If Palin is warming up to Kathleen Parker, that move is a bit too cute for me

Apparently, the Palins are now reaching out to Kathleen Parker. If they are…well, thanks for nothing, Sarah.

Y’all remember Kathleen Parker? The conservative columnist who, in the middle of the 2008 Presidential campaign made a oh-so-noble-but-totally-implausible call for Sarah Palin to drop out of the race—again, right in the middle of it!—because she wasn’t qualified. Palin was supposed to say that she’d decided to spend more time with Trig and Piper…and of course, everyone in American and international politics would accept that. Of COURSE they would… What a practical suggestion. Do it for your country!

Then, when a lot of us pointed out that Kathleen was selling a huge load of BS, she responded by playing the martyr. Literally.

Short break as writer ties blindfold and smokes her last cigarette.

Then, she started cashing in.

A full-time gig at the WaPo. A ride on Air Force One. New-found respect among the MSM. And, last but not least, a Pulitzer Prize.

Kathleen Parker was one of the loudest conservative pundit voices giving credibility to the Obamaphiles. She gave cover to the Palin-bashers. “If BS were currency, Palin could bail out Wall Street herself.” (Hat tip to Allahpundit). After all, if conservative writer Kathleen Parker was down on Palin, then you could be, too! Parker made Sarah-bashing chic.

And now, Todd Palin reaches out to Kathleen Parker. If I were Kathleen Parker (and her employers at the WaPo), I’d be laughing my backside off. I get my cake and eat it too.

For those people who shot back at Kathleen Parker, in defense of Sarah Palin, I wouldn’t blame them if they felt a bit let down. I do.

animosity is best? Division between conservatives is what we need considering all the dire issues we are facing right now brought to us by the joker?

Quite frankly it was her opinion, one that may have had some credence considering some of the folks Palin has endorsed. And even setting that aside, as conservative as Palin seems to be, I was shocked she chose to join the absolute best example of a republican turncoat who was part of the reason so many were disgusted with the party and why America has who we have as president. Had McCain won, going on his past record, he would have been nothing more than the puppet of the democrats and Palin would be forced into a picture taking only role.

She was an upcoming star, it did make her more famous much faster, but she would have gotten there anyways. Her decision to run with McCain would sort of be like Haley deciding to run as VP with Florida’s Crist.

you said that like there were more then ONE in the diary because Kathleen Parker is a SHREW who wouldn’t know a Conservative if I walked up and SMACKED HER IN THE FACE!

And Parker used that trashing as an admission ticket into the world of beautiful people. Parker took swipes at most of the conservative movement, not just Palin.

Kathleen Parker gave the WaPo and the Beautiful People something they really valued: a living example of the “right”or “proper” kind of conservative.

The WaPo can—and does—-point to Kathleen Parker as proof that they’re not biased toward conservatives. Look, they can say, we have a conservative writer on staff—how can we be biased?

[WaPo National Editor Kevin] Merida, in a web chat last month, was asked, ?Will you (or Chris Cillizza) be adding more conservative/Republican voices to better balance what is now your predominately liberal/Democratic leaning coverage??

He responded that ?we recently have added to our staff the well-regarded Dave Weigel, who writes the new ?Right Now? blog,? before mentioning conservative columnists Kathleen Parker and Charles Krauthammer.

Palin-bashing really took wing when Kathleen Parker picked up her stick…and now Sarah Palin is approaching her, trying to make nice?

Todd Palin’s outreach to Parker can—and most likely will—be taken by the WaPo and the rest of the MSM as Palin’s absolution, if not de facto blessing, of Parker.

It’s up to Sarah, I suppose. But, the next time someone comes out and slimes her, methinks I’ll pause a bit before I jump to her defense.

filled with info, but what is your point?

My point is simple, Palin acted like the bigger person and put the past in the past. Not so sure what the author of the diary has such issues with it or why anyone else does. If everyone hated or stayed away from everyone who ever did them wrong, none of us would have many friends!

Nice long post, filled with info, but what’s your point.

          You’re joking, I hope.

Not so sure what the author of the diary

You can address me by my screenname. Unless you like sounding pompous, that is.

          has such issues with it

Did you not read the diary at all, or did you just not understand it? To be sure, it was a long diary, longer than 10 sentences…so did you need to remove your shoes and socks in order to count up all the lines?

          My point is simple,

          That’s not a surprise.

Palin acted like the bigger person and put the past in the past.

That’s a naive (for you) and selfish (for Sarah Palin) way to look at this.

Kathleen Parker bashed more conservatives than Sarah Palin in the pages of the WaPo. Now, if Palin makes nice with her, she’s de facto absolving Parker for what she did. That’s the last time I’m explaining that to you.

Let’s remember what “practical” suggestion Kathleen Parker made to Sarah Palin in the middle of the 2008 campaign: Acknowledge that you’re unprepared for the job of VP, publicly proclaim that you want to spend more time with your family and drop out of the race right in the middle of it. No rational political observer could honestly claim that Parker’s proposal was in any way plausible or workable in the real word.

But that didn’t matter. When conservatives rebuked Parker for suggesting something so utterly stupid, she then got to play the martyr, and blame the rest of the conservative world for being unreasonable.

She must have known the MSM wouldn’t state the obvious, because they saw the value in having a conservative bashing other conservatives for them. Why damage her credibility by pointing out her idea was a crock? So, they didn’t. (Who has time to be journalists when there’s an election to win?)

Still, I have to think the MSM cringed a wee bit when Kathleen Parker actually wrote, in a major US newspaper: “Writer ties blindfold and smokes her last cigarette.” In high school journalism class that gets you an F. In today’s journalism world it gets you—a Pulitzer Prize.

If Kathleen Parker has put herself in any kind of bind, she richly deserves it. Time for Sarah Palin to think of all the other conservatives Parker has trashed, and NOT rehabilitate her.

At the very least, I’d expect that Palin extract some sort of public mea culpa from Parker. If she doesn’t, I would expect Parker and the rest of the MSM to laugh their rear ends off at the Barracuda.

  • Section9

Parker is trying to worm her way back into the good graces of the conservative community. Besides, Todd called her, not Sarah.

Good move on Palin’s part, imho. Keep some distance. Now it’s Parker’s turn to show some respect.

  • smagar

Compare her profile on the WaPo editorial pages before she started bashing Palin and now. Kathleen Parker was a backbencher conservative pundit until she discovered Palin-bashing. She rode that discovery to fame.

If Sarah Palin absolves Kathleen Parker and lets her get off scot-free, then IMO she owes all of us—especially those who stood up for her when Kathleen Parker made Palin-bashing an acceptable, chic pasttime on the left—-a healthy explanation.
