And That’s the Way It Is

September fourteenth, two thousand nine

Among the many Americans rendered ignorant about current events by too much dependence on mainstream media we must now count one Charles Gibson, anchor of the ABC World News. Michelle Malkin tells the story:

Several Chicago readers and Twitterers report that ABC News anchor Charlie Gibson told WLS-AM Chicago talk show hosts Don Wade and Roma this morning that the reason he hasn’t covered the ACORN scandal is that he didn’t know about it.

Never mind three shocking videos featuring waste, fraud, and child abuse, Gibson didn’t even know that the Senate had voted yesterday, 83 to 7, to cut off housing funds to ACORN. This despite the fact that Jake Tapper’s blog entry about the vote is highlighted on the front page of the ABC News web site.

Which raises an interesting question: where does this guy get his news? And why should anyone trust him to keep them informed when he doesn’t know what’s going on himself?

Has anyone taken this joker serious? I laughed when he got bumped from the innocuous GMA to the anchor chair. Not that anyone watches, anyhow.

Oh wait, we already have the daily secret briefings from the White House to major news agencies dictating the news coverage of the day.

Thank God we have the alternative media, who don’t get the briefings yet and haven’t put shut down yet (no matter Obama is so deferential to Chavez, because he see him as his mentor) – otherwise we’d not have any independent press yet, just government slaves.

Freedom of the press becomes it’s antithesis, an agency of oppression when the only “free” press (i.e. those not in prison or otherwise silenced) are those on the government payroll, figuratively or literally.

It is his job to actually find this stuff in the first place. Not knowing is just the next logical step after not looking.

    • http://andrightlyso.com/ civil_truth

And right now, his bosses are telling him that he takes his marching orders from the White House (or they’re acquiesing in the White House initiative, which amounts to the same in the end).

His duty as a journalist is to keep informed of what is going on and to seek out the truth,

But evidently journalistic duty goes down the tube when it conflicts with his job duties.

Didn’t know about it, or didn’t want to talk about it. WLS, last I heard, carries a lot of conservative talk, including the big 3 of Limbaugh, Levin, and Hannity. Plus they stirred some stuff up about Obama during the campaign that had the Chicago left all wee-weed up. He knew he was heading into an environment where he would probably get asked something about these current events about one of his hero’s pet organizations.

As much as ACORN’s been in the news over the O’Keefe videos, the Census showing them the door, and yesterday’s Senate vote to deny funding to ACORN, well…

Sorry, Charlie. Didn’t know about it? I ain’t buying what your trying to sell to WLS. Unless of course when all those stories came out you jammed your fines in your ears and yelled “LA LA LA LA LA LA LA!”

Which I could see him doing since he’s as in the tank for Obama as much as anyone else in the dinosaur media. Just another presstitute tring to cover for his pimp.

…guilty of journalistic malpractice due to gross ignorance, or he is lying. If he’s lying, it must be to cover up for his previous lack of action, which was in turn designed to cover for Obama’s ACORN buddies.

Maybe it’s elements of both ignorance and prevarication, as it is in the case of a great many Obama lackeys.

Charlie is the poster child for whats wrong in the media.
He truly makes Ted Baxter of the MTM SHOW look smart.
His life times work just was flushed down the drain!
You Mr, Gibson and ABC are failures!

ABC needs to stick to soap operas ABC is not the news anymore!

    LONG LIVE FOX !

  • Right_Again

Would that be like the John Edwards, Charlie Rangel, Jeremiah Wright, Christopher Dodd, and John Murtha stories that were inconveniently about people on the left?

Gibson tells me a lot about how he operates as a newsman with that statement.

I know NOTHING! I see NOTHING! But the dufus could dump on Sarah. What a joke! But, then who cares? Who watches those bozo’s anyway! They’re all going bankrupt. They’ll fold soon enough.

“Where Charlie Gibson gets his news.”

Gibson is either too stupid to be a news anchor or he just lied.

    You choose?

      Yes we can.

    Mr. Gibson:

Sarah Palin is laughing at your ignorance / incredulity.

    On a lighter note:

    1) Charlie did read the morning fax :
However the White House talking points
did not have the response he needed.

    2) Charlie left his teleprompter at home.

    3) The Obama teleprompter was on lone to Biden.

because Don Wade must have ripped him a new one over that. Wade is a hard-core conservative, and Roma is also, although much more gentle about it than Don.

  • Richard Mullins

go to a friendly audience but instead a place to get kicked around.

  • bs

at least not from Don and Roma.

  • http://theyeomanfarmer.blogspot.com TheYeomanFarmer

What’s especially aggrivating is that this is the same Charlie Gibson who lectured Sarah Palin for not being able to describe the “Bush Doctrine.”

  • E Pluribus Unum

I am aware that most of us get our news from Drudge and the right side, and so it seems weird that ANYBODY would not know all about the weeks-long Van Jones scandal and the ACORN scandal.

Average citizens, it’s not surprising that many of them do not know. But there is a 0% chance that the News Division of ABC did not know these were both hot-ticket items. Your average MSM reporter is a moron, and lazy to boot, but EVERY news division has people that track the OTHER networks, and they all watch FNC in particular because FNC (obviously) comes up with so much material that is legitimately original.

Charlie Gibson knew at least cursorily about both stories, but there’s no way he was going to admit it. To admit knowledge was to invite the follow-up question: why then did you not cover it? The ‘well, we didn’t think it was newsworthy’ is an untenable position and he knows it.

So he professed not to know, because being thought stupid is more acceptable to those guys than to be proven biased.

  • Right_Again

This is just an absolutely stunning revelation. How tightly would you need to shut your eyes to be unaware of this story? Even if he hadn’t seen the videos, the Census Bureau cutting ties and the Senate voting with only seven dissenters to cut federal funding to Acorn are stories about which he should have been aware.

I personally prefer news anchors to be somewhat informed.

  • peg_c

Lecturing Palin on her supposed ignorance and showing stunning ignorance or mendacity himself. He’s not too bright either way.

  • peg_c

the way the WH didn’t know about the 912 march and rally. Someone get a really big fire truck to put out all those pants!

  • Rich Tandler

His laugh when he answered the question gave it away. It was much easier to lie and say he hadn’t heard about it than it would have been to explain away the lack of coverage.

These Obama talking point “newscasts” are become less relevant by the day. I can learn just as much about what’s really going on in the world by staring at a test pattern for half an hour.

  • Richard Mullins

Playing the I don’t know game works better than saying you knew and didn’t even cover it. With it being everywhere, the I don’t know shouldn’t even be excepted.

  • chong

He did not specify which of Bush doctrine he wanted her to comment on. That question was design to make her look bad. That show me that is a bias news anchor and should not call himself a journalist.
