Illinois Governor Quinn, Speaker Madigan Backroom Deal Caught on Video

When Chicago voters returned Pat Quinn to his job as Governor of Chicago, they knew he wanted to increase their income taxes from 3% to 4%. That’s not much for most of his supporters, who accept a government check of one sort or another.

But shortly after winning reelection, he let it be known that a 33% increase was not enough, if his public sector union campaign contributions were to be honored. So he conspired with fellow Chicago Boss House Speaker Mike Madigan. Americans for Tax Reform obtained shocking video of their negotiation.

Is Quinn the gov. of Chicago, or as I believe, Daley the gov. of Illinois?

Quinn is Gov (not that either position is anything more than symbolic, given the endemic corruption that allows a select few to control state and local governments in IL).

just letting Soc know to correct text. What I really meant to type was is Quinn Gov. of Chicago, or is Daley mayor of Illinois, but I pressed enter before proofing

          Sorry for the confusion.

I was trying for an inside joke, since Quinn spends the bulk of his time in Chicago, around his power base.

And when Oak Brook and Hindsdale and Glen Ellyn suddenly see their citizens earnings being reported in Indiana or Michigan or Wisconsin (simply change ones’ residency to the summer cottage, eh?) the State will sink even further.

I dunno, maybe this is what the North Shore FiCons need to start taking the DuPage SoCons seriously – and vice versa – but it’s going to suck for the rest of the state.

but I’m going to guess she was fairly typical. An artist/entrepreneur. Voted for Clinton to get “free health care.” Believed in astrology (educated at Columbia, no less). Daughter of a wealthy dentist, Jewish, verrrrrrry socially liberal. I’m going to take a guess and say a Northshore ficon is a rare, rare bird. They overwhelmingly re-elected Jan Schakowsky with her usual 70%. Seems they don’t cotton to the Roadmap up there.

I will say that Tom Roesser also resides in the Northshore but again his like are a drop in the bucket.

Also, you have to report earnings where you work, so unless their laptop is their company, wouldn’t help, if I’m not mistaken.

Corporations must report where they earn, sorta. If they’re in multiple Illinois munis, a chain store for example, they can theoretically report in a single muni.

In practice, I know one guy who did this and while it worked during the last boomlet, it’s all coming apart on him now….

Retail and service sector are kinda screwed on this, but small manufacturing has no reason to stick around.

Then, consider the commuter class – because withholding is by state of residence, and that’s based on number of days per year in the state… I’m thinking some of the higher paid commuter class may be spending more time at the lakehouse.
