Prior to the 2010 election, Arkansas had a Democrat Governor, a Democrat Lt. Governor, 2 Democrat U.S. Senators, 3 Democrat U.S. House members, and Democrat majorities in the state House and Senate. After that election, Arkansas had a Republican Lt. Governor, a Democrat U.S. Senator put out to pasture by Republican John Boozman, a Republican retained Boozman’s U.S. House seat, two Republicans who took two of the other three U.S. House seats after the two Democrats who held them retired, and Democrats had narrower majorities in both the state House and Senate.

Fast forward to yesterday. After redistricting and disgust with Democrats, the other Democrat U.S. House seat went to a conservative Republican, and Republicans now have a majority in the state Senate and either an equal number as Democrats in the state House or a one-seat lead (there is one election that hasn’t been decided). This is the first Republican majority in either of the state’s legislature since 1874, since Reconstruction. In 2014, Democrat Mark Pryor will have to defend his U.S. Senate seat; hopefully, his votes for Porkulus, Obamacare, and Dodd-Frank will be enough to put him to pasture as it did to his former Democrat U.S. Senate from Arkansas colleague, Blanche Lincoln. Democrat Gov. Mike Beebe is ineligible to run in 2014, so the chief executive’s seat will be wide open.

Arkansas has probably the only remaining conservative (somewhat) Democrats left in the country. But this conservative state is getting rid of them for even more conservative Republicans. Unfortunately, the rest of the majority of America’s voters are too stupid to do something as smart as Arkansas voters did.
