Elizabeth Colbert Busch must explicitly repudiate Dick Harpootlian’s bigotry.

Background: “South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Dick Harpootlian, a trial lawyer, longtime Democratic leader, and legendary figure in local politics, reportedly told a South Carolina Democratic Party dinner [Friday night*] that the Democratic challenger would send “Nikki Haley back to wherever the hell she came from.”” Harpootlian, of course, has a history of these kinds of remarks:

This stunning information from KMOV’s Larry Connors: There’s evidence that someone tried to access the state website that has the list of all Missourians who have concealed weapons permits. Yesterday morning, someone tried to access the website 23 times. Governor Nixon’s administration says it is trying to find who is behind the incident. Reportedly, the login info used on the House computer was the same info the state | Read More »

Black Keys Concert Review
By: Leon H. Wolf (Diary) | May 4th at 03:57 PM |
I went to see the Black Keys live at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville last night, with the Flaming Lips. As a substantial part of what I have to say will sound negative, it is important to emphasize that it was not by any means a bad show. The band played a pretty amazing amount of material and were definitely energetic and engaged. It was not, | Read More »
Gomez responds to Markey’s despicable negative attack ad
By: Dan Spencer (Diary) | May 4th at 02:05 PM |
Yesterday we took the very Liberal Democrat Congressman Ed “Mudslinging” Markey to task for his despicable ad that features Republican Gabriel Gomez’s face directly next to Osama Bin Laden’s.
Republican Gabriel Gomez, a former Naval Aviator and Navy SEAL, responded directly to Markey’s negative attack ad this morning on Fox and Friends. Gomez called Markey’s use of Osama Bin Laden a disgrace, not only to his service, but also to his former teammates and the intelligence of the Massachusetts voters:

Tech at Night: It’s easier to get private Broadband than public Water. Google and eBay take stances.
By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | May 4th at 12:30 AM |

So the left is mad that the President’s new pick for Commerce isn’t totally in the pocket of the unions, and they’re mad the new pick for FCC, Tom Wheeler, isn’t a radical socialist like Bernie Sanders. I’m not all that optimistic about either pick though. The President is choosing bundlers for personal loyalty, which means radicalism on his terms, but still radicalism.
This is amazing though, and this is something the radicals will never tell you: more Americans lack access to public water than to broadband Internet. Twice as many, in fact. Government is a failure, compared with private competition.

By: Moe Lane (Diary) | May 3rd at 08:30 PM |
So this video of a report on the news that people’s health premiums may be going up significantly next year (the number quoted was 10%: that will be important in a moment) is going around. It shows, in fact, Senator Chuck Schumer (D, NY) making what turned out to be a couple of fascinating comments along those lines: Here’s the transcript of the relevant commentary | Read More »

Ohio Senate Republicans Rake in Union Cash
By: Jason Hart (Diary) | May 3rd at 02:00 PM |
Republican leadership in the Ohio Senate has received nearly $200,000 in labor union donations since 2011, secretary of state records reveal. Senate President Keith Faber (R-Celina) announced on May 1 that he does not expect the Senate to pursue workplace freedom, signaling majority support for forced unionism. Nine of Ohio’s top ten Republican recipients of union contributions since January 1, 2011 are state senators – | Read More »
Pigford, Blaxploitation, And Breitbart
By: Repair_Man_Jack (Diary) | May 3rd at 01:00 PM |
If you ever live long enough, there will be a certain sad series of events that will happen to every man. It’s something far worse than having to hang up your favorite pair of rugby cleats and it’s nothing you can take a GNC testosterone pill to delude yourself about reversing. One of these days your parents will become so helpless that you will have to look after them in the same way they looked after you when you still wore diapers. My father had this happen to him and it got so bad that it nearly destroyed his marriage. He grew up in Surry County, VA. His mother stayed there and never willingly drove more than fifty miles away. She was simple, honest and totally unprepared to deal with senility, widow-hood and the dishonest sharks who will drive forth into the country to callously prey on the elderly widows who are losing it one day at a time.
Surry, and several rural, Southern counties like it have a large concentration of African-Americans who farm for a living. They are poorer, less well-educated and less politically savvy than people from urban areas or who grow up in wealthier homes. Members of this demographic still remember what Jim Crow Laws were from having actually lived under them. Thus, they were the ideal target for the Great American grievance industry. They were preyed upon by the Pigford Grievance Farmers. They were used by a detestable core of professional activists and litigators to steal money from the American taxpayer. These people took advantage of this group of farmers the same way disingenuous Insurance-peddlers used to take money away from my Dear, Old Grandmother. It was Blaxploitation worthy of a 1970’s Hollywood movie

Costly Medicaid Expansion Nears Approval In Colorado
By: Kyle Forti (Diary) | May 3rd at 12:30 PM |
The Colorado State House voted last Thursday to approve a multi-billion dollar Medicaid expansion for the state of Colorado. Colorado’s Medicaid healthcare program is administered by the state, but jointly financed with the federal government. The expansion takes advantage of provisions in President Barack Obama’s signature healthcare law, the Patient Provider and Affordable Care Act, also known as ObamaCare. While Medicaid currently consumes more than 20% | Read More »
Markey so fearful of Gomez he goes negative right out of the box
By: Dan Spencer (Diary) | May 3rd at 12:00 PM |
Democrat U.S. Senate hopeful, the very Liberal Congressman Edward Markey, launches a negative ad just two days after winning the Democrat primary in the campaign to fill the now vacant Senate seat formerly held by John Kerry.
The despicable Markey ad, features Gomez’s face directly next to Osama Bin Laden’s. Its hard to imagine how worried and desperate Markey must be to do that to a former naval aviator and Navy SEAL. Markey’s ad is pure swift boating — a tactic the left relentlessly rails against. The Markey ad brings back memories of the controversial Max Cleland ad that became a Liberal/Progressive cause célèbre during the 2008 campaign, but even that ad didn’t do what Markey campaign has done.
So why does Markey feels he has to resort to such gutter tactics at the start of his campaign against Republican nominee Gabriel Gomez? Perhaps it is the newest polling on the Gomez/Markey race. According to a new Emerson College poll released Thursday, Gomez trails Markey by just six points — 36 percent to 42 percent. The new poll is in line with Public Policy Polling revelation that its first general election Massachusetts Senate poll results look like a single digit race

Protect America First
By: Daniel Horowitz (Diary) | May 3rd at 10:56 AM |
When Jim DeMint delivered his farewell speech in the Senate, he touched on a salient point that is often lost in the raucous of political discourse. The entrenchment of political interests and allegiances has often made commonsense ideas that transcend political ideology impossible to implement. Nowhere is this more evident than with the push to hold national security hostage for mass amnesty. We have a | Read More »
