Liberalism = No Guardrails

Shorter Nick Cassavetes: “If you can’t keep it your pants, keep it in the family!”

Removing Society’s Guardrails Will Eventually Lead Us Here

We sit by and watch the barbarian. We tolerate him in the long stretches of peace, we are not afraid. We are tickled by his irreverence; his comic inversion of our old certitudes and our fixed creed refreshes us; we laugh. But as we laugh we are watched by large and awful faces from beyond, and on these faces there are no smiles.

– Hilaire Belloc.

There are days I find myself utterly convinced that Modern Secular Leftism is dedicated to the goal of returning the entire world to a state of primeval barbarism. The cultural and political Left seems to mount an interminable assault on the fundamental traditions and values. This is done through a variety of institutions such as academic research and movie-making. The end point of all of this nihilism can only be our ineffible destruction as a functional society.

We are offered the following logical reasoning by the proud authors of “After-birth abortion: why should the baby live?”

Abortion is largely accepted even for reasons that do not have anything to do with the fetus’ health. By showing that (1) both fetuses and newborns do not have the same moral status as actual persons, (2) the fact that both are potential persons is morally irrelevant and (3) adoption is not always in the best interest of actual people, the authors argue that what we call ‘after-birth abortion’ (killing a newborn) should be permissible in all the cases where abortion is, including cases where the newborn is not disabled.

Fortunately for the Brave New World, post-birth abortion is not the only frontier in which we are all becoming more “realistic”, more attuned to post-modern sensitivities. Nick Casavettes questions the old-fashioned and dumb hang-us people have over incest. If Cersei Lannister could win The Game of Thrones, why be so stupid and old-fashioned? What type of Conservative square would get all upset over a little family bondage every now and then? A critic discusses Cassavetes’ delightful new movie “Yellow”. He describes how charmingly modern and open-minded it all is below.

From young and in love, to drug dealing on the road, to her father’s slow, painful death, from questions of love and incest to her older sister’s descent into insanity, the secret that destroyed Mary’s entire family reveals itself on her journey back home, along with her ultimate responsibility for it. Busby Berkeley, Cirque du Soleil, sideshow freaks and human livestock all make an appearance in this hallucinogenic tale of love and comeuppance.

All of this reminds me of Artistic Genius, Robinson Devor who made a movie entitled “Zoo.” This joyful celebration of moving pictures tells us the story of a man who committed accidental suicide by engorging an Arabian stallion and letting the horse then sodomize him. Nobody should be bothered by this in the least. It was recently a featured documentary at The Sundance Festival. A reviewer describes what a wholesome movie “Zoo” truly is.

Director Robinson Devor remarks that he “Aestheticized the sleaze right out of it”. Devor now says that he considers beastiality to be natural– “It happens, so it’s part of who we are.”

The reviewer of “Zoo” goes on to assure us that he wouldn’t pass judgment on this. He doesn’t have to. RMJ will. The cultural depredations of Modern Secular Leftism will not abate unless the American Right calls these people out for being the detestable freaks that they truly are. The Left and the media no longer care. If it bleeds, it leads, if it feels good just do it. The more secular and divorced from our traditional values we become, the more deracinated and creepy we are as a society. The more deracinated a society becomes, the more it hates the old rules that it no longer comprehends. The Democrats at Charlotte were honest in their booing of God who they personally hate and despise.

So I conclude the following from my musing on this fulsome and scurvy subject matter.

1) Post-birth Abortion is only “extreme” for the nonce. Our nation is poised to reelect a President who saw no problems with protecting the procedure while he served in The Illinois State Legislature. Why would Nancy Pelosi or Charlie Rangel bat an eyelash? Neither of them answers to anywhere near as demanding an electorate as a US President.

2) Destroying the Incest Taboo is a major blow to the coherence and trust of the family. Destroying the coherence and trust of the family is a vital goal of the statist. Why would people who would never consider homosexuality in their own sexual activities lobby so aggressively to normalize all forms of non-traditional marriage? It’s a means the end of delegitimizing the traditional nuclear family.

3) Thus, a vote for a leftwing candidate is not merely a vote for larger government and greater economic confiscation on a conjurer’s whim. A vote for the Modern American Left is the way the average American can reject the normal and boo God right along with delegates at the DNC.

4) We are therefore voting not just to determine the political fate of a mediocre president, but also the moral course of a society that has purposefully wronged itself by tearing out the moral guardrails that protected it from devolution into post-modern barbarism.

“also the moral course of a society” Right because the GOP has a monopoly or family values and the only moral compass. Your whole piece makes no sense and is exactly why the GOP has a hard time capturing new voters. You offer the same old platitudes wrapped in the American flag. Sorry, but that doesn’t address real issues nor solve anything. All it does it make you feel better about yourself.

    • Bill S

Not sure why you’re here. You won’t be missed.

    • streiff

fundamental misconception on your part. This is not a place for Democrats to come and lecture us. You can thank me anytime… oh… wait… you can’t thank me.

    • DerKrieger

Social liberals reject conservatism because they reject standards of behavior, morality, and what were once deemed norms. It’s similar to why many secularists reject religion and even God, they don’t want to be held accountable for what most Americans consider abnormal, immoral behavior.
Don’t like that your behaviors are condemned by polite society? Reject society and belittle conservative, I.e. American, values.

    • jaykali

I think the GOP does actually have a monopoly on God now that it’s been stripped from the Democrat platform…or at least that’s what the Democrats wanted before the party bosses added it back in.

      • jamesm

I can tell you one thing. What this Democratic Party supports is an abomination to God. It is safe to say that God would not vote for Obama.

    • kentucky

Capturing new voters? Just because a naive college student votes Democrat when they are young doesn’t mean they will stay naive forever. The 13th Amendment has not been repealed. You can’t own people.

I have loathed the Left and Leftist ideas and ideals since the 1960s, way before I even began voting or thinking about politics. But I don’t hate all liberals and I do try to understand the roots of modern Leftist thinking.

Modern Leftist thinking is decidedly socialist; nothing new. The difference between Leftist thinking today and Leftist thinking in, say, 1970 is profound, however. In 1970, for example, Republicans and Democrats could and did work together in the House and the Senate. The profound difference came with Roe v. Wade, which made abortion an issue in every presidential election, to one degree or another, and drove a wedge between the two parties.

Activists like Sandra Fluke exist only because of Roe v. Wade.

For me, the chief goal is repeal of Roe v. Wade. But to achieve that goal, I know it is necessary to avoid scaring and offending women voters. Republicans running for office need to take that to heart next time around.

  • fightnright

After secular leftists get the concept of God and His Laws out of the
way, the only accountability will be to the leftists themselves.

Once God’s Commandments are trashed, Big Brother can inculcate the New
Socialist Rules, allowing their own form of religious worship to be imposed. Men, money, power, will be the ultimate authorities (false gods). Thou shalt not kill will make way for expansions of state-sanctioned murder of unborn children as well as healthy but unwanted infants; the elderly, the seriously ill, the physically challenged; this will include the ‘insane’ who still cling to traditional beliefs.

There will be no limits on sexual behaviors that compromise the body’s natural immunities and spread STD’s, this includes free-range promiscuity in both straights and gays. Only the State will be allowed self-defense by firearms. There will be no mothers or fathers to honor, as those terms will refer to obsolete notions. We will no longer need precepts against stealing, as property rights become a thing of the past, and anything held by the individual will have long been taxed out of private ownership. Covet your neighbor’s goods and/or your neighbor’s wife? Not an issue when Big Love and redistribution are the sacred laws of the land.

It’s not so much that leftists want to flee God, as to ~be~ God.

    • Viet71

      Wow. Just wow.

      A complete rant.

      • Bill S

i thought it was dead on target.

        • 10ab

Bill please tell me you are being facetious… This is the type of angry rant that makes me worry about the division in our party not to mention the guys mental health. The sad thing is even with a Romney win this dude won’t be happy!

          • synergist777

Unfortunately, Bill is not being facetious at all; if you are interested in the underpinnings of the Left, please read this article (edit: yay! html links work!)

          • vangoghssister

I think it’s on target too. Out of curiosity, what part of fightnright’s comment did you find to be too far out there, 10ab?

Reading Repair Man Jack’s diary makes me feel sick to my stomach. This truly is where we are headed if we – conservatives – don’t stand up and shout HELL NO! In my lifetime, it started with pregnancy out of wedlock. Once that became accepted as a norm, in waltzed abortion and we got stuck with that as a law. Then came the LGBTQXYZs and even though we’ve managed to get the “marriage” issue struck down nearly everywhere it was put to a vote, it will not stop there. They will continue to try and push this kind of crap until you yank your head out of your nether regions and wonder how the hell we got here. The Left will eventually try their hardest to begin the narrative that incest is okay, that NAMBLA is made up of regular folks just like you and me (okay not me because I’m a woman), but still there’ll be some freak show group that forms wanting it to be legal for women to have sex with young children. This is where I part ways with libertarians and their live and let live philosophy. I’m not assuming you’re a libertarian, I’m just saying that there’s a place I have to draw my own line and this is it.
The fact that we even have to discuss this shows it’s already started.

          • 10ab

Well you and I just have a different take on the world…your world sounds like one God forsaken place…and I still believe in possibilities and the inherent good in people.

          • Bill S

It is not a God-forsaken place. It’s a place that has forsaken God.

You know what’s interesting here, Viet, 10ab, and vgs – I *do* believe that leftists (notice I did not say ‘liberals’ in this case, and certainly not ‘Democrats’) seek to slowly shape culture in the ways that I have noted – and that *they* believe that they will be remaking the world into a better, kinder and more promising place.

I believe in a loving God who – as I have said before here – while never forsaking us, planned for us learn and grow not by force, but through trial, experience, success and error. And like vangoghssister, I don’t believe that any of those leftist paths I’ve mentioned will lead, or ever have led, to human fulfillment, health, individual freedom or security: regarding religious belief as the mental state of the intellectually inferior, promoting a culture of death which devalues the sanctity of life and targets the helpless and inconvenient, normalizing *promiscuous* sexual activity (not just sex outside wedlock), a constant campaign to increasingly limit personal firearm ownership, downplaying the emotional and biological value of traditional male/female nurturing within a legally bonded family with responsibilities and rights, and questioning the bedrock human values of private property and limited government interference.

          • 10ab

Well I can agree with you that I believe in a loving God. This post is certainly more thoughtful and less angry than your original post. So thanks for sharing it.

          • fightnright

I appreciate your comment, 10ab, as I was abashed to return to the thread and see my remarks labeled a rant by a contributor I admire. I did not intend to project an anger I was not at all feeling into my stark conceptualization of a godless left wing future. Perhaps that is why emoticons were devised….

BTW, after several decades of marriage and many grandchildren, the kids would be amused to hear their grandma called a ‘dude’ – and in the context of the discussion, mr. ‘right would declare that Jesus must have performed another miracle =)

          • 10ab

Well in full disclosure dudette, my hubby says I only see the world thru rose colored glasses:)

          • Bill S

No bloody way – I am 100% serious.

Liberalism is, at best, amoral. This story does a very good job in describing precisely the kind of world that fightnright describes – and it’s reality: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-2024284/UK-riots-2011-Liberal-dogma-spawned-generation-brutalised-youths.html

Liberal government policy has contributed significantly to the breakdown of social mores and moral values. The Left has literally thrown God out of their agenda (ie. the Democrat Party platform). The result of taking away the base of morality is no morality. That is the world the Left seeks. And the UK “experiment” shows the result.

          • http://www4.webng.com/rickbull/lostlucky/ rickbull

And I am 100% with you and fightnright, Bill. Anyone who has not seen the progressive decay of our society has his/her head either in the sand or inserted in the most convenient orifice.

          • 10ab

I am not willing to judge all liberals as immoral even if I disagree with their point of view.

          • Bill S

There is a difference between saying “all liberals are immoral” and “liberalism is amoral”. One is a sweeping generalization about a group of people, and another is a statement about an ideology. Not all liberals are strict adherents to their ideology. Barack Obama is as close as it comes. And he is amoral. Note the difference between the words immoral and amoral. I chose the word “amoral” for a reason. The definition “lacking moral sensibility” describes liberals to a T.

          • fightnright

Thanks, Bill. And with far leftists seizing the reigns of the Democrat party, many moderate Dems and liberals are currently being played as useful idiots to achieve radical ends.

          • westcoastpatriette

When do you disagree with their point of view?

          • 10ab

Nice zinger, but I make no apology for my lack of “over zealous” social conservative ideals. To you right of center just isn’t enough…and I don’t concur with the “us vs them” mentality. It is a big tent as I have said many times so it might be best to save your barbs as we should all be working for the same outcome in this election.

          • westcoastpatriette

Well, maybe you could start the ball rolling and save your barbs the next time you feel the urge to scold anyone who expresses concern about the moral decline in America. You are always the first one there to insult them and condescendingly imply that they are being less loving or caring than you are. I really wonder what about you is conservative and why you come here because that is about all I see you do…insult social conservatives.

        • littlehouse18

I’m with Bill on this as well – the comment *is* right on target. If you do a little more research you will see what is happening. Look up Peter Singer for starters. This chair of bioethics at Princeton believes that medical care should be withheld from infants for the first 28 days. He claims they are not human and do not interact with their environment until then. Beyond the utter depravity of this assertion, any parent knows how their baby interacts from the start. But of course Singer apparently has no children, big surprise. He’s got similar ideas for the old and infirm, heck, for people 50 and older. Even older children are not worth full care to him – only those with proven productivity. His curve of worthiness for medical care peaks at age 20. He is an evil man, yet his ideas hold a lot of influence these days among the left.

          • 10ab

Thanks for the info… I have never heard of this.

          • Repair_Man_Jack

The German medical community used to think poison gas was a humane way to dispose of old people who were suffering from dementia. We saw how that worked out once the Ops Research guys got their hands on it.

    • 10ab

You might want to take a nice long rest away from politics for a while.

  • Jonas Parker

The Barbarian hopes — and that is the mark of him,
that he can have his cake and eat it too. He will consume what civilization has
slowly produced after generations of selection and effort, but he will not be
at pains to replace such goods, nor indeed has he a comprehension of the virtue
that has brought them into being. Discipline seems to him irrational, on which
account he is ever marvelling that civilization, should have offended him with
priests and soldiers …. In a word, the Barbarian is discoverable everywhere
in this, that he cannot make: that he can befog and destroy but that he
cannot sustain; and of every Barbarian in the decline or peril of every civilization
    exactly that has been true.

    Hilaire Belloc

is slavery and not letting women vote traditional values? is witch burning traditional values we should keep? Should a father be able to marry their daughters at 3 years old?
” traditional values ” seems to be a cherry picked concept. Should we ban jews like christian nations did before?

You talk about taking god out of moral considerations which god? Ares god of war? Crom? Xenu? oh that’s right even though you cry about freedom to deny women contraceptive you want everyone to follow the judeo christian morals why even have constitution lets get a theocracy going

    • Bill S

Not sure how you wound up slipping through the cracks. No matter – you’re gone now.

    • jamesm

What hell hole did this thing slither out of? Hey Guys and Gals..this is what a deranged leftist sounds like after a night of self worship, video games and self pity

    • Repair_Man_Jack

      >>>>Should a father be able to marry their daughters at 3 years old?
You seem to have forgotten that your boy told us that anyone who insults the prophet will not inherit the future. The Koran seems to imply quite sharply that the prophet was a pedophile.
      >>>>Should we ban jews like christian nations did before?
Oh, so that’s why BHO has time for Beyonce, but not the President of Israel. Thank you for clarify things.
      >>>>oh that’s right even though you cry about freedom to deny women contraceptive
No. We cry about having to buy that idiot her contraceptives every time we pay our health insurance bill. Try reading. Your head seems empty enough to host a floor hockey tournament.

  • agooglyminotaur

Oh, brother. When you start trying to connect any arbitrary “left wing candidate” to incest, murder, and bestiality, you’ve really gone off the rails. This isn’t an accurate or reasonable representation of social liberalism, and such extreme scaremongering undermines your argument. This is the equivalent of when liberals try to tie social or biblical conservatism to slavery and the ownership of women, and both are equally preposterous.

    • streiff

so I’m more than a little unsure of what your game is here. I am naturally curious as to why someone who posts at Huffington Post would grace our pages. I’m concerned that on two diaries now you’ve made the same essential critique, ie that they are silly.

This is not a good site to troll. If you want to participate, feel free to join. But keep in mind this is a conservative site built around a conservative community. We don’t debate our issues with the left.

      • agooglyminotaur

I criticized the left as well as the right in my post above. On the other article, I also published a strong defense of the first amendment and condemnation of violence in Islam, while demanding that change come from within the religion rather than relying on Western appeasement in the hope of assuaging radicalism.

In general, I’m a moderate who believes level-headed discourse is more productive than claiming that every little thing is going to lead to the collapse of civilization. I recognize a slippery slope argument when I see one; Do you consider that trolling?

By the way, you don’t seem to have visited Huffington Post recently (nor have I commented there; the profile you referenced was deleted over a year ago). The op-eds are all liberal-leaning, but the comments section is a mix with many staunchly conservative voices.

        • streiff

how you proceed is entirely up to you. As far as I’m concerned trolling is a lot like how Potter Stewart defined pornography.

          • agooglyminotaur

So I post admitting a liberal media bias in Obama’s favor, criticizing radical Islam and moderate Islam for tolerating it, rejecting liberals who misrepresent Biblical values, and I’m considered “trolling” for suggesting that a vote for a left-wing candidate isn’t a vote for gay sex with horses? Huh. I’ll proceed with caution.
