My Take on the 2010 WV Races

Here’s a rundown of how I think the WV races will go:

WV-01: Incumbent Democratic Congressman Alan Mollohan is running for re-election. On the Democratic side, Mollohan and Steel Worker RJ Smith are in the running. On the GOP side, Realtor Cindy Hall, GOP Activist Patricia Van Gilder Levenson, former State GOP Chair David McKinley, Coal Mine Contracting Company Executive R. Scott Smith, Custom Furniture Maker Tom Stark, Financial Executive Daniel Swisher, and Attorney Mac Warner are in the running. I expect McKinley to prevail in the Primary with 55% and Mollohan in his Primary 89-11. In this climate, I think McKinley will defeat Mollohan 52-48. GOP GAIN.

WV-02: Incumbent GOP Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito is running for re-election. The GOP has unified behind Capito. On the Democratic side, Elementary School Principal Virginia Lynch Graf and David Harless are in the running. The Constitution Party has unified behind Teacher Phil Hudok. I expect Graf to prevail in the Primary 87-13 and lost to Capito 63-37. GOP HOLD.

WV-03: Incumbent Democratic Congressman Nick Rahall is running for re-election. On the Democratic side, Rahall and State Delegate Ralph Rodighiero are in the running. On the GOP side, Nurse Anesthetist Lee Bias, Sign Company Sales Executive Marty Gearhart, and Attorney Conrad Lucas are in the running. The Democratic Primary is a tossup. I expect Lucas to prevail over Gearhart and Bias 54-41-5. Whoever the Democrats nominate will defeat Lucas, 57-43 Rahall or 59-41 Rodighiero. DEM HOLD.

    Lee Bias (WV3) and Matt Lockett from (KY6) have co-founded the Conservative Freshman Coalition. They have recruited nearly 50 other conservative candidates willing to put their names on the line! There is a ground swell of support for Lee, Matt and their group.

    ? Upholding, supporting, defending, and advocating the Constitution of the United States of America;

    ? Supporting the passage of an amendment to the Constitution to pass a balanced and fiscally responsible federal budget;

    ? Supporting lower taxes for small businesses, the lifeblood of our economy, by fighting to repeal harmful and excessive taxes that limit these small businesses from creating wealth;

    ? Supporting an amendment to the Constitution that requires term limits on all members of Congress;

    ? Supporting an authentic package of immigration reform in which immigrants will embrace America?s civic and political institutions by learning our founding documents and learning the English language. Furthermore, I believe it is the duty of our federal government to enforce our nation?s preexisting immigration laws and continue to heighten the security surrounding our borders to ensure the legal entry of immigrants into our country. I will not, under any circumstance, support amnesty for illegal aliens;

    ? Supporting the repeal of H.R. 3590, The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and replacing it with common sense solutions to lower the cost of health care including, but not limited to, tort reform and insurance portability across state lines.

    These six basic principles will preserve the institution of Congress and preserve this historic body as it was originally intended by our founders, as written in the Constitution. We will strive to execute each of these principles at the will of the constituents we represent, and we will faithfully, responsibly, and honestly accept these guiding principles as our motto during our freshman year in Congres
