Conservatives: Make Romney Earn Your Vote

For the past several weeks, the elite factions of the GOP have implored conservatives to throw in the towel and line up behind Mitt Romney. Considering that several of these individuals had either been highly critical of Mitt, or had withheld their support until his nomination was all but assured, I have to assume that much of this support is tepid at best. There is no better example of this than what Marco Rubio had to say the day after declaring his support for Romney’s candidacy.

“There are a lot of other people out there that some of us wish had run for president — but they didn’t,” Rubio told Townhall.com in an interview. “I think Mitt Romney would be a fine president, and he’d be way better than the guy who’s there right now.”

Apparently, Rubio’s endorsement wasn’t well received by the tea party activists who are largely responsible for his triumph over Charlie Christ in the 2010 Florida GOP Senatorial primary. The depth of Rubio’s support doesn’t really impact Romney’s candidacy. He’s already on record guaranteeing his support. Rubio has forfeited the ability to influence the Romney campaign on policy.

Conservatives who believe that presidential elections are won by rallying the base should withold their support for Mitt Romney at this time. If we capitulate seven months out, he will take us for granted even more than he already has. In other words, he will “Etch” and “Sketch” himself into a carbon copy of Obama in the hopes of winning Independents and right-leaning Democrats. If the past is any indication, this will result in millions of conservatives refusing to pull the lever for Romney in November. The unfortunate outcome will be four more disastrous years of Obama.

Make him earn your vote.

Newt Gingrich knows he could have catupulted Rick Santorum into a true two-man race, had he closed up shop, having majority of his supporters end up in the Santorum camp thus allowing him to cross the 50% mark in winner-take-all states and having Santorum pull out upsets in Michigan and Ohio.

But he didn’t. Proving once again that Newt cares more about himself than the conservative cause; cares more about his neo-lobbyist Virginia-residence bankroll than the ballooning deficit and debt.

    He’s “matured” indeed. Not.

had Romney as their 2nd choice than Santorum.

Gingrich dropping sooner wouldn’t have helped Santorum at all.

Santorum never had the infrastructure for a national campaign. No fundraising operation. No messaging operation. No oppo research operation. No advertising opperation. No effective surrogate attack dog operation, Heck, he didn’t even have enough of a campaign to get his name on the ballots of all the major states.

It’s nice to think, I guess, that a guy could get elected President without a national campaign, but back in the real world….

Whose side are you on? Your words betray you as an interloper from the Dem side. I hope Kos is paying you guys well.

P.S. You guys need to get better screen names. The ones you’re using are giveaways, pretty much. Try, for example, “Conservavet.” That at least signals you’ve found the right site.

The idiot purveyor of DK began that moronic “Operation Hilarity” months ago…and now Romney has tinkled in his sandbox. These clown trolls will get the hammer dropped on them soon enough.

Sorry you didn’t comprehend what I was trying to say.

Even though I have voted for Republicans all of my life (except for the time I voted for Jesse Ventura – dumb move), I don’t owe my allegiance to any political party of candidate. I’ve become less cynical about politics over the past few years.

        • rightwingnut2

          Typo…

          I’ve become MORE cynical….

        • Viet71

Pretty wishy washy. You should have said, “*%$# you!. Here are my damned conservative creds, so bug off, pal.” Guess Kos doesn’t pay very much.

…a party over principle Republican. I’m suggesting that we hold his feet to the fire so he upholds the conservative principles he’s been laying out during the primaries. If he doesn’t, he will lose. You’re suggesting that you don’t care.

signature by candidate Romney, swearing that he will sign the full repeal of 0bamacare if he becomes President.
I am certain that Congressman Steve King would be more than happy to present him with the document and hand him the pen in a news conference or have the event covered by C-Span.
That might get him a little more support from conservatives.

Constitution behind closed doors after his public inauguration flub? Remember that? Still no comparison b/w the two if you look at the facts and where we are 3+ years later.
