Republicans in Illinois have had a large field to study in the primary campaign for United States Senator. With the departure of Dr. Eric Wallace, it appears that for conservatives one candidate is standing out above the others, Hinsdale businessman Patrick Hughes.
Writing at Illinois Review, Sam Pierce says:
Yesterday evening I attended a meet and greet for Patrick Hughes hosted by the Effingham GOP. The Effingham American Legion graciously allowed us to meet in their facility. It was great to meet Patrick Hughes and Charlie Johnson who is working with Patrick in his endeavor to bring real change to Washington. By real change, I mean as Hughes’ literature says “A Senator for Us. For a Change.” I mean a Senator who believes as Hughes told me yesterday evening, “The Constitution says what it says!”
The Senate seat is being vacated by Roland Burris (D), appointed amid scandal earlier this year by now-impeached former Governor Rod Blagojevich. Burris declined to seek reelection.
Hughes’ main opposition in the race is liberal Illinois Congressman Mark Kirk, one of a handful of Republicans to vote with Nancy Pelosi for the Cap and Trade legislation in the House over the summer. By contrast, Hughes has received the endorsement of Phyllis Schlafly (yes, that Phyllis Schlafly) and Mike Ditka.
I apologize for the poor quality of this video, shot in the aforementioned Legion Hall:
Hughes opposes abortion, supports concealed carry, a strong national defense, small government, low taxes, and a literal judicial interpretation of the Constitution.
Illinoisans will vote for a conservative, especially this year with the mood of the country so sour on liberal policies. Hughes will motivate the conservative base of the Party, and as an outsider is the sort of person for whom independents feel affinity. And Hughes brings the kind of outside-the-beltway perspective we need in Washington.
I fully endorse Pat Hughes for U.S. Senate, and urge my fellow conservatives to do the same.
And of course, send money.

Thank you...

The highest obstacle?
Conservative_Common_Man Sunday, November 15th at 10:17AM EST (link)Than you for referring to my post on IR. It seems the highest obstacle to electing a conservative in Illinois is the party establishment mindset. The mindset seems to be that only a liberal or “moderate” Republican can win (by effectively taking issues off the table?)
A comparable obstacle is the petty line of attack taken on Kirk’s behalf. It will be a battle, but one worthy of fighting!
Immoderately,
Sam Pierce

You're right Sam
anacreon Sunday, November 15th at 11:05AM EST (link)and we need help from our conservative allies to prevent “He Who Shall Not Be Nominated” winning a shot at the Illinois US Senate seat. We need the help of Club For Growth. They’re supporting Rubio in Florida, but our primary is in February so we need them first. I hope Susan B Anthony List gets involved also. An endorsement of Sarah Palin would do nicely as well. An endorsement of Dr. Eric Wallace would help immensely.
Mark Kirk as Senator would not be good for Illinois. He’s starting to feel the heat though by trying to get Palin to endorse him and by getting on TV as often as possible to seem like he’s a leader in Illinois. He voted to kill Illinois jobs with Cap and Trade. Not exactly what I am looking for in a “leader”,
Ditka never endorsed him
redtillimdead Sunday, November 15th at 12:24PM EST (link)He just said Ditka did. Usually when someone endroses a candidate, they release their own press release. The candidate does not release a press release without the endorser releasing a press release, which is what Hughes did.
“Pat spoke at the restaurant (two weeks ago) and presented small-government and Reaganomic points of view,” Ditka said in a statement. “He asked if I would endorse his candidacy, and I indicated I supported his views. We were never given the opportunity to agree to a press release which claimed I ‘officially endorsed his candidacy.’ “-Ditka, saying he did not endorse Hughes.

Nancy Pelosi can kiss my asstroturf.
See the link. That was debunked.
Socrates Sunday, November 15th at 12:47PM EST (link)I checked that before I posted it. The Hill is a biased source.

Gone 2500 years, still not PC.
And even they issued a correction.
Socrates Sunday, November 15th at 12:47PM EST (link)And yes, I’d like an apology.

Umm
redtillimdead Monday, November 16th at 12:32AM EST (link)Those few sentences? Where’s the OFFICIAL statement from Coach Ditka? Also, you can not deny the fact that Mark Kirk leads a statewide elected official by 6 points in the general election. Where’s the poll showing Hughes ahead?
Nancy Pelosi can kiss my asstroturf.
How could any conservative
redneck_hippie Sunday, November 15th at 2:36PM EST (link)need or want a more solid endorsement than one by Socrates!
