Les Miserables II

When The Going Gets Stupid, The Obamas Double Down

It's Just Brutal on $450K Per Year

“Once I was in the state legislature, I was teaching, I was practicing law, I’d be traveling,” he said. “And we didn’t have the luxury for her not to work….”

(HT:CNSnews)

OK. So Hillary Rosen inserts foot in mouth up to knee and requires immediate medical evacuation as far away from a live microphone as possible. That’s OK, we get it. She, like Huey “The Kingfish” Biden, is entitled to her rhetorical flourishes. But what I’m missing here is why Barack Obama would also be that dumb. It’s like raising with a poker hand full of 3’s, 7’s and 9’s.

The combined income of the Obama’s (when they felt compelled to have Michelle keep working) was $460K. Now granted his only chipped in about 1/3 of that total, but still….I can’t imagine being compelled to do anything if I were making $150K. I think I could handle the freaking utility bills.

That the Obamas were unable to scrimp by on $150K is pathetic. He should wipe the self-righteous smug off his mug and feel ashamed. The man has totally showed his butt in public and should no longer be considered a serious adult.

And the pathetic Les Miserables Act is nothing the Obamas haven’t trotted out before. While campaigning on behalf of her husband in 2008, Mrs. Obama uncorked the following soliloquy to lament all the terrible law school debt she and Barack had incurred from Harvard and Princeton.

“The salaries don’t keep up with the cost of paying off the debt, so you’re in your 40s, still paying off your debt at a time when you have to save for your kids,” she says. “Barack and I were in that position,” she continues. “The only reason we’re not in that position is that Barack wrote two best-selling books…”

National Review

As Patterico so eloquently put it, “Don’t cry for me, Argentina.” If you just can’t get by on less than $400K/Year, you have no clue what it feels like to be an average American. You don’t. To hear the Obamas empathize with how tough it is makes me want to regurgitate my lunch.

The Romneys certainly live a similar lifestyle and enjoy its comforts, but I’ve never heard either one of them mope and whine about the unforgiving burdens of having gone to Harvard. And as for Barack complaining about the travel, the teaching and the hectic schedule that he got paid THREE TIMES THE MEDIAN US WAGE to maintain….It’s called a job, Mr. President – its spelled J-O-B. I’d suggest there are about 88 million members of the working age cohort who would be overjoyed to bear those burdens for you if you ever felt like hanging it up and just laying on a beach in Hawai’i.

For these pathetic, leech-like slugs of the American upper caste to send one of their K-Street hacks out to denigrate stay-at-home mothers is an obscenity. One that America needs to condignly punish at the voting booth this November.

…. of these statements is that it was EXTREMELY IMPORTANT that the Obama’s be firmly ensconced in the 1%. . Existence outside it was simply unthinkable to them . Nice of them to admit that.

I’ll have you know. (The 0.0005 were the ones who had better make-work jobs).

let’s not forget the 0.003 who HAVE and DO (worn) wear our country’s uniform and ” defend her still today”

I hope this is attacked more on the ‘out of touch’-ness of Obama. So Romney is a super-millionaire and Obama is just a normal millionaire who didn’t always have it so good, I mean ya they were making 6 figures but human beings can’t live on that alone, right?!?

There are plenty of households that make well under 6 figures that have mothers stay at home bc they feel like having a full-time mother is worth not having as much income flowing in.

I hope this quote from Obama sticks around bc it is a good-un.

I mean imagine if Michelle had to raise 2 children on 150k while her husband was a SENATOR. Just thinking of that kind of hardship makes me cry.

        Hard knocks! :)

‘Mary-Anne With the Shaky Hands’ (for the double entendre lyrical content) and ‘Water’, specifically the 1970 Isle of Wight performance (for the mock misogyny of the performance.)

Now, on to the next embarrassment. ;)

These leftist axe-holes are making Ann Romney look like a character from Little House on The Prarie.

Bc she is definitely the most-liked (for now) and is helpful unite the conservatives around the Romney campaign.

One thing I really like ab this week is that taking out Ann Romney will be very difficult for the Democrat machine now. I think it wasn’t a bad strategy to think of a way to discredit her somehow since she has been a very positive force in the campaign up to this point. But they completely blew it and now any future attacks are going to be easily portrayed as ‘here we go again, the left attacking stay at home moms’ which is a perfect forcefield.

We need all the help we can get to fight against the mainstream machine.

Maybe he never whined about having to go to Harvard, but remember this?

This happens every cycle as candidates try to prove who’s more down with the common man, or something. See John “I’m the son of a mill worker” Edwards. The truth is, none of these people have had to worry about money for a long, long time. If someone mentions the kitchen table one more time I think I’m going to toss my cookies.

I think you should update the post and add teh fact what year that was, and using inflation what the equiv wage would be today. $150k back in the 90s is a lot different than $150k today with his devaluation of the dollar factored in.
Just for fun, benchmark it verses gold. That is a good way to get across how much value the dollar has lost since he earned $150k…

Michelle Obama is an admirable working mother. Unlike, I guess, Ann romney, we’re meant to think.

It’s true that michelle Robinson worked hard at the law firm that employed her (Sidley Austin, a top Chicago firm) after she graduated from Harvard Law School (it took her an extra year, for some reason….)

It turned out that they wanted her to do the work of a first year associate…that’s what she was….as she later says, it was hard and boring and kept her cooped up in room for all hours.

Yeah, that’s why they call it work, and why you get the big bucks.

After she met obama, she left the law firm grind and entered on a series of no-show make work jobs culminating in the six figure hospital job which didn’t exist before or after she held it, and which were all set up to funnel money to Obama’s political career. And this makes her a “working mother.”

I don’t think that Ann romney had a chef who shopped for and prepared all meals for the family, a personal trainer, or a nanny, as Michelle Obama did when they lived in a mansion in Chicago. I think the idea was she and Mitt wanted to raise their kids themselves.

It was an unwelcome shock to Michelle Obama when she learned that the First Lady did not receive a salary. What good is a no-show job if you don’t get a six-figure salary? She complained about this early and often in her public appearances. Ultimately she grasped that this made a bad impression, so she dropped it.

Now, I believe Ann Romney was the First Lady of Massachusetts, and as such she had a number of duties, as does Michelle O in her current position. Is it suggested by Hilary Rosen that Michelle Obama is not working in her current position? Michelle thinks she is working hard and often mentions it.

if this was an exercise in the “run it up the flag pole and see if anyone salutes” vein, not only did no one salute, the flag, pole and halyard have been destroyed!. But, since the Dems have declared war on Ann Romney, Michelle Obama just became very fair game.

    To borrow from the musical:

    “Look down, look down
Don’t look ‘em in the eye
    Look down, look down,
    You’re here until you die

    [...]

    Look down, look down,
    You’ll always be a slave
    Look down, look down,
You’re standing in your grave “
