I stumbled across this email today. It may be "old news" around RedState, though I haven't seen it.

Tuning in to C-Span recently, I found myself listening to a speech by Senator Barrack Obama, Jr. He was standing in the pulpit of a black church in Selma, Alabama.

Posted at 9:51pm on Feb. 2, 2008 $100,000 for a Lee Greenwood song?

By GOP4ME

I generally don't like to criticize fellow GOPers, BUT it appears that North Carolina Gubernatorial Candidate Fred Smith paid performer Lee Greenwood $100k to create a song for his campaign and to appear on his behalf. I think Fred Smith is a decent guy who has a good shot at winning the primary, though, something such as this makes me question his use of campaign resources.

http://projects.newsobserver.com/under_the_dome/smith_paid_100_000_for_c...

Fred Smith paid $100,000 for a song.

According to his most recent campaign finance report, the Republican gubernatorial candidate paid country singer Lee Greenwood to write a song and perform at several barbecues.

Greenwood is best known for his patriotic song, "God Bless the U.S.A.," which has become a staple of Republican political events.

He debuted the song, "From Good to Great," at a fundraiser for Smith in October. He's also played it live at a handful of Smith's barbecues, and the campaign has used a video of Greenwood at other functions.

Smith has used the barbecues to raise money, collecting nearly $28,000 from 900 donors who gave less than $50.

The money was paid to Lee Greenwood Inc. of Nashville, Tenn. "

The boys at JibJab are at it again, this time a recap of 2007.

There's a few political jabs in here, so guess it's fair game for RS.

Thanks to Steve Foley, now as an embed without the commercial in the comments thread.

A funny review of the year about to end.

Posted at 7:07pm on Dec. 23, 2007 An Open Letter to NightTwister: Watch the Actual Video of Huck on CBS!

By Mr. Ed

Dear NightTwister

You begin your letter to Gov. Huckabee by stating you did NOT actually see his interview with Bob Schieffer this morning on CBS. You have provided a quote from another RedState blogger who briefly summarized his own review of the interview.

Your post has sparked a feeding frenzy of HuckaBashers who are ranting about what they believe are Huck's desire to move the GOP further left.

Posted at 8:57am on Dec. 23, 2007 Huck Gets First of the Major U.S. Newspaper Endorsements

By Mr. Ed

The Dallas Morning News is a top ten U.S. daily newspaper. To my knowledge, it is the first of the major daily's to make an endorsement in the presidential race.

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/opinion/editorials/storie...

This is a fair and balanced editorial; even my HuckaBasher friends at RedState will find the editorial to contain a fair amount of criticism of Huck.

Posted at 1:16am on Dec. 23, 2007 Mitt/MLK Story Won't Go Away. Mitt Campaign "Knew Witnesses Were False."

By Mr. Ed

Interesting post linked via Byron York at The National Review's "The Corner."

http://thephoenix.com/TalkingPolitics/

If this is true, the two witnesses who claimed to have "seen" George Romney march with MLK have faulty memories (along with Mitt).

More importantly, this story suggests the Romney campaign knew these witnesses' stories could not be true and allowed their faulty stories to publicized.

Posted at 12:17pm on Dec. 22, 2007 Analysis: The First Five Primaries

By Mr. Ed

This morning I saw an NBC political pundit (can't remember his name) give Mitt the current edge in the race due to his "being in the top three in each of the first five contests).

I went to RCP and confirmed this observation. I also did some quick calculations on the relative standing and average polling percentages of each of the candidates in the first five contests (IA/NH/MI/SC/FL). Here is what I found:

Posted at 9:51am on Dec. 12, 2007 A Good Defensive Stop

By Repair Man Jack

Imagine your team is playing on Sunday. The opposition has the ball and is cramming it remorselessly down your defense’s collective gullet. You know, I know and thee know they intend to call 30-Gut and will probably gain eight or so yards on it next play. That’s with one of your team’s safeties in the box. The situation gets ever grimmer, as the enemy horde approaches your red zone.

That pretty much sums up where the Ohio GOP was, heading into yesterday’s special election in Ohio’s 5th Congressional District. After spending too much money and nearly pulling defeat from the iron jaws of victory, GOP candidate Bob Latta defeated Democrat Robin Weirauch 57-43. The tide may have crested and finally begun to recede, as people in Ohio seem more willing to forget what a disingenuous individual former GOP Governor Bob Taft truly was.

Posted at 12:07pm on Dec. 7, 2007 Huck #2 in Nevada??

By Mr. Ed

I understand posting poll results as a blog isn't everyone's favorite idea here at RedState, but this one is a bit surprising.

http://americanresearchgroup.com/pres08/nvrep8-703.html

Mitt 29%
Huck 23%
Rudy 17%

Surprising in that Nevada is next door to Utah, a Mitt stronghold, and a state nobody confuses as being a stronghold for evangelicals.

Of note, Mitt's support in the state has been steady at this level.

Posted at 5:07pm on Dec. 6, 2007 The OH-05 Special Election Matters

Let's keep this district Republican and one less vote for Nancy Pelosi's San Francisco agenda.

By Bob Latta

I am running for Congress in Ohio's Fifth Congressional District. Our Special Election is next Tuesday, December 11 and I need your continued support to get my message out to Ohio's voters.

Make no mistake. Ohio's Fifth Congressional District is conservative. But my liberal opponent is getting some help from Nancy Pelosi and the liberal netroots helping her put false, defamatory ads up on the airwaves. And this race is extremely close.

I need to continue to get my message of getting tough on illegal immigration, supporting the sanctity of life, protecting our Second Amendment rights, and cutting taxes stays out to the voters by keeping my ads on the air in these crucial final days.

Your support is truly helping and we are all taking notice.

I want to thank the Republican netroots community for supporting my candidacy, especially those at Slatecard, Redstate, and Blogs for Victory.

If you have a minute, please consider supporting my candidacy with a financial donation today. Whether it's $1,000, $500, or even $50 -- it will make a difference and help me get my conservative message out.

Also, if you are in Ohio, or would like to come here to help, please email us and let us know.

With your help, we'll keep this district Republican and one less vote for Nancy Pelosi's San Francisco agenda.

Thank you,

Bob Latta
Republican Candidate for Congress (OH-5)

Posted at 11:48am on Nov. 25, 2007 "The Encyclopedia Brown of Governors"

By Vladimir

For your Sunday morning reading pleasure, there's a puff piece in the Baton Rouge Advocate that manages to give a little insight on the personality and leadership style of Louisiana's governor-elect.

...Bobby Jindal isn’t perfect.

For one thing, he loves fast food. It is a common campaign trail weakness that he shares with another Rhodes scholar attracted to the political limelight, former President Clinton.

In most other areas of his professional life, Jindal is disciplined.

Heh.

Posted at 7:51pm on Nov. 20, 2007 LA: Republican Tucker to Lead Dem-Majority House

By Vladimir

Louisiana is just, well, different from most places. The State Legislature is less partisan than you'd think, in spite of the fact that the GOP was all but extinct just 30 years ago.

Jindal Taps House Republican Leader to Become Speaker

In a not-too-surprising twist, Governor-elect Bobby Jindal (R) has thrown his support for the office of Speaker of the House to Rep. Jim Tucker (R) of Terrytown, a New Orleans suburb, making Tucker's selection by the House a formality.

The Dems will have a narrow 53-50-2 majority when the new House forms in January.

Leading Democratic challenger for the post, Democratic Rep. Don Cazayoux of New Roads, acknowledged Tucker's apparent victory: "We know what the governor's involvement does. We know the reality. That's just too much pressure when the governor gets involved to vote against the governor's choice for speaker."

Jindal has also given his support to Sen. Joel Chaisson (D) of Destrehan, for the office of President of the Senate, which the Dems control with a clear majority.
