It’s Time.

We all like to think we’re the smartest one in the room. For the next 7 weeks, it’s time not to let it show.

I was a supporter of Christine O’Donnell in the Delaware Republican Senate primary.  Yet on election night, immediately after the polls closed, I tweeted this:

With 0.00% of Delaware precincts reporting, I endorse the winner of the Republican #DESen primary. #tcot

I didn’t know who would win. I realized that one battle was over, and another one beginning.

It’s time to support the Republican in every race, whether the runniest of RINOs or the most doctrinaire paleoconservative.

It’s time to be a grownup.  It isn’t time to display your intellectual consistency, or be imprisoned by it.  It isn’t about you any more.  It’s about winning, not throwing a tantrum because you can’t have the toy you wanted.

It’s time to stop to stop saying “Republican nominee X must be more conservative”. Support those you can support — or shut your yap.

It’s time to stop to stop saying “Republican nominee X can’t win in the general”. We’re in the general election now. Your options are to offer support for a given campaign, or to offer silence.

It is no longer the time to point out the flaws in our candidates.  It’s time to point out the flaws in theirs.

It’s time now to beat the Marxists.

As you can tell from the posting time, it was written after a very long day, during a very long week and even longer campaign season.

This thing will be hard enough without having to defend against friendly fire.

I wish I could recommend this a billion times Socrates.

Just.spot.on.

To me, “consensus” seems to be the process of abandoning all beliefs, principles, values and policies. So it is something in which no one believes and to which no one objects … There are still people in my party who believe in “consensus” politics. I regard them as Quislings, as traitors … I mean it. — Margaret Thatcher

By that quote in your signature? Do you really believe that if we got her on the phone she would advise me to vote for someone who betrayed everything I believed in just because they were a member of a certain party?

I think that’s trading the right to be called a principled leader for the (increasingly dubious) certitude that the way to win is to support those who betray what you believe in.

So, go ahead and cut off your nose

Vegas_Rick (Diary) Friday, September 17th at 8:26PM EDT (link)

to spite your face. But don’t ask the rest of us to turn over our country to statists simply so we can feel more principled than thou. Don’t you realize that if we don’t take back control of our country we stand one helluva chance of losing it for ever?

You go into battle with the troops you have. And the more troops you have, the better the odds you will prevail. We need the majority.

If somebody sells us out, well there’s always 2012 to send them packing. In my view, voting for a candidate who may not vote the way I want all the time makes alot of sense, if in the bigger picture, that person helps us save America.

“God is great, beer is good and people are crazy.”- Billy Currington

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan ‘press on’ has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.” Calvin Coolidge.

Now that the primaries are behind us,

mikerazar (Diary) Wednesday, September 15th at 9:12AM EDT (link)

it is time to enforce the eleventh commandment

Any Republican leader who speaks out publicly against a Republican nominee should be run out of the party.

I was shocked and disappointed to hear the defeatism being preached by Karl Rove last night. I have always trusted and respected Rove. If he wanted to share those views privately with a few close colleagues, fine. But Karl, those who worked for Castle as a means of replacing Harry Reid, should now show some intellectual integrity and rally around Christine to accomplish the same worthy goal.

If all conservatives embrace the Socrates tweet, we can still save our great nation.

We have a nation to save, people.

But isn't the lesson of Delaware...

Liberty2076 (Diary) Wednesday, September 15th at 12:54PM EDT (link)

That Conservatives beat Progressive Republicans, even with a ten-to-one spending advantage and a massive campaign of character assassination?

The only way that COD won was by BRINGING PEOPLE TO THE POLLS.

the voter turnout was 56,000 as opposed to the 30,000 projected.

Doesn’t the ability to turn out larger numbers have implications for the general election?

After Goldwater lost, voter turnout was abysmal. Those who stayed home were polled and over half responded that they stayed home because there was no significant difference between the parties.

Many will show up to vote in Delaware in the general because they have an actual choice.

Generally true, and a position I support, along with Christine O'Donell.

The_Gadfly (Diary) Friday, September 17th at 12:33PM EDT (link)

But I think Delaware is a special case. I think that even if Castle had won, turn out would have been up in the state. And I think he would have won the election handily. Rove isn’t wrong about that part of the calculation. Where I think he is wrong, is that Castle would have been a burden to the Republican party after he was elected, much the same way Snarlin’ Arlen was. Granted, Snarlin’ switched parties to run on Reagan’s coattails, but he was elected as a Republican and voted correctly at least once per session just like we were told Castle would. I’m still glad he’s gone, and even though it may be more difficult to elect O’Donell (especially with all the friendly fire being brought down by Castle and the establishment right before the end of the primary), in the end I think it will be worth it to see the better Republican elected.

48 days is really about 23 days: GOTV, GOTV, GOTV!

ColdWarrior (Diary) Wednesday, September 15th at 12:58PM EDT (link)

What wonderful primary results last night! As I told LaborUnionReport privately last night, some of us have “bragging rights” re the O’Donnell victory because we made some GOTV calls for her and also contributed, as I imagine some of you may have, too. It was fun! Talked to some nice people. Just a few calls, but every little bit helps. Like I keep saying, I just love Sharron Angle’s line about not her not needing $25 M from fat cat donors, just $25 from one million conservatives.

Or, as Rush just said this morning, if all of his listeners sent Christine O’Donnell a dollar, she wouldn’t need the NRSC’s money.

Tea Party Express and all those “tea partiers” who helped GOTV for Christine deserve kudos for winning this primary.

The final numbers on the Del. Sec. of State election results page:

Turnout by registered Repubs.: 32 per cent (was 12 per cent in 2006)

Turnout by registered Dems: 12 per cent

Number of registered Repubs. who voted in Senate primary race: 57,582

Number of registered Dems who voted in contested state treasurer’s primary race: 34,721

As Moe Lane would say, this spells DOOM.

And I had just a grand old time last night watching MSNBC and CNN — their heads were almost exploding.

But . . . we have to focus.

We really have only about 23 days to get GOTV activities in place, because early ballots in most states get mailed out in the first week in October. And voters fill them out right away. So . . . we need to figure out how to get in touch with those Republicans, and Republican-leaning independents, who DID NOT VOTE in the 2008 general election, and make sure they vote this time. They will determine our margin of victory.

Last night my local GOP committee had its monthly meeting and focus was GOTV. We heard from candidates and then we “talked amongst ourselves.” I explained to everyone how I planned to meet with my fellow PCs from my precinct and presented my plan to, with precinct walking sheets, to knock on the doors of every Republican who didn’t vote in the 2008 general election (122 voters) and the independents who did not vote (105). (The walking sheets contain this information.) We’ll divide that up among the eight of us and, because some households contain multiple voters who did not vote in 2008, we’ll each have to hit only about 20 doors. Won’t take long. For the Republicans, we’ll just give them a friendly courtesy reminder to get to the polls. For the independents, we’ll identify ourselves as Republicans and ask them a few “voter attitude” questions about Obamacare, TARP, Cap & Trade, etc. If they lean conservative, we’ll urge them to get to the polls. If not, we’ll thank them and move on.

I urged all of the PCs at the meeting to get with their fellow PCs in their precincts to do the same. It took about two minutes to explain the strategy. I’ll be meeting with my fellow precinct PCs ASAP to get it done. Then we’ll move to the neighboring precincts that have no PC and see if we can do the same there. But, before doing that, we’ll work with the David Schweikert campaign and the campaigns of our state legislature candidates to augment their GOTV activities so that we’re not duplicating efforts.

Lots to do.

It was the most energized monthly meeting I’ve been to. Standing room only and a lot of excitement, especially when I announced the O’Donnell win and gave out the numbers above.

That Achance recommended this diary. Sometimes a couple of drinks or just the wrong state of mind in an instant in time can lead you down the road to RedState or any other perdition. Here’s hoping that perhaps intentions (working for Murkowski) are left unfulfilled and absolution (RedState) is found. Someday.
