Romney leads Obama in new ABC Poll

Again, Romney appeals to independents. His whole career has been about growth. Wether it’s with Dominos Pizza and Staples or the Utah Olympics.  We need a President that understands the global economy and how to compete with emerging markets.

Sarah gets a bump among Republicans who would rather go on a suicide mission to feed their ideology instead of beat Obama. Independents will never accept Palin. Here’s some of the article.

An announcement bump for Mitt Romney and a bus-tour boost for Sarah Palin put the pair atop the field for the Republican presidential nomination. But while their primary standings are similar, their broader prospects for election look vastly different.

Romney appears formidable: In a general-election trial heat in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll he runs evenly with Barack Obama among all Americans, and numerically outpoints him, 49-46 percent, among registered voters — not a statistically significant lead, given sampling error, but a clear reflection of Obama’s vulnerability to a well-positioned challenger.

Romney, though, is the only Republican to run that well; Obama leads all other potential opponents tested in this poll — Palin, Newt Gingrich, Tim Pawlenty, Michele Bachmann and Jon Huntsman. Palin fares worst, trailing Obama by 17 points among all adults, 15 points among registered voters.

Palin does worse than Huntsman in a general election.  64% of the American People said they will definately not vote for Palin and 63% said she’s unqualified for the job.

This is very important because beating Obama has to be the first priority for the good of the Country not to feed your ideology. Sarah Palin is a caricature fairly or unfairly and that’s why a Romney/Rubio ticket would give Republicans the White House for 16 years.

    the rest are horrible.

Romney4Prez, please, chill out and understand that the Redstate sandbox is not your personal dumping ground to pee on everyone else’s sandcastles.

Yet again, I’m asking you to understand your audience here at Redstate. This type of diary may be ok with readers on a pro-Romney blog, but you’re only pissing off people who potentially in the future may have to pull a lever for Romney. Please know as a major contributor to Romney’s 2008 blog, I can see that you are not helping. All your diaries so far are pushing more and more conservatives into the “I’m never going to vote for Romney” because his followers are more abusive than Paultards.

Romney doesn’t have a problem with independents, but he sure has a problem with conservatives, especially in the Tea Party. Your job should you choose to accept it is promote Romney to conservatives with logic and persuasion, not a grenade and a blow torch. Your scorched earth policy is not helping.

Let me be the first to advise you that most Redstate readers are very savvy in politics and polls. No matter how wonderful they can be for your candidate, they are completely useless until about four months before any election. Things are too fluid until then.

Yes, everyone here knows Sarah’s negatives will have to be overcome before she is a good viable candidate, but stating that will never happen is presumptuous at best. At worst, you are just alienating the people you are trying to convince. Stop hurting your own efforts and learn what works here. Please.

It doesn’t matter how well Romney does in polls against Obama. Romney ain’t going to win the Republican nomination supporting ethenol subsidies and agreeing with global warming. He’s turning me cold with that sort of talk. But to bloggers making out he’s a hard liberal, I would advise them to come back to reality. Its a mean spiritedness I hate to see on Redstate. We are not group think here. We disagree often and shout it out. We are not lemmings.

I think your first three sentences are good, the fourth is ok and the rest are horrible.

In my paragraph on Redstate readers being savvy about polls, my following sentences refer to polls in general. Thus, polls are useless until about four months out from an election.

must be have taken their toll on the country. I’m not committed to any candidate. Regardless this is good news and should breath some life into the conservative desire to win in 2012

  • renny

and Redstate should remember the perfect cand., Reagan, is already dead, and he wasn’t perfect either. He talked a good line but did nothing on abortion, signed Kennedy’s 1986 immig. bill, spent too much money, and let too many hang out to dry on Iran-Contragate.

But, ANYONE beating o at this time even if a couple points, at least in a really legit poll (and prob. ABC is like most lefty orgs. that always ask more Dems. than Reps. in their samples, so this may be even better than we know) is a BIG Deal. Let’s not waste it haggling.

  • nickel

In his entire career he has one only one election, the governorship of Massachusetts. And he also has won only ONE primary and that was after spending over $60 million of his own money. He earned a high name recognition from his past politicking but that is about it. There is no way he is a conservative nor is there any hope that the Tea Party will get behind him in either the Primary or the General. What is happening is that Obama’s chances of getting re-elected are dwindling and the REPUBLICAN RINO PARTY are terrified that the public and the Tea Party might just elect a candidate that will not be a puppet of the backroom Progressive Elites that have been running this country since 1988. SO, all the attention is in flooding the field with every RINO that might plausibly have a chance, Newt, Pawlenty, Romney, Perry, etc. to STOP the people from finally electing one of their own to power.

The elites see their power and control slipping away and the last thing they want is a Sarah Palin in office. THUS you are seeing Poll after Poll telling you that there is no way she can get elected and PLEASE, PLEASE believe us.

Bullpucky. Sarah Palin is a leader who can lead the average American in taking our country back into the hands and control of the US CONSTITUTION and the hundreds of millions of Americans who work hard for a living. VOTE and fight for our country. The time of the elites to control us and force us into a larger and larger state controled central govenment is over. Sarah Palin has the courage to take on the fight and we have few other people who we can trust not to betray us once they are elected.

    • YnotNOW

Just because you like Sarah Palin, does not mean that every single other candidate deserves to be called a RINO. And it is offensive to lump together Newt, Romney, Pawlenty and Perry.

  • http://theminorityreportblog.com Repair_Man_Jack

We can have Cap-n-Trade, bureaucratized healthcare run amok, and have the Republicans get blamed! Wait a minute, that’s not awesome. That’s terrible. I understand the Dems are not terribly excited about Biden as a Veep. Are you interested, Mr. Romney? Your beliefs would probably be more in line with the thinking and philosophy of the other party.

  • http://theminorityreportblog.com Repair_Man_Jack

He also likes the Carbon Tax. Nothing like $7/Gal Gasoline to get the American economic engine revving on all pistons!

  • lineholder

The left is hoping that Romney will be the candidate. Given a lot of the policies that Romney supports, in the context of policies, there wouldn’t be that much difference between Romney and Obama. Both would be advocating big-government high-dollar spending programs. This actually increase Obama’s chances of winning by discouraging conservative and/or Tea Party voters.

All of which I would guess ABC News is very much so aware of. This is just another attempt by a left-biased news organization to control the narrative and sway public opinion.

  • rightwingmom52

I like to read articles in their entirety and make up my own mind. Generally speaking, conservatives are just kinda funny that way.

as much as I would hate to see Romney take the nomination, almost as much as I would hate to see Ron “Bat Ass Crazy” Paul win it, I would vote with glee for Romney in the general, throw block parties for him, drive around town putting up signs, you get my point, if he is the one who will beat Obama. In fact, put any name other than Ron “And you thought the DoDo Birds were extinct” Paul in his place, and the same applies.

What Romney policies are like Obama’s?

Romney vetoed the raise in the minimum wage.

Romney gave out over 800 Vetos vs 12 for Bush in 8 years

Romney turned a 3 billion dollar deficit into a 300 million dollar surplus

Also, Romney will give waivers to 50 states to stop Obamacare

Individual Mandates in Mass. is a Stes rights issue. It’s respecting the 10th amendment like a real conservative is supposed. States mandate all kinds of things. What would some canservatives do if Ohio or Virginia did individual mandates? Would they try to stop them or respect the 10th Amendment? It’s States Rights vs the intrusion of the Federal Government.

Implicit Bush bashing just makes your candidate look bad.

The more you post this stuff, the more I will make it a goal to defeat Romney.

  • http://slcliberty.blogivists.com randy streu

No. State’s rights or not — anyone who believes that ANY level of government can or should tell individuals that they have to own something IS NOT A CONSERVATIVE.

Get that through your skull first, then we can talk.

  • acat

Mitch “Trucer” Daniels was prepared to trade away anti-abortion for getting our fiscal house in order.

Mitt “Waffles” Romney apparently believes that if he can just say the right words, he’ll get the Social Conservative and Single Issue Values Voters behind him.

With the presumed leader moving from Mitch to Mitt, we’ve gone from betraying the Social Conservatives to taking them for granted.

(and that’s without bringing up how terrible Romney’s been on personnel – and therefore how terrible his administration will be on policy)

    Mew

  • romney4prez

Bush cut taxes and he did nothing to control spending and he had a Republican House and Senate. He gave out 12 vetos in 8 years. Clinton gave out 38 and Reagan gave out 78. Mitt Romney gave out

    Over 800!

He vetoed things like raising the minimum wage. A lot of the vetoes were overturned by a democrat majority in the legislature that could override his vetos but Romney got enough through to turn a 3 billion dollar deficit into a 300 million dollar surplus.

Yet because Bush is from Texas he’s seen as a real conservative even though his fiscal policy led to Obama. When the Democrats said we tried things the Republican way and it didn’t work, there talking about Bush. We didn’t cut taxes and control spending and that’s just the truth.

You go back and read this:

absorb it, comprehend what it says, and conform to the spirit of it, and maybe someone on this site will listen to you. For right now, everyone is pointing and laughing at an obvious shill job.

  • gekster

It’s just keeps getting better. :)

  • chihank

Romney actually hopes Palin does run. If Palin does run, she will absorb all the oxygen from other candidates like T-Paw or Cain. Plus, the media will focus on Palin while Romney could assume a low profile.

However, if Palin decides to sit 2012 out, then Romney will be put into the spot light. All of Romney’s flip flops and examined once again. Romney does well in polling because of his low profile. Romney is the generic GOPer for now. but once people get to know Romney more, the less people like him. To fair, that goes for all the GOP candidates.

Despite the high jobless rate, Obama will be tough to beat. Obama has access to unlimited campaign funds. Plus, voters will be reluctant to oust the first black president. I doubt any of the mentioned candidates can beat Obama, except for maybe T-Paw, Mitch Daniels, or Rick Perry.

  • gekster

I thought Bush couldn’t run again after two terms.
    Did they change the law?

  • Goldwater_Conservative

he point blank said so when he ran. So he ended up doing what he said he would do you just misunderstood what he was saying.

  • http://www.hakubi.us/ Neil Stevens

You owe Mitt Romney an apology for dragging his name through your comments.

  • Finrod

Of course what romney4prez fails to point out is that Bush had a majority of Republicans in the House for 6 years, and a majority in the Senate for 4 years. He didn’t have to face Dem majorities in both houses of Congress until his last 2 years, by which point he was approaching lame duck status. Hence he didn’t have to veto much (I don’t think he vetoed anything until 2007) because it just didn’t make it to his desk. Romney on the other hand was facing large majorities of the opposition party in both parts of the MA statehouse, so of course he either had to issue lots of vetoes or let the legislature ride roughshod over him.

It’s like comparing canoeing downstream to canoeing upstream; the latter is going to be a lot more work.

  • http://slcliberty.blogivists.com randy streu

A Veto is meaningless without context, as you suggest, Finrod.

That’s like saying “So and so wrote THIS MANY BILLS! so it proves he’s… whatever.” Doesn’t prove a doggone thing, because we have to know what was IN those bills. Same thing for vetoes.

800 Vetoes by themselves certainly don’t PROVE Romney’s Conservative bona fides, any more claiming I eat breakfast every day proves I’m health-conscious.

  • powertothepeople

since you are good at looking things up.

Now that you said what you said above, brings up one of my old curiosities. For some reason I have always wanted to know the answer, but when I get home or to the office, I forget to look.

Can a president serve more than two terms if they are not consecutive or are two terms all they have regardless of them being back to back?

I know they limited it to at least no more than two consecutive terms after Roosevelt, but not sure if they skip a term could they come back and do another two.

    Await your reply………..

  • Finrod

    .

  • gekster

    Thats it.

  • Finrod

The key part of the 22nd Amendment is:

No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.

  • gekster

    from:
    http://www.infoplease.com/askeds/presidential-term-limits.html

    excerpt:
The 22nd Amendment states that no person elected president and no person to hold the office of president for more than two years is allowed to be elected more than once more. It makes no difference whether the two terms are consecutive.

If the Vice President comes into office and serves less than two years, then technecly he can serve 3 minus 1/2 terms, as he can only be elected twice.

  • powertothepeople
  • powertothepeople
  • Finrod

The 22nd Amendment does not say that someone who has been elected President twice cannot become President, merely that they cannot be elected President. So it’s theoretically possible that say George W. Bush could be made Speaker of the House, then become President again by the resignation of both the current President and Vice-President.

At least that’s the way it reads to me– does that make sense to you?

  • gekster

    You have found a loophole.
So one can be elected President twice, get elected to congress and become Speaker of the House, become President, ater his term, regain speaker of the house, and become President again, ad finitum.
Now, mind ya, a lot of pieces have to fall into place for this to happen,
    and don’t tell Obama.
I wouldn’t put it past him to try this ploy.

  • Finrod

AFAIK there is no requirement of being a member of the House of Representatives in order to be elected Speaker. In theory they could elect anyone Speaker, though it doesn’t happen in practice.

  • acat
