Endorsements

Posted at 3:32pm on Jul. 1, 2008 Stephen Baldwin redeems the family name: Or how to make your older brother look like a fool.

By PhxG

Barely an election goes by where a Baldwin declares that he will leave the country if a certain person is elected to the presidency. But when Stephen Bladwin does it, he means if Obama is elected.

Stephen however, is still not off the hook for Bio-Dome

By phred

Here are my frank observations of what every thinking American should consider in the 2008 general election.

Since Sept. 11, 2001, I have delved deeply into my own political beliefs as well as those of other parties and special interests. This has led me to a conclusion about the current global security crisis and its corrective course of action: There is NO SINGLE NATIONAL ISSUE more important to the well being of future of the American way of life than that of neutralizing Islamic terrorism. There is nothing more important in the opposition of this REAL and EMINENT THREAT against us (and the entire world) than our waging an unwavering and relentless fight to defeat this enemy and political doctrine that doesn't recognize this is not an option.

Posted at 3:34pm on Jun. 24, 2008 The coveted Bill Clinton's spokesman's statement of support for Obama email.

Glorious.

By Moe Lane

Via Tommy Christopher of Political Machine comes this... simply, this:

"President Clinton is obviously committed to doing whatever he can and is asked to do to ensure Senator Obama is the next president of the United States," Clinton's spokesman Matt McKenna told Reuters in a one-sentence e-mail.

Let us take a moment to examine this statement. I find it to be a deeply cynical exercise in political double-speak. I also find it to be a easily deniable piece of semantic-free fluff. I further find it to be a marvel of legalistic evasion that seeks to evoke the letter of a position while blithely evading its spirit - and if anything in these three statements are contradictory, well, the text itself aspires to a paradoxical state where it means nothing and everything simultaneously, thus allowing the reader to define whatever he or she chooses to. It is in fact a Rorschach made of pure, flavorless pap - but yet, it somehow seems to glory in that status.

In other words, it is precisely like the Obama primary campaign, and is thus all the response that the junior Senator from Illinois deserves.

Well played, former President Clinton. Well played, sir.

Posted at 3:21pm on Jun. 23, 2008 McCain's Vietnamese Prison Warden Endorses Him

By Bill Dupray

I'm thinking McCain may have some mixed emotions about this one.

Four decades ago, during the Vietnam war, Mr Duyet was in charge of the notorious Hoa Lo prison - the place where Mr McCain says he was brutally beaten and tortured during five-and-a-half years as an American prisoner of war.

"McCain is my friend," said 75-year-old Mr Duyet as he feeds the caged birds he now keeps in his garden in this coastal city.

Posted at 10:10am on Jun. 17, 2008 Will Barak Obama’s VP Choice be Smarter Than the Average Bear?

By Repair Man Jack

Let me be the first to defend the good name and honor of one Winnie the Pooh. He is indeed smarter than the average bear. According to my two-year old son, this is no empty slogan. So mighty is the wisdom of Pooh, it now even informs the philosophy of Barak Obama military advisor and former Navy Secretary Richard Danzig.

The Honorable Mr. Danzig offered us the following observations about my little boy’s favorite story book character and stuffed animal model.

A Radical Obama Supporter? How Unusual!!

By absentee

Over at Politico, Jonathan Martin has a blog up about another Obama radical. This time, it's big time campaign bundler and Code Pink co-Founder Jodie Evans.

Evans is a notorious figure, notorious most recently for an inflammatory interview where she suggested that Osama bin Laden was basically being a reasonable chap defending his home:

Jodie Evans:… "We were attacked because we were in Saudi Arabia, that was the message of Osama, was that because we had our bases in the Middle East, he attacked the United States."

Paul A. Ibbetson: "Do you think that's a valid argument?"

Evans: "Sure. Why do we have bases in the Middle East? We totally violated the rights of that country. Why do we get to have bases in the Middle East?"

You can catch the audio here.

Code Pink is, of course, famous for their disruption of Congressional hearings, and for casting spells against Marine Recruiting Stations. Yes, that's right, spells.

There's more, read on ...

Posted at 10:24am on Jun. 10, 2008 Slate Magazine Celebrates Che Guevara's Birthday

By kowalski

Briefly noted in the media:

[Update: Actually his birthday is June 14. Slate is really building up to the party by celebrating it a few days in advance.]

For those of you who hadn't realized it, today is Che Guevara's birthday. Slate Magazine is celebrating it on their home page and in their "Today's Pictures" section with a big: "Happy Birthday Che!" The pictures are generally flattering to the mass-murdering Communist.

By wennejunk

I came across this story on Politico re: Matt Drudge Keeps Campaign's guessing.

Its unusual to not see an article about Drudge (critical or otherwise) on Drudge, so I figured I'd send him the link and who'da thunk: it showed up a few hours later. I like to think it was I (and only I) that brought it to his attention....

Posted at 4:48pm on May 22, 2008 McCain's Rejection of Hagee

By RioGrandeRightWing

A part of me feels this came to late, but at least the ties are cut.

I'll say this. As an evangelical, I respect Pastor Hagee. I disagree with how political he gets in his sermons and some of his eschatology preaching. But I think (just as I believe this about liberals) what he says and does, he really believes it and feels its the best for the country.

I was happy to know that he has recently spoken out against his own hateful comments about the Catholic church and is trying to make amends with that group of people.

Posted at 1:50pm on May 7, 2008 KS-02 Family Research Council Action Endorses Ryun, Calls Jenkins Anti-Family

By kansasconservative1

Former Congressman Jim Ryun today received an important endorsement in his primary battle for his old seat in Congress from FRC Action, the legislative arm of the Family Research Council.

FRC Action also makes it clear only one of the three people in the race were in line with there very particular agenda:

WASHINGTON, May 7 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, FRC Action, the legislative advocacy arm of the Family Research Council endorsed Jim Ryun representing the 2nd Congressional District of Kansas.

"When looking at his opponent in both the primary and the general elections, it is very clear that Jim Ryun is a true friend of the family," said David Nammo, Executive Director of FRC Action. "Additionally, he won the FRC Action True Blue Award five consecutive times while in Congress."

While in Congress, Jim Ryun co-sponsored the Marriage Protection Act, the Right to Life Act, the Human Cloning Prohibition Act, the Religious Freedom Amendment, the Make Marriage Tax Relief Permanent Act and the Death Tax Repeal Permanency Act.

In comparison, Lynn Jenkins largely supports abortion rights, except for late-term abortions, according to the Politico newspaper. She also received $5,000 from the pro-abortion group, the Republican Majority for Choice PAC; and she received $4,100 in donations and in-kind contributions
from the WISH List PAC, which works to elect pro-abortion Republican women.

"You do not receive that much money from pro-abortion groups without being pro-abortion," Nammo said. "By contrast, while in Congress, Ryun sponsored legislation that protected life and the family as well as the family's pocketbook. He is the clear choice in this race and why we are pleased to endorse him for Congress."

After Lynn Jenkins' statements regarding a desire to increase taxes to pay for social programs, and her long dedication to pro-abortion positions, it isn't surprising Ryun continues to outshine her in district polling- currently leading her 50-34

Posted at 3:03pm on Apr. 7, 2008 Samsphere: The one conservative conference that is not a waste of time

By Erick

ImageLast week I had the pleasure of attending Samsphere Chicago where I gave a speech about political activism. Below the fold, you can find my remarks (slightly edited to more match what I said than what I had written ahead of time).

Samsphere, put on by the Sam Adams Alliance, is a really brilliant way to network between state and local bloggers around the country, share resources, pick each other's brains, and learn how to build your blog into a tool for education and activism in your area.

I highly recommend going to a Samsphere conference. As luck would have it, there is going to be one in Denver in a few weeks. You should go if you can.

Let me say personally that I have been to two or three conferences a month since December. Samsphere is one of two or three that I sat there the whole time enjoying it, not wasting my time. The return on investment in your time and cost of getting there is well worth it.

And now, my remarks:

Posted at 9:53am on Mar. 17, 2008 RedState Endorses Sean Parnell (R-AK)

By The Directors

Don Young (R- Don Youngland) is embittered, corrupt, out of touch, and part of the problem in Washington. His fifteen minutes are up and the time has come to send him back to Alaska, though we know he'll be heading to K Street instead.

In the past few years, Don Young voted to force workers into an open, public ballot on the issue of unionization, he voted against reauthorization of the Patriot Act, he voted to expand government funded stem cell research, and he railed against conservatives who wanted to cut earmarks by calling the taxpayer dollars his money. Don Young is also under FBI investigation for taking bribes, illegal gratuities and other unreported gifts from an Alaskan corporation, and he has dubiously forced on the people of Florida a road they don't want all because one of his donors wanted the road.

We fully support and encourage you to support Alaska's Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell in his bid to unseat Don Young in the Republican Primary.

We commend Governor Sarah Palin for supporting her Lieutenant Governor and recognizing that the Republican Party must clean up its own house. Putting Don Young on the trash heap of history is a perfect place to start.

Posted at 10:50am on Mar. 10, 2008 Conservatives Must Rally to Hold This Seat: We Endorse Paul Broun (GA-10)

By The Directors

ImageIf you can only give money to one candidate or cause this election year, we have just the candidate and cause for you, the re-election of Congressman Paul Broun (GA-10). This is a bit of a deviation from your standard cause. In addition to being a re-election campaign, it is also a Republican primary fight.

In the battle between left v. right, squishes v. conservatives, status quo vs. trench fighter of the right, establishment Republican vs. grassroots leader, we have two candidates in the GOP challenging Paul Broun for his district -- and only Broun is the right conservative trench fighter who is also a grassroots leader. All the others are out to get him simply because he is not part of the status quo, out of touch establishment. In an age of GOP despondency caused by fiscal recklessness and the selling out of conservative values, you would think the Republican Party would line up behind a guy like Paul Broun — a die hard social and fiscal conservative. You would be wrong. The establishment wants a party man, not a conservative.

Some of us around here like to call Paul Broun "Ron Paul without the crazy." A doctor by training, Broun ran a campaign that tied together conservative Christians and hardcore libertarians. We don't always agree with him; for example, he's opposed to the war on drugs and supports state medicinal marijuana programs. We cannot, however, help but like and admire Paul Broun — a champion for home schoolers, free markets, and life.

Members of the Republican Study Committee tell us that Congressman Broun has been a solid, reliable vote and supporter of conservative causes. He's their point man on fighting against escalated government incursion into the mental health arena — all the more commendable considering that issue has, in the past, affected a member of his family and there is always the temptation to want the government to solve this sort of problem.

Broun has two primary opponents -- Barry Fleming and Nancy Schaefer. They are both good people, but Fleming is a party man through and through. He craves leadership and will not be a conservative fighter against a drifting GOP establishment. Nancy Schaefer is a social conservative, but, in her years in the Georgia General Assembly, has done little to lead and has been an ineffective campaigner. And frankly, we give credence to the rumors that Schaefer is in the race to hurt Broun -- putting her party ties ahead of conservative conviction.

In past years we have not been so bold as to say this, but we will do so now: if you can only give to one issue, cause, or campaign this year, Paul Broun's re-election effort should be it. He needs all the help he can get. And make no mistake, he is one of us through and through.
