So why would a Republican President, “treat Canada any differently”?

in a deal back in 2007 for Canadian crude. Enbridge had proposed an two additional pipelines on the right of way to its Vancouver area terminal. One was for 400,000 bbls per day of Canadian crude and the other a smaller one for diluent to “water down” heavy crude to enable it to be pumped.

This deal was cancelled in 2008 due Canadian government stalling on the permits. This was pre-Keystone XL.

What a difference a change in administrations makes.

but price per bbl ex-Hardesty is $68.

Compare that to price per bbl of comparable crude FOB ship, Venezuela at $100+ per bbl.

Freight not included.

Don’t ever directly compare price of very heavy crudes like those from Bakersfield, Canada or Venezuela with WTI or Brent. These are a different animal altogether.

Very heavy crudes are economically refined by very complex deep conversion refineries which are rare outside of the U.S. These types of crude are also good for making asphalt.

FYI, Venezuela would have to sell its crude at a much lower price per bbl if selling to China, due freight and difficulty factor in refining.

In one day Obama managed to piss off the Canadians by demonstrating he will prevent the USA from being a reliable trading partner. During the same meeting he chose not to apologize to the Mexican government for Fast and Furious. Then in the photo op with both the Canadian and Mexican leaders Obama attacks the Supreme Court.

Impressive.

Canadians used to charge a 15% difference to foreign customers. NAFTA dissallows the practice. How much this equals in a given year is a funcion of import volume (typically 20% of US Oil Imports in BBL) and market price.

According to this in terms of prices, what the NAFTA agreement does is keeps the Canadians from doing is charging the US a higher price than the Canadians charge *themselves* (and equally applies in the other direction). The *mexicans* OTOH aren’t included in that deal.

I’m not sure that the pipeline does much beyond shifting where in the Americas various countries ship to. With the pipeline, the Canadians ship more to Texas and the Mexicans to California and without, the Canadians ship more to California and the Mexican ship more to Texas. I guess the Venezuelas are worse off it the pipeline is completed, but I’m not sure.

I did a quick search, and could not find what the amount of the discount is, either in dollars, or percentage off world market prices, when the US purchases Canadian oil as opposed to purchasing oil on the world market. In other words, how much cheaper is it to purchase Canadian oil as opposed to purchasing oil on the world market?

…own Teh One. The environmental radicals are purposely trying to drive up the cost of energy, all energy, in this country and if successful the results will be devastating as energy is a basic input to everything.

I work in logistics for a major retailer and we operate our own private fleet and our deselect fuel costs are rising rapidly. And of course we have to pass those osts on to our customers in higher prices.

It’s disgusting that the Obama and his radical environmental supporters, all wealthy elitists, care so little about the people who will be most impacted by his hostile energy policies.

The GOP needs to open up this line of attack. If Obama really cared about the little guy he wouldn’t be trying to jack up energy costs. How many little guys will lose their jobs as manufacturers leave? How many little guys will have to forgo a modest vacation because their electric bills have necessarily skyrocketed? How much suffering will this damn communist cause before people wake the heck up and run him and his gang of socialists out of town?
