Chris Matthews Moments

One of the headlines I read today which talked about the pick of Paul Ryan as Mitt Romney’s running-mate used the word “energized” to describe the excitement around this wise and wonderful decision. Are you kidding? Energized?

I just watched the first Romney/Ryan ad….America’s Comeback Team ….and I’m having a Chris Matthews moment. There are chills running not only up each of my legs, but also down both my pudgy arms. There are honest-to-goodness tears in my eyes.

America, there may be hope after all!

Now, I wasn’t a Romney fan in the beginning. I’m not necessarily one today. I mean, I have the Romney bumper stickers and I wear the Romney tee shirts, (I have one for every day of the week – how’s that for keeping the faith?) but I do that more out of duty to my country than out of conviction for the man. Now, with the addition of Paul Ryan – a Camelot kind of guy with a firm grasp on this nation’s economic crisis – I feel as if somebody just airlifted a paddle up that proverbial creek and handed it to American taxpayers like me. There are answers and Paul Ryan has them. Not only does he HAVE them, he has them written down and ready for implementation. Wahoo!

People like me who have been in business for themselves and who *think* they built it themselves know that you can’t be all things to all people. The secret to success in any venture is to surround yourself with competent people. Mitt Romney obviously knows this. His business experience demands that he have the best people he can possibly find to help him steer our nation on the journey ahead. If the question is the economy, the answer is Paul Ryan.

Yeah. I’m energized. Right out of my house and into the streets….I guess I’ll need new bumper stickers, though.

and I really liked your post for the humor especially.

I just watched the closing ceremonies in London and had the biggest laugh with the Monty Python guy when I read your Camelot remark. He, Ryan, may be our knight in shining armour. Hope so.

And yes, you’re right that the key to being a successful manager is surrounding yourself with smart people, even if their smarter than you.

    I’m energized too!

“Camelot” is rather tied to JFK.

I’m not clear on how you’re using the term “Camelot” here… I assume you’re not referencing Kennedys but you might want to pick a different term.

Monty Python skits. A knight in shining armour is what I was referring to, as in Romney brought in the calvary when it was needed.

    Is Camelot a snob thing?

The Kennedy Camelot was not exactly the ideal of role models for many reasons, not the least of which was the womanizing. Somehow I don’t see Ryan fitting that mold.

  • checkmate2012

or not? Rich guy? I get the womanizing thing but don’t get the overall reference.

Romney can’t really spend money in earnest until after the convention due to election laws, while Obama was allowed to pummel him all Summer.

We’re now seeing a renewed attack, and it’s got Obama off his game and the Dems chattering like psychiatric patients.

Romney today on CBS This Morning, “He just wants to stay in power…he’ll do anything to stay in office and win this election.” Fascinating line of attack, very Tea-Partyish.

If he stays aggressive and tough, he can win this.

It was a comparison of the Kennedy’s to King Arthur and his court. Somewhat idealistic, fantasy world. With regard to the Kennedy’s, the character flaws were generally hidden or overlooked.

Actually, Wikipedia gives a pretty good summary here:

In American contexts, the word “Camelot” is sometimes used to refer admiringly to the presidency of John F. Kennedy, as his term was said to have potential and promise for the future, and many were inspired by Kennedy’s speeches, vision, and policies.

At the time, Kennedy’s assassination had been compared to the fall of King Arthur. The lines “Don’t let it be forgot, that once there was a spot, for one brief shining moment, that was known as Camelot,” from the musical Camelot, were quoted by his widow Jacqueline as being from his favorite song in the score. “There’ll be great Presidents again,” she added, “but there’ll never be another Camelot again

The reference is to the musical Camelot, and in particular the line

Don’t let it be forgot, that once there was a spot, for one brief shining moment, that was known as Camelot.

which Kennedy’s family and admirers appropriated to use as summation of Kennedy’s presidency.

Of course I could’ve looked it up but knew ya’ll had knowledge.

It’s kind of creepy, as in de ja vue, as in words that elevated a “promised” one given no substance.

Had the same recollection, which I posted below at the same time.

We don’t need any bad omens.

My bad for being ignorant on the issue. Sorry but my sense of humor got the best of me from Monty Python episodes and the closing ceremonies.

At least they can laugh at themselves- great London games!

that I loved both the musical and several of the movie adaptations. Corny, I know, but they appealed to my romantic side. Besides, my mom was a Robert Goulet fan.

    :)

And Paul Ryan most definitely is not.

R&R is a winning ticket. We have the walk and they have the talk.

I’m hopeful that Americans are more objective than subjective when it comes to the prez. We need solutions, not speeches.

Sadly, I’m not convinced that will be the case in the future, but I’m still hoping and praying for common sense one last time. Being this may be our last great hope of what America really stands for and it’s a battle of wills, the people need to wake up.

We have to win at all costs.

was in Camelot. What a voice.

Yeah, the Camelot reference was a bit off but I understood the enthusiam meant by runamuck. I saw my husband choke up today while watching Romney/Ryan in WI. We’ve got hope today that we didn’t have last week.

  • funwithknives

done to death and it just seems a ridiculous, almost criminal notion now.

Personally, I get a little tummy-troubled every time I hear it mentioned.

We don’t need to go into all the ‘nasty stuff’ here. Let’s just say ‘repeating a lie’ does work , in fact very well at times.

Especially when The Fable was enabled by a Media that full-well knew what was occurring in real-time, and did nothing at all to clue America in.
Then they go and repeat it for oh-so many years.
    {It’s coming up again. ‘Scuse me for a minute…}

…a young, handsome family guy which would appeal to soccer moms. It would have been sexist.

One thing the Kennedy’s did was re-kindle the faith in the American family…it was much later that we learned that they were all sleazy.

    Anyway…thanks for the commentary.

for some of us. What followed thru the years after his assassination was sickening and gee whiz, that is one messed up, dysfunctional family…just like the rest of us after all.
