Mourdock: A Man of Many Inconsistencies

Why did Richard Mourdock support collective bargaining, including legislation that prohibits the permanent replacement of striking workers?

During the 2008 presidential election, Barack Obama tried his best to pander to Democratic unions, promising to “work to ban the permanent replacement of striking workers, so workers can stand up for themselves without worrying about losing their livelihoods.”  Here’s the excerpt from Obama’s grand plan to change America:

Protect Striking Workers: Obama and Biden support the right of workers to bargain collectively and strike if necessary. They will work to ban the permanent replacement of striking workers, so workers can stand up for themselves without worrying about losing their livelihoods.

Why on Earth would Richard Mourdock – a so-called Tea Party conservative – side with Barack Obama and big Democratic unions on this key issue?  It just doesn’t make much sense.  Don’t believe it’s true? Take a look at the facts.

In an October 30, 1992 candidate questionnaire printed by The Message, an Evansville weekly paper, Mourdock was asked, “Do you support collective bargaining including legislation that prohibits the permanent replacement of striking workers?”  While Senator Dan Coats (R-Ind.) checked “Oppose,” both Mourdock and his Democratic opponent answered “Support.”

Are you kidding me?  Mr. Erikson and his band of merry men are running around screaming about Dick Lugar when Mourdock sided with Barack Obama and the big union bosses on a key issue like collective bargaining and the replacement of striking workers?  Dick Lugar has voted consistently for right-to-work and against card check legislation.  Who’s the consistent conservative now?

Mourdock’s moved right since 1992 while Lugar’s moved left. It’s an easy choice.

Another $20 going to Mourdock. Donate here.

I suspect once it does and Richard Mourdock brings conservatism back to this beloved Hoosier State senate seat, your trolling will float away like a toot in the wind.

In the meantime, congratulations on earning the Mourdock campaign another $100..courtesy of your diary and my wallet :)

And, as I’ve noted before and you’ve never responded to, Mourdock lives in the state and has lived there continuously for well over 30 years. Lugar hasn’t lived in the state for 30 years.

Mourdock will represent the people of Indiana. Lugar represents the power brokers in Washington DC. He – and Orrin Hatch – are the poster children for everything that is wrong in Washington.

You’ve been drinking too deeply from Lugar’s bed pan.

Any word on why the campaign accepted the endorsement of the Lunch Pail Republicans? Do you know of any Indiana REPUBLICANS who have donated yet to that organization? According to the latest FEC filings, only ONE donor is on board…$100,000 from EPEC which happens to donate 90% of its PAC funds to Democrats….Interesting..

richard mourdock is a principled conservative and will make a great senator for indiana.

and this is THE key primary race for the conservative movement. career politicians like lugar need to shown the door. for crying out loud, he doesnt even live in indiana.

represent Mourdock’s position and have nothing to say about where Lugar is on the issue. If anything, your post is a good reason to support Murdock.

That was then; this is now. You cite a 1992 questionnaire? Really?
