By steven215
I just watched an attractive young woman with a young child on her lap tell Mr. McCain that he couldn't have the child for his hundred years in Iraq.
The only thing that struck me about the spot was why wasn't somebody aware that our country has a volunteer military and if the little boy is going to become a military man he has to ask permision, be approved, tested and then trained.
One would think that his mother might have considered that before the spot ran.

By patriotroom
Remembering our fallen heroes.
The 173rd Airborne in Viet Nam
On the 8th of November the angels were crying
As they carried his brothers away
With the fire raining down and the hell all around
There were few men left standing that day
Saw the eagle fly through a clear blue sky
1965, the 8th of November

Posted at 7:14pm on May 20, 2008 Hand that man a beer
By John Wayne
Why can't our young military members age 18 to less than 21 not enjoy a drink legally (in most circumstances)? I know there are more important things to worry about, but this is one thing that has bothered me for a long time. I served in the Air Force from 1978 to 1988 (enlisted at age 17). When I first went in, this was not an issue. The drinking age in most states was mostly 18, and I never had trouble getting a beer on base even when I was 17. In the mid '80s, someone started listening a bit to closely to MADD. In 1985, Federal law (United States Code, Title 10, Section 2683) and DOD Instruction 10.15.10 set forth very arbitrary and somewhat confusing rules concerning the legal drinking age of military members.

Posted at 4:14am on May 17, 2008 The word "Jihadist"
By Oscar98
I've noted before that I'm not a fan of calling terrorists "Jihadists." This article from the AP is about 3 weeks old, but indicates that the Bush Admin (finally) agrees with many info ops practitioners such as the US Army Special Forces.
Don't call them jihadists any more.

Posted at 9:06pm on Apr. 30, 2008 A McCain War Story
By patriotroom
It is stuff like this that Obama and Hillary can't buy with all the campaign cash in the world. By the way, don't know if you heard, John F. Kerry served in Vietnam too.
[Ret. Col. Bud] Day relayed to me one of the stories Americans should hear. It involves what happened to him after escaping from a North Vietnamese prison during the war. When he was recaptured, a Vietnamese captor broke his arm and said, "I told you I would make you a cripple."

By TXPoet
Have you even heard of the “Wounded Warrior Project”? The history of the Soldier’s Ride starts in 2004 and is on their website. One event this year was a three-day bicycle race from the “White House to the Lighthouse” at Annapolis Maryland via Walter Reed Army Hospital and Baltimore MD.

Posted at 4:13pm on Apr. 24, 2008 Petraeus and Odierno
By Ed54
By now everyone knows that GEN Petraeus (aka P4) has been selected to lead Central Command. There's no shortage of reportage on P4's potential impact at CENTCOM, so I won't belabor that topic much. I will say that many CENTCOM staffers feel the command has stagnated under Fallon's autocratic style, so any intellectual rejuvenation that occurs under P4 will be a good thing.
The lesser reported aspect of this move, but potentially the more significant one, is the nomination of LTG Ray Odierno to command MNC(I) in Iraq. This is great news for anyone who wants to see the US successful in Iraq.

By TXPoet
While reading the news and catching up on the latest condemnations of the USA by our supposed leaders I ran across an article that transported me back to my time of Military Service.
Here is the article from the Military Times. SSG Tabb was promoted posthumously to SFC (E-7). This hero volunteered to go to the Middle East. This was his fourth deployment.

By TXPoet
The LA Times in a story by Staff Writer Ralph Vartabedian questions John McCain's ability to serve as President and Commander in Chief based on the fact he draws a disability pension from the Navy for injuries he received as a 5 year POW during Vietnam.

Posted at 11:44am on Apr. 10, 2008 McCain needs to get behind new GI Bill
By Brandozilla
John McCain must get behind Jim Webb's and Chuck Hagel's new GI Bill, both for political reasons and more importantly because it is the right thing to do.
The bill, put forth as the first step in making "A 21st Century GI Bill," would give veterans who qualified tuition for a full four years of college, as well as a stipend for books and living expenses. Currently, veterans are covered by the Montgomery GI bill, which requires that troops pay $100 a month during their service, which then qualifies them for around $800 per month for college tuition. As Webb and Hagel pointed out in an op-ed last year, that barely covers courses and books at many community colleges, let alone a state school or private university.
