The Kaine Scorecard..Felons 3,933 Heroes 0

You may have read the post a couple of weeks ago by Soren Dayton(h/t) in regards to military absentee ballots in Virginia. If you did not, read it here. He states:

——————————————————————————-

“The Virginia State Board of Elections argued in their most recent filing that they have no legal obligation to send out military absentee ballots in a timely manner. Restated, the State of Virginia has argued in a federal court filing that they can legally send out absentee ballots to active duty soldiers the day before an election. Restated again, theDemocratic Chairwoman of the Virginia State Board of Election (appointed by the Democratic National Committee Chair Tim Kaine, in his capacity as Virginia Governor) Jean Cunningham just claimed a legal basis for massively raising the barrier to voting for soldiers at war.”

——————————————————————————–

It seems they claim since they are not legally obligated to send out absentee ballots in time to matter, why should they. Getting absentee ballots out on time to our brave men and women, fighting to preserve one of the very rights being denied themselves, would seem to me to be deserving of a more pro-active approach than the “you can’t make me” approach. Maybe the same sort of pro-active approach that DNC Chair and part-time Governor Tim Kaine takes with convicted felons.  Somehow, I guess during those plane trips to and from Democratic fundraisers, he managed to sign off on 3,933 voting rights restoration applications. WTVR 6 in Richmond reports:

——————————————————————————-

“The only way a convicted felon can cast a ballot in Virginia is by having the governor restore his or her voting rights.

According to the Deputy Secretary of the Commonwealth, since 2006 when Tim Kaine became Governor, he’s restored the voting rights of 3,933 convicted felons. That’s more than former Governor Mark Warner (3,486).

And more than Governors Gilmore(238), Allen (460), Wilder (427), Baliles (853), and Robb (1,180) combined.”

——————————————————————————–
It is not my intent to debate voting rights restoration, I really haven’t thought that one through as maybe I should have, but I would love to see that same sort of fight put forth for our soldiers.

If you’re able, help put an end to this nonsense. Help out Bob McDonnell here.

Virginia’s Red Roots Are Showing

First, let me establish that I do not visit Kos. This link was emailed to me by the RPV. Since I am unaware of how much of this information gets out nationally, I thought I would share it with anyone who may be interested.

Virginia (being the rebellious adolescent she was) may have dyed her hair that horrible shade of purplish-blue, but now being a little older and a little wiser is letting that beautiful natural red grow back in.

There is this poll, commissioned in part by The Daily Kos no less, that is very encouraging to us here in Virginia. Some highlights:

Favorable/Unfavorable- McAuliffe 37/40(-3 ), Moran and Deeds both at 35/36(-1), McDonnell 53/33(+20)

Head-to-Head – McDonnell is ahead against all three. McAuliffe 44/34, Moran 42/35, Deeds 45/32.

Chairman Pat Mullins of the Republican Party of Virginia had this to say, “If this is what millions of dollars in negative television ads did to Bob McDonnell, then I encourage the Democrats and their labor union pals to spend even more. Not even the most liberal website on the Internet is able to avoid the truth: Bob McDonnell’s positive campaign is good for Virginia and has momentum.”

I’ll bet Kos wishes they had that money back.

Kaine’s not Able

Is seems Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine is having problems juggling his day job with his hobby as chairman of the DNC. The Richmond Times Dispatch reported on the whining he was doing to the executive committee during a lunch meeting at a downtown Richmond hotel.

I know that whole Governor thing can be a real pain in the neck but didn’t someone say once that an executive should be able to do more than one thing at a time. As far as splitting time between the duties of being Governor and all that fun stuff the libs get to do, The Eyebrow said that the focus of his attention would be on his day job.

Now today in my inbox, I get this gem of a statement from RPV Chairman Pat Mullins.

Chairman Mullins’ statement is as follows:

“I was sorry to hear that Tim Kaine is finding it difficult to manage his time between his political duties as head of the national Democratic Party and his constitutional duties as the Governor of Virginia. The people of Virginia elected him to do the job he campaigned for, which is of particular importance as many Virginians are facing difficult economic troubles.”He simply cannot be a part-time governor when people are looking for full-time solutions. If Tim Kaine thinks his burdens are too great, he should pick one job to do and resign from the other.”

Although, isn’t the Commonwealth of Virginia better off when Kaine is eating lunch with his buds and flying all over the country than we would be if stayed home screwing with us?

Obama at ASU- It wasn’t bad enough, he had to go off script

It’s entirely possible that I’m misunderstanding this guy (DW seems to think so). Therefore I thought I would get some other opinions.

In an effort to clarify something I thought I heard President Obama say in his commencement speech at Arizona State University, I found a couple of different trancripts. Here’s one.

It seems Obama went off script in sevaral places because the transcripts I find are missing quite a few things that I heard in the You Tube video. I noticed this because the particular part I wanted to read was missing in the transcript. The transcript is described “as prepared for delivery” so I assume that is what he walked on stage with and didn’t have his teleprompter.

Now rather than just repeat every idiotic thing he said, I would like to know if anyone else takes this particular comment as a serious slap at our soldiers.

The transcript reads:

Children’s Fund not so Christian anymore.

Christian Children’s Fund board of directors voted this week to change the name of the relief organization to Childfund International.  According to chief executive Anne Lyman Goddard,

”The organization shed its religious teachings more than 30 years ago, so dropping the “Christian” reference might clear up any lingering confusion, Goddard said, as well as open up the ability to raise more money from individuals and corporations. “We have had supporters, donors and staffers from all religions.”

I’m not sure if it’s the misconception that Christianity is being taught to children that frightens them or that only Christians can make donations.

Any Tea party news on the 15th?

This is NBC Nightly News for April 15, 2009

Here now Brian williams.

Brian:    Good evening. It comes but once a year, but for millions of Americans struggling through these harsh economic times, this year maybe tougher than most. It’s tax day in the United States and tonight we have two reports. From Washington, NBC’s Chief White House correspondent Chuck Todd. But first let’s go to Rehema Ellis standing outside a post office here in New York City. Good evening Rehema.

Rehema:   Brian. I’m standing outside of a Manhattan branch of the U.S. Post Office and, as you can see behind me, the crowds are literally wrapped around the corner as people await their chance to perform one their most important of civic duties. Officials inside have told me that they will indeed be keeping many branches, including this one, open until midnight. Brian.

Brian:     Rehema, there have been reports of some sort of demonstration in your area. Do you have any information that would confirm that?

Rehema:  Well Brian, I’m told there is a small group of protesters a couple of blocks over but it seems as though it’s your typical anti-tax group that uses this day every year to promote their far right wing agenda. I haven’t seen many police and the protesters seem to be picking up after themselves, so it can’t be but so well organized. Brian.

Brian:   Thanks Rehema. Now let’s go to Chuck Todd at The White House. Chuck, things pretty quiet there tonight?

Chuck:  On the contrary Brian. The White House is abuzz this evening over the sudden influx of cash pouring into the federal coffers. Sources tell me The President will be staying up well past midnight hoping to have a final tally before calling it a night. On a side note, another undisclosed source tells me The President has a high ranking administrator from the I.R.S. in The White House this evening going over the final touches on the tax returns of top White House staff and advisers. It just shows the kind of detail this President goes to, not leaving anything to chance. Brian.

Brian:   Chuck, any rallies or protests that you’re aware of in Wasington this evening?

Chuck:  Brian as you are well aware, rallies are going on in Washington it seems at all times so it would really have to be something especially large for me to notice. But I will keep my eyes open. Brian, back to you.

Brian:  Chuck Todd in the nations capital. Thanks Chuck. When we return in just a moment on this edition of NBC Nightly News, the sudden flurry of e-mails between Michelle Obama and Carla Bruni. Are the world’s most attractive first ladies best friends forever or is there some tension between them? Also on “Making a Difference” the heroic story of a girl, her four-wheeler and those Mexican immigrants that come up just short of making it to the border. We’ll be right back.
