People who are afraid of overpopulation seem to be very short-term thinkers. Come 2050 (40 years from now) it will be too late. Population will top out, and will begin to fall. By then, we will be scratching our heads and wondering how it all came to this.

If one looks at population articles by Jonathan Last, one can see where population is headed. Fertility rates have dropped by over 50% worldwide in less than 40 years. Just to replace existing population, the average woman has to have 2.1 children.

One can view the current fertility rate from the CIA world factbook — Country Comparison :: Total fertility rate. As can be seen, already 59 nations (44% of the world population) are seeing less than 2.1, which is the needed replacement for any population. Historically, no culture has ever reversed a 1.9 replacement rate. Because it would theoretically take 80-100 years to reverse a rate of 1.3, it is considered impossible.

In 1970, the average woman had 6 children during her lifetime. Today that global average is only 2.9. Even the United Nations Population Division (UNPD) predicts a further decline to 2.05 by 2050, which is when the total world population would start to decline.

Walter Radermacher (VP of Germany’s Federal Statistical Office) has already admitted his country’s inability to reverse its 1.41 replacement rate. This is documented in the above link.

The United Nations has revised its population forecast for 2050. The U.N., which has espoused the overpopulation theory for years, now seem to realize what will happen if nothing is done to stop the drop. But it will be far too late if we wait for the full realization in 2050. Practices such as abortion, sterilization, contraception, “abortifacient” devices, and China’s one child policy have all had a significant effect on the world’s actual fertility rate. Pregnancy is quickly becoming an advantage of the past.

Items such as AIDS, the elimination of DDT (millions get malaria because mosquitoes are not killed), and rescinding the right to bear children all directly affect procreation. And they’re all direct results of human decisions.

Once population decline begins, it will accelerate. Strong evidence shows the most successful and educated in society are reproducing at the slowest rate. The global fertility rate is only half that of 1972. The Empty Cradle (Phillip Longman) describes how population growth is necessary for economic growth. Herein lays the sobering part.

In actuality, seniors are living much longer now than they used to. Together with the recent fertility drops, the ratio of workers to retirees is changing. In 1950 there were 16 American workers for every retiree. There were only three in 2005. The rest of the world is seeing the same increase in the percentage of seniors in each country’s population.

If the world continues to reduce its rate of having children, fewer young will be there to take care of the elderly. The entitlement programs in the U.S. (i.e., Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid) are quickly approaching bankruptcy. What cost reductions and expendability procedures will take place? Who will care for the elderly as they age?

As people grow older their ability to procreate decreases. Hence a larger older population means fewer baby-making opportunities. As a result, there’s a more quickly declining population.

With the approaching record federal deficit, and the increased healthcare expenses needed for seniors in the last 25% of their lifespans, at what point are they deemed expendable? From these and other factors, it seems likely the accelerated population decrease may lapse into a population freefall.

One of two scenarios would appear to result from the above picture. 1) The Muslim population, with a high 7.34 fertility rate, dominates and eventually takes over the world, or 2) the world as we know it ceases to exist in a few hundred years.

Certainly, we can open our eyes and look where existing population numbers are taking us. The overpopulation radicals are short-sighted enough not to worry about what happens in 2050. After all, that’s 40 years out.

Amazing how many think that God said [Genesis 1:28] “Be fruitful and multiply.” Actually He didn’t. He said “Be fertile, and multiply.” But so many just decide to just “spit in His eye.”

One may wonder how they’ll make out in the near future.

Because mosquitoes were almost nonexistent with the use of DDT in places like Africa, elimination of DDT brought mosquitoes back — in force. The 1972 ban of DDT in the U.S. did not help matters at all. Now, many less effective and more costly methods are used — netting, other chemicals, you name it. But from the “Malaria Clock” listed in the following paragraphs, one gets an idea of exactly how many deaths have occured, especially from malaria.

But who ever heard a book causing the death of millions? Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring was the driving force behind eliminating DDT throughout the world. Her fraudulent claims of bird egg thinning, and widespread declines in bird populations have all been thoroughly debunked by numerous studies.

Many need to read Junkscience.com’s 100 things you should know about DDT to fully understand DDT history. The Malaria Clock totals up malaria deaths of more than 90 million to date, with almost 15 billion cases where malaria has caused immense suffering and poverty.

Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) was first produced by Dr. Paul Mueller in 1939. He found that DDT quickly killed flies, walking sticks, potato beetles, aphids, and especially mosquitoes. After several unprecedented successes, including in 1943 when the U.S. Army used DDT on its soldiers to kill body, head, and crab lice, for his work with DDT Muller won the Nobel Prize in 1948.

Gas chromatography was universally used in pesticide analysis in the 1960s. Often, it failed to differentiate between DDT and other chemicals. DDT has been mistaken for other organochlorides routinely in the methods used about the same time Silent Spring came out.

Others have mistakenly claimed that some mosquitoes have become resistant to DDT, but forget about its repellency. The continued efficacy of DDT in Africa, India, Brazil, and Mexico — where 69% where all reported cases of malaria now occur — shows that repellency is very important in preventing indoor transmission of malaria.

Carson should have stuck around long enough to see how the mosquito population has drastically increased over the last 30 years.

Today, the evolving door of science is determining that some man-made chemicals are more toxic than thought. Thalidomide, used by some pregnant women to prevent morning sickness, was found to cause severe birth defects. Aspartame, an existing artificial sweetener, has been found to produce symptoms of MS in healthy individuals.

However, Alar (daminozide) used extensively in the 60-80’s, was sprayed on fruit (mainly apples) to regulate their growth and enhance their color. The EPA decided to ban Alar altogether because of carcinogenicity concerns. It turns out lab tests have shown over 5000 gallons per day of apple juice must be consumed before any tumors could develop, and drinking less that 100 gallons of water in one day could cause death.

Unfortunately, DDT has been put in the same category as the first two truly toxic materials. In frequently asked questions on DDT use for disease vector control, the World Health Organization (WHO) provides some very salient points for use of DDT. Senator Tom Coburn’s plea to the European Union on DDT is so well described in Environmentalism, Human Health, Africa. It also depicts how nicotine breathed in from common cigarettes is 100 times more toxic than DDT.

John Berlau (Research Fellow, Competitive Enterprise Institute) says, “Not a single study linking DDT exposure to human toxicity has ever been reported.”

In Paul Driessen’s column in Grassroot Institute of Hawaii, he writes about how DDT expert Dr. Gordon Edwards used to eat a spoonful of DDT whenever he gave a lecture about it.

Driessen also confirms how the EPA head William Ruckelshaus had never attended a single day’s session in seven months of EPA hearings on the use of DDT, and who admittedly had not even read the transcript, banned it for virtually all uses.

After seven months of testimony, EPA Administrative Law Judge Edmund Sweeney stated “DDT is not carcinogenic to man…The evidence in this proceeding supports the conclusion that there is a present need for the essential uses of DDT.”

What’s worse is there is a contingent of people who are OK with the loss of life in developing countries without DDT because of fears of world overpopulation. Shocking as it sounds many believe third-world populations are third class citizens anyway. They believe fewer numbers of them will only aid the perceived problem of world overpopulation. They are the ones who put differing values on life.

Some look at excommunication as a thorny punishment from the Catholic Church. It actually is a medicinal penalty that is compulsory to help the sinner repent and turn back to God.

In the 1970’s there were only female gulls nesting together all over the US. In the 1980’s researchers in Florida detected that the male alligators seemed to have strangely tiny penises, and had developed female hormone patterns. In that same water, they found turtles that had developed into hermaphrodites—having both female and male reproductive organs.

It finally dawned on some humans that estrogen may be the culprit. Then it was realized human birth control pills, morning after pills, and abortion pills all contained large amounts of estrogen. With health authorities estimating that 100 million women worldwide take some form of hormonal contraceptive, it was realized any excess estrogen would be present in women’s urine. Almost always, that estrogen is passed through all sewage treatment systems without removal by existing pollution abatement techniques.

Lean also found that even after repeated studies in England, one third of the male roach in rivers and streams across the country had started producing eggs, coming from female sex organs.

It finally dawned on some humans that estrogen may be the culprit. In England, almost one third of the drinking water comes from rivers, some of which is directly downstream of sewage outlets.
The United States Geological Survey provided the first nationwide study (2006) of estrogens as a water pollutant. They found a huge upsurge in the number of male fish growing female reproductive organs. When they did a survey of bass in the Potomac River, it showed almost 100% of the smallmouth bass were ‘feminized’, and actually had eggs in their testes.

But no corporate polluter could be found.

Evidently, the action of an endocrine disruptor can “feminize” male children even in the womb. Elizabeth Green (from Chemical Cocktail) highly disputes government assurances that current exposures are too low for any mutations to take place. It seems as if regulators never look at the additive actions of these hormone disrupting chemicals (i.e., estrogen) with other pollutants.
