Obama’s transition problems

Obama has abandoned his ethics promises

Watching the news suggests that everyone’s legs are tingling. Everyone is praising Barack Obama’s smooth transition. That seems odd considering what a miserable ethical disaster it has been. Consider this list:

Obama’s governor, Rod Blagojevich, was arrested for trying to sell his US Senate seat. He tried to involve the SEIU, one of Obama’s key supporters.

Obama appointed a Secretary of Commerce, Bill Richardson, who had to withdraw his name after it turns out that he gave state contracts to donors.

Obama’s nomination for Secretary of the Treasury, Timother Geitner, appears to have defrauded his employer, requesting money from the IMF as “gross-ups” for self-employment taxes he said he had paid but never did. (documents below the fold)

Obama appointed a lobbyist, William Lynn, for the 3rd largest defense contractor to the position of Deputy Secretary of Defense, in violation of Obama’s own transition rules.

Obama appointed a lobbyist, William Corr, to Deputy Secretary of Health and Human Services, also in violation of Obama’s own transition rules.

Obama’s transition is being advised by an executive on telecom policy, in violation of Obama’s own transition rules.

Obama has appointed an energy and environment czar who is married to an energy lobbyist.

I can’t think of a transition that failed more to vet its appointees or to follow its own procedures.

If Obama runs the government like he has run his transition, it will make Richard Daley’s city hall look like a church. (oh yeah. Did you know that Rahm Emanuel was Daley’s chief fundraiser? That’s a good sign. I am sure that he didn’t learn about pay-to-play there)

Who exactly said the vetting process failed? I don’t think it failed at all. I think the transition team fully vetted everyone of these nominees, knew only full well where they were from and what skeletons they had in the closet, and figured there was so much enthusiasm for The One, no one was going to raise their voice in objection to anyone, except for a smoke screen here or there. And so far, they have been absolutely right (e.g Clinton, Holder and Geithner GOP butt kissing hearings).

This guy has some real probs with the IRS. He ought to be the perfect guy to “vet” any tax issues Barry’s Chicago-thug buds might have. By the time Geitner is done, the IRS should be in shambles. Bottom line…. pay your taxes, have H&R fill’em out, sit back and enjoy the show that is THE ONE! HEH

      “It’s a minor problem.”
      “It’s a small glitch.”
“It doesn’t seem like a big deal.”

Of course it doesn’t to those morons, they’re the same people that condone this kind of stuff amongst themselves. Here’s all we have here. A high level bureaucrat, very smart though he may be, decided he was going to cheat on his taxes, and that’s exactly what he did. And to put some additional icing on the cake, he applied for and received a tax allowance from the IMF, on the condition that he would use the allowance to pay his taxes, and he kept the money.

Other than that, he’s good to go; he’s met all the standards we expect from our appointed government officials.

So, I agree, this is no big deal. Just pass me the barf bag.

But it’s a bit more risky than what was done to Kent Williams (Tennessee state representative) Wouldn’t it be just a hoot if all the conservatives in the US just “forgot” to pay our taxes this year? Yeah, I’m sure that nothing would happen to us, just like nothing is happening to Geitner, right? In fact, we’d probably all be nominated to serve in the Obama administration for something or other. Well, on second thought, maybe I don’t want that. I’ll just pay my dang taxes.

I will go about my business, just like it is any other day…
why Obama was just too good to listen to Bush’s farewell address,..
I will miss the class act the both George and Laura brought to the Whitehouse.
this is the real black president Clinton was not, only still looking for what it can bring them POWER AND MONEY, oh and alittle corruption on the side.
I am infuriated that the Treasury nominee will get to skate on his”mistake”
I personally know someone that is in jail because of his employees mistakes on some tax issues..he took the fall as he is an accountant.
AND now is in jail away from his children while they are growing up
