What Is Politico Hiding?

When did Jonathan Martin of Politico stop beating his wife? Frankly, it hasn’t been established that Jonathan Martin of Politico has ever completely stopped beating his wife.

If Jonathan Martin of Politico ever stops beating his wife, I think the public has a right to know about it.

I’m only pretty sure none of Jonathan Martin’s dog fighting took place in the United States.

I’m very sure we’ll all be shocked when the full extent of Jonathan Martin’s dog fighting and child slavery involvement is finally revealed.

Now, I’m not saying that Jonathan Martin is a child pornographer, but to my knowledge he has never denied it.

Maybe Politico isn’t attacking @TheHermanCain so viciously because he’s a black conservative, but just because he’s a Republican. Along with pigs flying, that also is possible.

What is clear is that Politico’s attack on Cain is a high-tech lynching:

As R. Stacy McCain notes:

The basic problem is that, absent a court proceeding, “harassment” is an accusation impossible to refute. And if you can get tens of thousands of dollars in “go-away” money by making such an accusation, hell, why not?

So just like Anita Hill, a he-said-she-said smear will, in some minds, stick.

Which is the point.

    According to Esquire Magazine way back Lyndon Johnson liked the idea of accusing an opponent of having sex with barn yard animals. One of his crony’s objected that it wasn;t true. LBJ acknowleged this but noted that his opponent would still have to deny it.

    Why doesn’t Biden speak up now and call on Politico to put up or shut up? Why don’t any other Democrats? Is this really where they want to go? Reminding us all that Joe Biden, who was recently predicting an increase in rape if congress won’t pass the president’s jobs bill, that this man has been a disgrace for nigh on 25 years? That NPR (who we already want to defund) led the publicity in smearing Judge Thomas?

    Clarence Thomas speaks with so much authority in the short video that then-Senator Joe Biden lowers his eyes, right after Thomas says “This is a circus. It’s a national disgrace.”

    Yeah, bring all of this back to us. Keep on insinuating, keep on punching Herman Cain with unfounded, unattributed smears.

    Thomas goes on:
    “It is a high-tech lynching for uppity blacks who in any way deign to think for themselves; and it is a message that unless you kowtow to an old order, you will be lynched, destroyed, caricatured, by a committee of the U.S. Senate rather than hung from a tree.”

    Clarence Thomas, American hero. Herman Cain, American success, U.S. Presidential candidate.
    Great diary.

    More of a general comment here on big picture:

    Why is the GOP so stupid in propping up the left wing media arm of the Dem party?

    Why can’t we at least learn to treat them as hostile? Why can’t the GOP at least coordinate their messages in the media like the Dems do? (you routinely see those montage clips if various Dems all saying same thing) Why does the GOP continue the lone ranger strategy, one against the media?

    Gingrich is about the only one who has recognized this, Perry just recently made a comment about it.

    It is time to at least start talking a freakin media strategy going forward.

    Instead, we continue pointing out media hypocrisy and bias ad nauseum, but do nothing about it.

    Just think of how different(much better) this country would be if we really did have a fair and balanced media?

    I think the liberation of the American people is the single most important liberation for the globe, than any other, bar none.

      Not long ago both parties had liberal and conservative members. The Democrats have sucessfully driven out the conserevative wing of their party. The GOP has yet to purge itself of the liberals. The Rockefeller Republicans are still very entrenched within the leadership of the GOP. They mandate that our candidates interact with the MSM to weaken the conservative candidates in favor of the more liberal ones. Power has it privledges. Only when we have a truly conservative leadership will we be able to resist the MSM effectively. ColdWarrior’s plan, in time, will erradicate these parasites and none too soon. I anxiously await the day.

    Politico’s Mike Allen was asked on “Morning Joe” if he would confirm that they actually had real evidence of sexually inappropriate behavior.

    Allen launches off into “What the women said was that he said things that made people feel uncomfortable in that way. ”

    That’s it. But then he immediately follows up with:

    ” This story clearly resonated with people. There’s an estimate out there that this is the biggest single Twitter controversy of the campaign. 48,000 mentions of Herman Cain on Twitter yesterday. ”

    That suggests to me he is either saying we got nothin’. Or he’s really stoked about twitter numbers.

    NewsBuster’s Mark Finkelstein said Allen was “doing his best “look–a squirrel!” dodge”.

      False Accusations Against Cain Fail to accomplish eir entire campaignwhat his detractors wanted, to shut down his campaign. Today we learn that a nationwide poll after all this trash talking still shows Cain in the lead and the Cain campaign states they have just had their highest campaign contribution on record for the entire campaign.

      This goes to show that the people are tired of this kind of dirty politics and will not let it influence their opinion about candidates.

    And then they made it worse afterward. It was like saying that Martin engaged in bestiality, but you’re not releasing details about which type(s) of animals.

    Who knew???

      Its a shocker, true. Everyone’s known about it for years. Hope he doesn’t stop to think about it if queried.

      Cain on the other hand has no problem saying…hey, I gotta go back in time and figure this out..

      ___
      “When Laura asked him about the inconsistencies in his reactions to ?settlement? news, Cain responded, ?Remember this happened 12 years ago.? He continued, ?The word settlement suggested some kind of legal settlement.? Reflecting on it later in the day, he realized ?there was an agreement. ? I didn?t recall it right away.?

      He confirmed that he and his campaign did know that Politico was working on a story, but ?made a conscious decision to deal with this when it came out.? Cain said, ? We weren?t going to chase anonymous sources.?

      ?It looks like the campaign is reacting in real-time,? Laura said …”
      ______

      Organizing a puzzle from years ago then making a deliberate executive decision not to run after anonymous sources. Sounds like a good plan.

      I’m sure Martin has a plan too.

    My first post here.*

    Thought-provoking diary.

    I have no dog in this fight, which Politico’s Martin may or may not be organizing.

    Every “scandalous” report has a few players:

    * info source
    * leaker
    * media disseminater
    * target

    Much has been made about the target here, and whether Cain’s 1990s actions have been appropriate. Even more is being made in the op-ed pages this morning about “it’s not the crime, but the cover-up,” and it’s my opinion that Cain has done a woeful job of handling this controversy, mismanaging this crisis, with story-shifting. This may end up harming his brand more than anything else.

    But there are other parties here, and the diary takes a look at one of them. While I agree that by merely making hollow accusations can be damaging to the victim, the post turns the tables on the messenger of the allegations. But there’s another party in play: the source of the information.

    The whole kerfuffle reminds me of a story posted on another conservative site not long ago. The controversy then: is a site’s proprietor responsible for the inflammatory content posted on it against a Republican politician? Suddenly, the messenger became the message, and everybody agreed the politician was the victim and the “leaker” was the villain. The entire controversy was whether media should give a platform to a shameful allegation. Frankly, I don’t recall ever seeing an editor of media being called on the carpet by another journalist at another media outlet for editorial decision-making.

    Here we are, just weeks later, with the same type of discussion. Except there is nary a wag focusing on the source of the information. The politician is not universally regarded as the victim here. And Politico, the messenger, is receiving some, but not universal, condemnation.

    The whole saying about ‘when you throw mud you get some on yourself’ should be in play here. A bigger effort should be made to urge Politico to reveal its source. Who leaked it? If it was one of Cain’s opponents, then he or she should be stained by this scandal. That, in itself, may discourage other low-blow tactics. Let’s see this GOP primary decided on the issues.

    I have a harder time condemning a media messenger. If Martin is mixing up meritless mud, should he also get marked? Maybe. Aw, heck. It’d be fun to see him address the poster’s question about alleged barnyard dalliances.

    * I promise next time to be more funny and snarky.

    here is a link to my comments on another thread.

    But in a nutshell, this should never have been printed until the Politico knew precisely what the accusations were and who made them. Without that information, they can’t possibly evaluate how newsworthy it is, which means this is only one step more credible than a Dan Rather story about the Texas Air National Guard, if that.

    There are many instances of MSM bias against conservatives but this is not one of them.. Whether proven or not, sexual harassment allegations against a candidate for POTUS is a legitimate story. If Politico hadn’t broken the story, someone else would have. Don’t shoot the messenger.

      And if someone else had gone with this crap story, I’d have pilloried them, too, and will do so every time.

      When we accept the left’s narrative and say “Oh, no! What if it’s true?”, then we give them the power to control who we choose for our candidates.

      I assume they are lying, unless they have proof.
