

clowngirl (Diary) Wednesday, May 4th at 5:16PM EDT (link)

Not that I have anything against spiking the football, in a moment of high emotion in an important game – I usually enjoy such displays. Heck, I grew up as a Bronco fan Shannon Sharpe was the king of trash talking.

But to my point: in football the other side isn’t trying to kill you. They need to release the photos not as some frivolous “nanny nanny boo boo” but to send two unmistakable messages to Al Quaeda and any and all other enemies 1. Bin Laden is really dead and 2. if you wage war on the United States, you will end up the same way.

That’s not “spiking the football” or reveling in Osama’s death in some unserious way,

As to the point about inspiring violence from Al Quaeda — releasing the photos for purposes of visual verification shouldn’t do that – and seeing proof of the death of their ever elusive leader is likely to me more demoralizing than otherwise.

In other words, I agree. Excellent post,

Show the pictures!

conservative_dan Wednesday, May 4th at 5:20PM EDT (link)

We have the right to see these pictures. We the People are no less important than our SERVANTS in Congress. Transparency, Mr. President! How dare you play Daddy and tell us we can’t take it. Show the pictures of your handy work. Or maybe that’s the reason you don’t want to show them, Mr. Nobel Peace Prize Winner!!!!!!

The entire problem. . .

msctex (Diary) Wednesday, May 4th at 6:36PM EDT (link)

. . .to extend the metaphor, is that our current leadership did not grow up playing ball. If they had, they might know that a spike, like a slam dunk or a slow trot around the bases, serves a purpose. And in war, it is only more true, not less. We are up against Barbarians who want nothing less than to drag all of Western Civilization back to the 16th Century. And our President is actually concerned about hurting their feelings.

Seriously, the switch to an Ipad is killing me! You get too punchy and off it goes before you can complete or correct a sentence.

Anyways, my point was that I can see some arguments for not releasing the pictures, but not based on Obama’s reasoning. Obama has more of an appeasement mentality and takes his position based on fear.

What I think he should have done is ask the advice of the military. If they felt it would endanger troops or future missions, then don’t release it. Then make a statement saying that and give that as the ONLY reason for not releasing them. Double down and state unequivocally that it is not out of fear or concern for offense. But this approach would take guts and courage, two things Obama has precious little of.

Not sure I agree with you on this one, RMJ

lineholder (Diary) Wednesday, May 4th at 11:10PM EDT (link)

Posting the photos would be gratifying in a lot of ways. I’m just not sure that it is the wisest choice to make when it comes to political strategy, and especially not 17 months before the election.

If the terrorists decide they want to seek vengeance, no amount of PC is going to stop them. I agree with you about that.

We’re already getting threats in, even without the photos. Give this admin a few days, and they’ll be spinning this one way or another, “never let a crisis go to waste”, and how we need greater ‘regulation” for the sake of “national security”. (Internet, more pat-downs, etc. etc.)

Put the photos out there, and the odds are that threats will go sky high, which could open the door for a couple of executive orders, maybe even an Internet gag order, designed with the purpose of “fundamentally transforming America” all under the guise of “protecting” us.

Just throwing around ideas and possibilities, that’s all.

That was my first thought as well.

danielhill2008 (Diary) Thursday, May 5th at 1:47PM EDT (link)

I put nothing past this administration, and since they tend to be a little slow on the uptake, they may be kicking themselves right now for wasting the opportunity that all the “threats” from an enraged Muslim world would engender to implement more regulation for our own safety.

For the time being, I think Dems are content

lineholder (Diary) Thursday, May 5th at 2:27PM EDT (link)

to portray Obama in the image of a “hero and healer”, believing that this could sway public opinion. Unfortunately, that’s probably true, and if this is a political ploy, it’s a rather shrewd one, to be quite honest.

Then, after they’ve restored confidence in this “hero and healer”, that’s when they’ll come back with the need to implement new regulations for the sake of “national security”. And given that it’s the “hero and healer”setting this in place….

I just think it might be wiser to stay focused on our own goals as conservatives and put as much emphasis on the issues as we can rather than giving Dems any more opportunity to “control the narrative” than is necessary.

Well..just to make myself feel better...

mjdzfun Thursday, May 5th at 12:20AM EDT (link)

I’m going to believe that the reason the WH changed their minds and decided not to post the pics is because instead of the pics showing a respectful Islamic funeral…they actually depicted something more akin to “Weekend At Bernies”.

Like…”Here’s Bin Laden getting ready to catapult off the deck…”

Since Obama references a football...

It is quite alright for Al Jezeera to broadcast the beheading of Americans on worldwide TV, but we can’t show a death photo of UBL? Not that I want to see it, but it plays into the hands of their elevating him as a prophet and not allowing pictures of him as with Mohammed. I say put the pictures up on the web where they will last forever as a reminder not to pi$$ us off.

And exactly when can we "Spike the Ball"

ihateliberals Thursday, May 5th at 8:56AM EDT (link)

so to speak? Winners celebrate like winners except in the cse if your President is a loser. it is not only time to spike the ball but for dong a victory dance in the end zone. Obama’s Muslim heritage continues to ooze into our daily lives. we are not a Muslim nation we were a free society until Obama came along. Now we are letting Religion tightly control our government which was one of the major concerns by our founding fathers. yet here we are 235+ years later and the Religious leanings of our President are robbing us of our freedoms that we have paid dearly for with our blood over those past 200+ years. how could we let this happen? How could we after the 9/11 event even consider someone with a Muslim name and Muslim heritage to assume the Highest Office and most prestigious jobs in the world? It saddens me that we have come to this.

Obama was supposed the be the President that brings unity yet all he has done to to further alienate the races and to lessen our position in the world. How can anyone in any true love of this country and the values set forth by our founding fathers re-elect such a person or continue to support his destruction of our free society? i say it is not only time to spike the ball but then it is time to win one for the Gipper. To put it in Baseball terms “Throw the bum out”.

And Obama wanted to release Abu Ghraib photos

The feelings of AMERICA and the appearance of strength FAR outweigh the sensitivities of 14th century cavedwellers that worship a pedophile.

If UBL wasn’t a Muslim, why did he get a Muslim burial and why was it the resposibility of our service men and women to soil themselves with the task of doing it?

Obama is no leader, he most certainly is not the one who called the shots on this. What a poser!
