Why should we nominate George W. Perry?

It makes no sense for Republicans to nominate another Governor from Texas this soon after Bush.  Rick Perry can easily be morphed into George W. Bush 2.0 or George W. Perry by Obama and the Democrats. It’s the same reason why Jeb Bush isn’t running. George W. Bush is toxic to the Republican brand right now. Is it fair? No, Rick Perry is a good Governor. Is it reality? Yes, it would be crazy to give Obama second life by allowing the Democrats to run against Bush via Rick Perry. You will have to spend half the campaign trying to explain why Rick Perry isn’t George Bush. Look what happened with Harry Reid. Reid was all but beaten in Nevada but Sharon Angle gave him second life and now he’s doing the same old liberal thing.

My ideology is closer to Herman Cain or Bachmann but I’m a pragmatist and I know a Romney/Rubio ticket will easily beat Obama/Biden and give us the White House for 16 years.

There were 2 polls recently that showed the Country still blames Bush more than they do Obama for the economy. Why in the world would you want George W. Perry, another Governor from Texas to be the nominee?

“It makes no sense for Republicans to nominate another Governor from Texas this soon after Bush.”

It depends on HOW GOOD HE IS.

A Perry/Rubio ticket will easily beat Obama/Biden and give us the White House for 16 years.

But that isn’t really the point, is it.
I think from the little I know about Perry is that he is a fine fellow, his State is certainly doing well, and that speaks volumes right there.
      Romney’s State… hmmmmm….

  • Aaron Gardner

Someone has run out of real arguments.

I do not see how anyone can delude themselves into thinking the inteliigent young man from Florida with impeccable conservative credentials would want to lash his future to the has-been milquetoast from .. wherever Romney claims to be “from” this week.

      That’s some weapons-grade self-delusion there….

      Mew

      * yes, Aaron, I know you’re not saying Romney/Rubio makes sense.

      • Aaron Gardner

And I agree, this guy is delusional for sure.

Funny acat, but I picked up the pairing of Rubio with Romney most in the diary also. Seems everyone wants him to be the VP running with their preferred candidate. Shoot, there are some candidates running in Fla. that are being billed as the next Marco Rubio. Can’t be more honored than that.

I don’t think there is much doubt that Rubio is “the” Republican in Washington currently. When he speaks it is pure eloquence, filled with knowledge, common sense, and he is definitely comfortable in his own skin (just ask John Kerry). He came to Washington being a three legged conservative, in the Reagan style. So far, that hasn’t changed. He is not of the 100% purity and demanding variety, and I believe he would agree with politics is the art of the possible.

Rubio has made clear he will not seek the presidency in 2012, under any circumstances. He left the door to a possible VP run open just a little. It will all depend on who asks him to be their running mate. One of the last people I could picture Rubio running with would be Romney the moderate. On the other hand I think he would jump at the chance to run with Perry.

Yup, the liberals and the Paulies are already out there screaming about another Gov. from Texas, and he is another Bush and blah blah blah. Not only is there no love lost between the Bushes and the Perry’s, but consider the fact that Bush has polled higher than Obama not that long ago. I think there are many people out there that would take Bush back in a heartbeat over Obama the disaster. Not sure the Bush Perry comparison will have much if any of a negative effect. Those with derangement syndrome will attach it to any of our candidates.

        • acat

I would, however, like to see Marco remain in the Senate. DeMint and the other conservatives are going to need allies if they’re going to push McConnell out of the top spot in 2013… (Lee (R-UT) and Paul (R-KY) and DeMint (R-SC) and Rubio (R-FL) – we need more like ‘em, not to reduce their numbers!)

      • Flagstaff

they would win and he would become “next-in-line” for President–and Romney might not even run for the second term. (Unlikely, I know, but possible for Romney.)

        Perry/Rubio makes more sense, though.

I do think we could use Michelle Bachmann’s “titanium spine” in the White House though. What a contrast to linguini.

        • romney4prez

Perry makes no sense and you will not even have a chance in purple states with Perry. If I’m a Democrat, I’m hoping the Perry is the nominee because it will be easy to morph Perry into George W. Bush. Nominating Perry would be suicide for the Republicans. You don’t need the headache of having to defend George W. Perry throughout the election. The democrats will spend millions saying the Republicans want George W. Bush back in the White House and that’s why they are nominationg George W. Bush 2.0 with Rick Perry, another Governor from Texas. We don’t need Perry to beat Obama and we don’t need the headache. Nominating Perry means we lose any chance of taking the Senate and Obama gets re-elected.

          • gekster

The left wants Romney like they wanted McCain.
They see him as easily beatable.
They are afraid of Perry because he can win.
The left only attack the ones they fear the most.
Why do you think the went after Palin with such hate.
Why the heavy attacks against a political nobody.
But you won’t see that, because it makes sense,
and sence is not what you are about.

  • aesthete

but it looks like I’ll have to hand the crown over to you: congratulations, you believe that the American voter’s ability to differentiate between two separate individuals (Bush and Perry) is slightly lower than that of a Rhesus monkey of below average intelligence.

  • williamjameson

Wow, someone believed the koolaid stories coming from the liberal media. Location has nothing to do with the politics of the candidate. It never ceases to amaze me how conservatives can be baited as easily as liberals.

Rick Perry isn’t Bush, they are 2 different breeds of politicians. In fact Perry criticized Bush several times to distinguish himself from Bush. That was as pointless as Perry;s from Texas.

Jeese you could say Romney is a republican………..just like Bush so beware, lol. One could also compare Romney as a moderate because Bush was labeled a moderate over several issues.

Forget Rubio too, you don’t waste talent like Rubio on the Veep position, Rubio is presidential material. Rubio would beat Romney hands down. Remember Rubio doesn’t like Mandates nor would he cave in to liberal ranters like Romney did.

Romney/Cain or Romney/Bachman is my preferred choice if Mittens can beat Perry. Texans do it bigger so watch out because Perry leads as #2 and 3 in many polls. Not too shabby for someone who hasn’t committed to running.

  • snowshooze

    It would be Romney.
    Hands down.
I wonder who the Democrats are going with in ’12
I hope they stick with Obama and don’t primary him because if they changed horses, there might be a race.

    as for this gem…

Rick Perry can easily be morphed into George W. Bush 2.0 or George W. Perry by Obama and the Democrats

How about telling us what makes Mitt the right guy for the job instead of tearing every other candidate down to make room for the biggest loser of the bunch?

    seriously?

    this is silly

    • AceInTX

Rick Perry can easily be morphed into George W. Bush 2.0 or George W. Perry by Obama and the Democrats

so we should let Obama and the Lib Dems intimidate us into nominating who they want to run against?

      Brilliant!!!

    • http://moelane.com/ Moe Lane

…suggesting that Mitt Romney has any hope of being in George W Bush’s league reminds me of this bit from Fellowship of the Rings:

      • http://www.hakubi.us/ Neil Stevens

        .

      • AceInTX

I don’t disagree…Bush is infinitely better than Romney…As you rightly point out we didn’t have to wait for W to figure out which way the wind was blowing before he’d move as Romney does…but I would rate Perry infinitely better than Bush in that….in all but a few cases…Perry has been reliable on limiting taxes, the growth of government and balancing the budget here in Texas without raising taxes. .

All I’m saying to this Romney sycophant is that Romney has more in common with Bush than Perry has with Bush.

Bush did the bank bailout, and if memory serves me correctly the Auto Bailout…He did the Prescription Drug Benefit and the Kennedy NCLB act. Bush signed McCain Fiengold and signed the $300 Billion Farm Bill.

I don’t think…based on my experience with Perry in TX…that he’d go along with any of those but I’d bet my bottom dollar Romney would.

        Thus my comment.

  • JSobieski

Perry is George Bush 2.0 because they are from the same state and both have a Texas draw.

    Meanwhile, Obamacare and Romneycare are . . . ?

Just like a liberal to focus on style over substance. You are doing Romney no favors. Frankly, I think you secretly hate the man, and are trying to sabotage what little chance he has.

If you truly do support Romney you really should cease your efforts on his behalf. Frankly, I wish you would become a PR hack for Obama—-you truly are that ineffective.

  • http://908StraightSt.wordpress.com/ mbecker908

Because he’s NOT Mitt F. Romney. Which is more than enough for me.

  • lastgopinillinois

to suggest that our opposition would accuse Perry and Bush of being cut from the same bolt just because they came from the same State. The public is not that stupid I hope.
But if I wanted a former businessman for my president, I think I would rather have a Herman Cain rather than a Romney.
Cain seems to be more bound by principal rather than politics.

    • californiagold

Cain has a record of accomplishment in the business world that no other republican candidate can match, including Romney. Cain’s problem is that he isn’t experienced in the world of politics, campaigning, and staying on message… If Cain can refine his message to jobs and the economy, he might surprise some people in Iowa.

The real question republicans need to ask themselves is who has the best chance of defeating Obama in 2012 ? The answer to that question isn’t yet clear. If the economy continues to tank, then there are numerous republicans who can/will win in 2012. But, if the economy slightly improves next year, the pool of electable republicans gets considerably smaller.

The concern about a Romney nomination should be obvious. Romneycare is an issue that won’t go away, and if republicans plan on using ObamaCare as a campaign issue, Romney is the wrong candidate to lead that effort. Furthermore, there is a concern that a Romney nomination will trigger a third party candidate that would split the anti- Obama vote.

While Perry has yet to show what he’s made of on the national stage, all indications are that he might be an acceptable candidate to “bridge” establishment republicans with tea party members.

Finally, Perry has hair just as nice as Romney.

  • Repair_Man_Jack

It certainly could if he refuses to endorse an effort by Mass. Right-To_Life to end the Individual Mandate because it supports covering the costs of abortions.

Also, could Mitt Warmney’s previous stands on AGW be seen as similar to those of Newt Gingrich’s? It could if he continues to blame industrial pollution for changes in the Earth’s weather.

  • gekster

It didn’t work before, why do you think it will work now.
Besides running around collecting money, just where has Romney been.
During the debt debate, why was he soooooo silent.
    That’s easy to answer.
If he doesn’t take a stand, there is nothing for him to answer to.
If you don’t take a stand, you stand on nothing.

  • gekster

Use the left to promote the right.
    Yeah, that will work. ;)

  • runner12

That because he is from TX he will be compared to GW Bush? That like saying Rubio might be compared to that squish Crist, just because they both held office in FL.

Perry is not a perfect candidate and there are some legitimate questions we should be asking him ( the same goes for any candidate), but this is just silly.

Equally puzzling is your statement that you are more aligned idealogically with Cain and Bachmann, yet support their polar opposite in the GOP which is Mittens.

Something stinks in the state of Denmark, I think.

  • Repair_Man_Jack

Any GOP Presidential hopeful from there had better load up the moving van.

  • romney4prez

If you took time to listen to Romney’s positions and actually look at what he’s done vs. people who are labled Conservative, you would realize that Romney isn’t the polar opposite of Cain.

Romney loves controlling cost and maxamizing money that is spent to get the most bang for your buck. He did this with Staples and Dominoes and in Mass he gave out over 800 vetoes against things like raising the minimum wage while George W. Bush gave out 12 vetoes in 8 years. Romney will control spending with the Veto.

  • Aaron Gardner

    How’s that?

  • Repair_Man_Jack

If you write tripe about George W. Perry, you’ll get nothing but Mitt Warmney from me.

  • gekster

    ……

  • electionwatch

it’s about Rick Perry and Mitt Romney. Perry has also used the veto many times, and Mr. Romney is the one who conceived the concept of having universal heath care in Massachusetts. He’s another Obama when it comes to health care. If he is elected president, he’ll just let ObamaCare slide.

BTW It’s hard to be a conservative in Massachusetts. He’s a former REPUBLICAN two-term Governor of the bluest state in the union. How could he be elected in such a blue state? Some Democrats must’ve seen something liberal in him (RomneyCare).

And don’t come back at me with the “Scott Brown was elected there last year, and he’s a tea partier/conservative.” Well, that was because of the frustration with our president and the fact that the voters of Massachusetts wanted somebody new to serve for them in our federal government. Also, because of the tea party wave that our county saw last year. That’s why Brown got elected.

  • acat

    Barack Romney 2012

  • williamjameson

so get over it. Romney is lousy at controlling costs. Oh wait, I know, Romney passed the costs on to the Fed so tax payers could pay for his failed bill.

Vetoes don;t stop bills if the legislature really wants a bill passed they’ll run it through a second time. Romney should of vetoed RomneyCare. 800 means nothing as he left the state less than 2 years after being elected and Romney left the state in worse shape than when he took office!

  • Danielle Davis (ocleverone)

Romney executed over 800 line item vetoes. Mass allows line item vetoes – the President of the United States does not have that authority.

Of those 800, over 700 of them were overridden by the legislature – overwhelmingly.

  • Jim Tomasik

I could but I see no benefit in it for me. I do see potential harm down the road. So I’ll just not. I better look out for my own aspirations even if it is the demise of Romney’s aspirations.

I think Anthony Circosta might agree with me.

  • electionwatch

not former executive experince. Romney hasn’t served as Governor of Massachusetts since 2007, and hasn’t served in any office since then. Perry is now a three-term CURRENT Governor of Texas still using his executive experience there. We elected a president in 2008 with no executive experience, and still doesn’t have any. Perry has had 9 years of executive experience now, and still counting. We need Perry rather than Romney.

Remember, we need current executive experience, not former executive experience.

  • snowshooze

And he is from the Peoples Republic of Massachusetts…
And has been running for YEARS now..
I don’t favor anyone in particular at this point, but I am not impressed by several.
Personally, I can’t trust a guy that spends that much time on his hair.
But in all fairness, lets put them in a cage fight debate and see who comes out in one piece. I don’t know enough about Perry to kick any dirt on him yet, or I would have been a bit more balanced.
We Alaskans are still welcoming all comers to the race, and would like to see a lot of debates amongst them.
What we do in this next election has an awful lot on it, and we aren’t in any kind of hurry to be calling our shots just yet.

  • http://travismonitor.blogspot.com Freedoms Truth

Pity we got the addled McCain instead. We could have used a guy who could talk economics.

It’s one thing beating the likes of Bill White for a 3rd term in a mostly Red State. The national stage is another. The power in Texas is the Lt. Gov, Speaker of the House & Railroad Comissioner. The Speaker selects committee chairs & that sets the agenda. All the governor has to do is sign the bill. As far as this Texan is concerned, Perry has 3 strikes against him, Gardisil vaccines, Trans Texas Corridor & the failure to get the Sanctuary City bill passed. It was killed by one of his donors. Perry is a smart politician and is keen as to which way the winds are blowing. But, true grit,I think not. We need a conservative “leader” that can speak from the heart, not with the wind. And I can’t wait to vote for “her”. Nuff said.
