MEMBER DIARY

I give you Mark Kirk, the next U.S. Senator from Illinois

Republican Mark Kirk is running for United States Senate from Illinois. Congressman Kirk has represented Illinois’ 10th District since 2001, and is running against Obama crony mob banker Alexi Giannoulias. With strong stances on defense and economic issues, Kirk is the clear choice over Giannoulias.

Read on for why I, like other Illinois conservatives and Tea Party activists, am an unabashed supporter of Mark Kirk.

The Illinois Senate ballot will actually contain two separate elections, one for the upcoming 6-year Senate term, and one for the remainder of Barack Obama’s term. Obama was forced to resign in 2008 amid a scandal involving jailed former governor Rod Blagojevich. That means that when he wins, Kirk will replace Roland Burris in the Senate to vote against the Obama agenda during the “lame duck” session.

With Harry Reid promising a vote on the DREAM Act, granting legal status to illegal immigrant students, having an immigration hawk like Kirk in the Senate during the lame duck session could decide the outcome. Giannoulias is a sure vote for the entire Obama-Reid-Pelosi leftist agenda, being unable to name a single issue on which he would break from them.

Kirk is also strong on national defense issues, earning the endorsement of such groups as the National Defense PAC and Vets for Freedom. A military veteran of over 20 years in the Naval Reserves, Kirk has been a clear and consistent voice for a strong defense in the post-9/11 era.

Despite his background in mob banking, Alexi Giannoulias is really not that strong when it comes to economic issues. The Illinois Chamber of Commerce has gone with Mark Kirk:

Mark Kirk has achieved a 7% rating from the AFL-CIO, indicating that he’s against the union agenda that is crippling our government and economy.  Unsurprisingly, government employee unions like the thuggish SEIU and the NEA have come out in support of mob banking, endorsing Giannoulias.

A tax hawk, Kirk consistently votes to keep taxes low and the federal government within its constitutional limits.

For Tea Partiers, conservatives, and any Republicans, independents, or even Democrats who wants to stop the Obama-Reid-Pelosi agenda, Mark Kirk is the clear choice.

And he never made a loan to a mobster.

It’s not that I want him to lose, just that I don’t think his victory – should it happen – would be worth celebrating.

Subtle in its apparently nuanced approach, nipping around the edges of complexity but unwilling to engage for fear of actually having to accept the world as it is, rather than as one would like it.

There are no perfect candidates. You will never have the perfect candidate, because even if you yourself were to run, could you honestly say that the job you were running for were a perfect fit for you?

We always have to balance the choices available.

If you look closely at my diary, you will see that I find Kirk to be greatly preferable to the alternative presented me.

You, on the other hand, would rather just take your ball and go home.

If you claim to be conservative, as your name implies, then do yourself a favor. For the next couple of days, criticize your foes and not your allies..

and tell me it’s raining. As I have said several times (no reason you should remember), the name was chosen about six years ago when I first discovered the blog and was making a fly-by comment. Didn’t give it a second thought and didn’t realize where Red State was headed or consider the possibility that I’d still be here, but libertarian would now be a more apt description.

I didn’t argue that he wasn’t preferable, but preferable doesn’t mean good or worthwhile. Kirk isn’t an ally, and contrary to popular expression, enemies of my enemies aren’t always my friends. If Kirk had a D next to his name, he’d be a top target of everyone here, and it’s silly to pretend otherwise. Barney Frank is Washington’s greatest supporter of poker, but that doesn’t mean I want him reelected. Perhaps you would be better served supporting people who will support the cause of freedom rather than turning their fire on us for the six years following their election.

Once the primary was certified, the rest of us stopped having the debate that you still want to continue having. Socrates’ exasperation is perfectly justified, frankly: it’s not like he has a time machine.

If you can’t or won’t help, please at least stay out of our way.

Kirk is the Nominee….he’s one of the 10 we need…leave it be…there will be plenty of time to hold his feet to the fire after tuesday

almost like a dream we dared not dream, for so long. America can never be well if the heartland is not well. Something feels real right , and good, about having a friend of our heroes in place, representing Illinois. And after we have had to endure so much nauseating, anti-surge, abuse of America and its military from Durbin, Sen. Obama, et al., going back in line many years of IL-D Senators. Godspeed Land of Lincoln, put this man in, what a breath of fresh air.
