Posted at 1:36am on May 9, 2008 Misleading AP Headline: Comedy Daily Show Just Like O'Reilly
By Warner Todd Huston
The Associated Press today wins first place for the most misleading headline in the MSM by saying that a study shows that Jon Stewart's Comedy Central "The Daily Show" show is somehow "a lot like" Bill O'Reilly's "The O'Reilly Factor." The Thursday May 8 report is flippantly headlined, "Study of 'Daily Show': It's a lot like O'Reilly," but the following report does not exactly confirm the headline. It appears that the AP's distorted headline was meant to equate "The O'Reilly Factor" to comedy in order to impugn the serious character of the hit Fox show and make of it but an exercise in comedy.

By Warner Todd Huston
And for another perfect example of why teachers unions is antithetical to the welfare of the kids AND the budget of the state, we have a union that has forced the State of New York to spend $81 million dollars to pay teachers NOT to teach!
The New York Times gives us the wasteful tale of money paid for NO work.

Posted at 9:30am on May 8, 2008 New Study: Conservatives are Happier Because They Hate Everyone
By Warner Todd Huston
There is a news report starting to make the rounds amongst the MSM on a study that claims to have discovered why conservatives tend to be happier than liberals and it is just the sort of bilge that the MSM loves to promulgate. We may see more of it over the next several days because, while it is titled "Conservatives Happier Than Liberals," it is basically saying that the reason conservatives are happier is because they just don't care about other people. This purported research claims to pinpoint the reason conservatives are happier and it is because they have theirs and they don't care if everyone else is poor and downtrodden. In contrast they claim liberals are less happy because they care more about people and are all heartbroken that people suffer "inequalities."
Yes, they are telling us that if you're a happy conservative, it's because you are a hateful, meanie. Thank you New York University.

Posted at 9:00am on May 8, 2008 Steve Ybarra, Honest Democrat
By Repair Man Jack
Democrat Steve Ybarra deserves condign promotion. Super Delegate isn’t a fitting title for him. He’s a Super-Duper Delegate. He’s the most honest Democrat currently riding dirty on DC and he’s a voice that Ho Chi Dean does not want you to hear broadcast nationwide.
Steve Ybarra reveals the liberalism, compassion and equality of the so-called Democratic Party for what they really are: state-sponsored brigandage! When asked whether he supported Hillary or Barack for President, he gave an answer that revealed the true agenda of all liberal political leaders. “What’s in it for me?”

Posted at 5:28pm on May 7, 2008 Netroot betrayal: a retrospective.
Nope, not something about to happen. Something that *did* happen.
By Moe Lane
First, watch this clip from Hot Air.
(Relevant bits from the transcript after the fold)
Three observations:
1). As Allahpundit noted, Chris Matthews totally insulted Markos Moulitsas with that last comment. Not that Markos cares: it is, after all, good for business.
2). If you're wondering why Ms. Bernard is endorsing Rush Limbaugh's comments about the Democratic Party's historically shabby treatment of the African-American community (another example of Rush's argument here), it's probably because she's a member of the Independent Women's Forum, which is in fact a conservative group (an angry, Leftist take on the IWF may be found here). The Daily Howler noted this several months ago, which means that Chris Matthews has been helping a conservative spokeswoman get to a place where she can whack on the monolithic lock that the Democratic Party has on African-American voters - and from a ostensibly pro-Obama stance, to boot.
3). None of the players involved have a very high opinion of the ability of progressives - particularly online ones - to work this all out for themselves. Which is... fair, because it's not immediately obvious that many of them have actually noticed what's going on inside what is apparently one heck of a blind spot for them. Shoot, I wouldn't even mention it myself if it wasn't too late to do anything about it Presuming that they actually could have, of course, which is always an open question with the netroots. All in all, the casual and largely justified contempt shown to them by their betters would be pathos-inducing if it weren't quite so funny.
Ha! I guess that I had four observations, then.

By haystack
Well, gang...the fix is in...
Obey and his pals have come up with a 3-pronged approach for getting an Iraq supplemental to the floor of "the People's House" and very little of it has anything to do with winning the war, or succeeding in Iraq, or whatever our Political heroes like to call it these days. It has a great deal to do with what we can hand out to our fellow citizens while simultaneously sticking it to the men and women risking their lives for ALL of us (including Democrats)....but given the election cycle these scumbags stand in fear of, there is little surprise in this news:

Not to interrupt their paeans of joy over the Obama win, of course.
By Moe Lane
I'll wait.
(pause)
All right?
OK, explain something to me. Obama's the inevitable nominee, yes, yes, the GOP is doomed, yadda, yadda, the Democrats are going to take the White House, consolidate Congress, cut and run from Iraq, start war crimes trials against the Bush administration, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. Oh, yes, by now we over here on the Right can sing along; you folks haven't been shy about blaring these - and one other - discordant tunes in our weary, weary ears. 2007 might have been a lowered-expectations disaster for your crowd, but with the new wave of Red-to-Blue (or whatever you're calling it) we should be on the brink of the Glorious People's Progressive Future. Why, we're even hearing about how Nancy Pelosi is going to stand up to the administration with the new war supplemental bill (H/t: Hot Air). All in all: this is supposed to be your time.
So why are you letting the Democratic leadership set you up?
Democrats Unveil War Supplemental Plans
House Democratic leaders outlined a war supplemental spending plan to their rank and file Tuesday that will give members a chance to vote separately on Iraq policy riders and various spending add-ons.
The bill, to be brought directly to the floor later this week, would set a Dec. 31, 2009, goal for withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq. It also would ban permanent U.S. bases in Iraq, limit interrogation techniques to those included in the current Army field manual, bar a status of forces agreement that would obligate the U.S. to defend Iraq without congressional approval, and require Iraq to match U.S. reconstruction funding dollar for dollar. And it would call for U.S. forces to pay the same fuel prices in Iraq as the Iraqis.
The bill will be divided into three sections — for war money, policy riders and domestic spending. That will permit House Democrats to vote for or against each section while still getting the measure through that chamber.

Posted at 9:50am on May 7, 2008 Al Gore; Eater of the Dead
By Repair Man Jack
Al Gore has once again displayed the timing and class that enabled him to help elect George W. Bush President back in 2000. As the dead lie unburied and decaying in Myanmar, after a cyclone hit the country with the impact of Lucifer’s Hammer, the government worries more about its sovereignty than it does its people. Al Gore, like the Fiddling Emperor Nero, worries far more about his showmanship and his pet issue than he does the fact that at least 40,000 people lie dead in the wake of a cataclysmic natural disaster.

By Warner Todd Huston
Accusations are flying thick as bats in the night sky between the Service Employee International Union (SEIU) and their affiliated union, the United HealthCare Workers-West (UHW-W-W), over claims made by the SEIU that the UHW-W misappropriated $6 million in member's dues money. But, it's hard to escape the feeling that the SEIU is really just trying to put a stake in the heart of the internal uprising that members of the UHW-W have implemented inside the SEIU by launching harassment lawsuits that seem to have little merit.

Posted at 11:07am on May 6, 2008 Stephen King Channels John Kerry
By Josh Painter
Like in a scene from one of his horror novels, writer Stephen King channeled the spirit of John Kerry while addressing a group of high school students at the Library of Congress recently:
I don't want to sound like an ad, a public service ad on TV, but the fact is if you can read, you can walk into a job later on. If you don't, then you've got, the Army, Iraq, I don't know, something like that. It's, it's not as bright. So, that's my little commercial for that.
What mysterious and evil force compels liberals to morph into complete morons when they deliver speeches to students? John Kerry was clearly possessed by some sinister entity in 2006 when he was speaking to students at Pasadena City College. The Senator and former Democrat Party Presidential Candidate advised them:

Posted at 9:55am on May 6, 2008 Obama's "Meet The Elite Tour - 2008" Rolls On
By patriotroom
Obama found himself in Indiana yesterday as part of his Meet The Elite Tour 2008. Ever the friend of the bitter-clingers and bowlers everywhere, he once again insulted his fellow Americans. Let's get a definition out of the way first. From Wikipedia.
Dignity: The state of being worthy of honor or respect.
Obama told voters in Indiana that losing your job makes you lose your dignity, i.e. you are no longer in a state of being worthy of honor and respect.

Posted at 10:57am on May 5, 2008 Obama v. Reagan on Patriotism
By patriotroom
Barack Obama wants to redefine patriotism. Isn't that like trying to redefine water? When Democrats try to redefine an American ideal or institution, it is usually because the traditional American view makes them uncomfortable or offends them. So rather than try to figure out why they are out of the mainstream, they simply redefine it.
The Washington Post tries to help Obama in his quest to redefine patriotism. The title itself is disturbing.
Obama Faces Test in Asserting His Own Brand of Patriotism
As Sen. Barack Obama tries to secure the Democratic presidential nomination and turn his attention to the presumptive GOP nominee, Sen. John McCain -- a war hero who survived more than five years in enemy captivity -- he is facing a crucial test of one of his driving themes: redefining what it means to be a patriot.
After watching past Democratic candidates wither under Republican attacks, Obama has sought throughout his campaign to present his own vision of patriotism, with a call for uniting the country and restoring its values that is, in its way, as redolent with gauzy American exceptionalism as the "shining city upon a hill" of Ronald Reagan.
Well there's a big leap. Obama wants to redefine patriotism, so Obama is like Reagan.
Please.

Posted at 8:43am on May 5, 2008 Physician, Heal Thyself
By Repair Man Jack
Back in the day I was learning afresh of this wondrous new thing called blogging. As a callow-headed newbie, I took a shot at what users of Freerepublic.com refer to as a vanity post. My target was the execrable Howard Brush Dean III, MD and my post was entitled “It’s The Condescension, Stupid.”
This was written back in 2004. I felt concerned back then that Dr. Dean would be spending the next four years writing a prescription that would clobber America the way he and those of his repugnant ilk would like to see us clobbered. It was also right after the bilious and nauseating Al Gore endorsed Hatred-Powered Howard with one his patently condescending gaseous emissions.
It also pre-dated the timely and effective Diary of a Dean-o-Phobe, authored by the New Republic’s Jonathan Chait. This and National Review’s infamously funny magazine cover begging the Democrats to Please Nominate This Man, helped deflate his imperious smug cloud in time for the Iowa Caucuses. This led us to the best primal scream not to grace the cover of a modern art masterpiece.
Seeing Dean’s concession speech in Iowa brought to mind what Icarus may have looked like flapping his arms after the wax had melted and his feathers had fallen off. Rational human beings would learn from such a tragic brush with hubris. Howard Dean used it as leverage and settled in as Chairman of the DNC.

Posted at 8:13am on May 5, 2008 Is Hard Work 'Asian Values,' No Longer American Values? Hardly!
By Warner Todd Huston
-By Warner Todd Huston
I always find it amazing when writers in the mainstream press seem to have so little knowledge of America and its history. Of course, I suppose that being blissfully ignorant of US history does help paper over their betrayal, substituting the feeling that they can maintain allegiance to American "ideals" as they attempt to advocate for the sort of socialist/communist vision that they want America to become, quite despite its true character and principles. Heck, if you don't know you are betraying your own country, you can't be ashamed of yourself for it, right? In any case, here we have another prime example of such a betrayal by The New York Times' Thomas Friedman from his May 4 piece where he has decided that America is finished, done, kaput. And guess what? It's all George W. Bush's fault -- shocking, I know.

Posted at 9:25pm on May 3, 2008 ‘Conservative’ Christian’s ‘Manifesto’ Has Few Conservatives Involved
By Warner Todd Huston
On May 2, the Associated Press uncritically reported that an effort to clarify where "evangelicals" stand in the culture/political war in America is soon to be released. It is to be called "An Evangelical Manifesto" and is touted by the AP as a statement by "evangelicals" that "faith is now too political." That isn't all. The AP is claiming that it isn't just Christian leaders in general that are saying this but that it is "conservative Christian leaders" who are standing up and denouncing politics in religion. But a little investigation proves that "conservative leaders" is not a very good description of those who have signed onto this "manifesto." In fact, many of the most well-known conservative Christian leaders in the country have decided not to sign onto the "manifesto" and many more weren't even consulted or included in the creation of this highly political document that pretends it stands against politics.
