Dem Senate candidates afraid to support card check?

Brian pointed to the bizarre reposition of Rep. Charles Melancon (D-LA) on card-check. But this points to a broader pattern. Senators running in 2010 in potentially contests Senate seats are afraid to take a position on the issue.

For example, in Colorado, appointed Senator Michael Bennet is “stuck in neutral” on card check, according to the Denver Post. In Arkansas, Blanche Lincoln won’t support it. Pennsylvania’s Arlen Specter is famously wrapped around the axle on it.

With card-check, cap-and-tax-and-trade, and Obamacare in the pipeline, how much soon until these Senators back away from the President?

They argue that the new and improved version of the bill is acceptable as opposed to “doing nothing”.

And purely by coincidence, they’ll get some huge grants from Washington the same week.

No amount of pork will get some of these guys to vote for stuff like Cap ‘n’ Tax and Card Check if they know that they’ll still be likely to lose their next election. (And pork won’t buy off enough voters to do the trick.)

I’m pretty sure there’s nothing short of *gutting* these bills that will get some of these vulnerable Dems to vote for them.

The Dem leadership is between a rock and a hard place on this stuff… I LOVE it!! :)

My senator, Blank Stare, a.k.a. Blanche Lincoln would support card check if she weren’t up for reelection I’m confident of it. In spite of the fact that AR went for McCain 67% and we’re home to Wal-Mart and JB Hunt.
I’m in the county GOP and believe we have a great field of candidates heading into the primary to challenge Lincoln.
After I’ve heard more from each I’ll start providing my opinion of each. IMO of the four I’ve met and heard speak only two are viable.

is that a couple of people like Collins and Snowe vote for it, so she can vote against it. It worked great for the so-called “blue dogs” in the House (like Melancon) who got Nancy’s okay to vote no thanks to the 8 idiot Reps who voted yes.

There is a whole other legislative session to go. Its clear that the Obama strategy was to cram as much through while he still had a lot of good will.

Its really morbid, but much will ride on the health of Byrd and TK. Much will also ride on whether there is any real pressure on vulnerable Democrats.
