Mourdock Wears The Badge of Shame As A Badge Of Honor: Will The Hoosier Voters Stand For Someone Aligned Against Israel?

For months, Richard Mourdock has been traveling around the state of Indiana speaking to pro-Israeli groups in an attempt to make the case that he would be a more effective advocate for Israel than Senator Dick Lugar. Not only is this claim ridiculous based on the decades of Mr. Lugar’s tireless support for Israel, but it also conflicts with Mr. Mourdock’s latest high profile endorsement from Washington-insider Grover Norquist.

Mr. Norquist has a history of questionable comments and actions that might interest those who favor strong support of Israel. In fact, Mr. Norquist has been deeply involved with many individuals and organizations who are outspoken enemies of Israel. Below are just a few examples:

Representative Frank Wolf (R-VA) raised questions about Norquist’s relationship with Abdurahman Alamoudi – a “terrorist financier and vocal Hamas supporter.” Wolf submitted the following to the Congressional Record [October 4, 2011]:

According to Senate lobbying disclosure records of his now defunct lobbying firm, Janus-Merritt Strategies, around the years 2000 and 2001 Mr. Norquist’s firm represented Abdurahman Alamoudi, who was convicted two years later for his role in a terrorist plot and who is presently serving a 23-year sentence in federal prison ….

According to the DOJ press release, Alamoudi, a naturalized citizen, pled guilty to three federal offenses:

  • One count of violating the International Emergency Powers Act;
  • One count of false statements made in his application for naturalization;
  • A tax offense involving a long-term scheme to conceal from the IRS his financial transactions with Libya and his foreign bank accounts and to omit material information from the tax returns filed by his charities.

It is important to point out that Alamoudi’s ties to terrorist groups were no secret prior to his arrest.

Alamoudi spoke at an October 2000 rally in front of the White House in support of Hamas and Hezbollah during the period he was represented by Norquist’s firm , according to Senate lobbying disclosure records. The “Rally Against Israeli Aggression” was sponsored by Norquist’s Islamic Free Market Institute, according to a September 2000 “Islamic Institute Friday Brief.” The Islamic Free Market Institute was created by Grover Norquist and operated out of his Americans for Tax Reform office in Washington, thanks to sizable start-up contributions from Alamoudi, according to a March 11, 2003, article in the St. Petersburg Times by Mary Jacoby.

I have seen video from the rally, where Alamoudi roared from the stage:

“I have been labeled by the media in New York to be a supporter of Hamas, anybody supports Hamas here?”…

“I wish they added that I am also a supporter of Hezbollah. Anybody supports Hezbollah here?”…

A few months after the Lafayette Park rally, Alamoudi was photographed in Beirut at a conference attended by representatives of the terror groups Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah and al-Qaida, also according to the March 2003 St. Petersburg Times article.

In addition to Alamoudi’s outspoken support for Hamas and Hezbollah, he expressed private support for the 1994 terrorist attack against a synagogue in Buenos Aires, Argentina , which killed 85 people and injured hundreds, according to a December 17, 2003, article in The American Spectator by Shawn Macomber, who reported: “In a wiretapped conversation made public in the recent criminal complaint, he (Alamoudi) praises a 1994 bombing in Buenos Aires. ‘The Jewish Community Center. It is a worthy operation,’ Alamoudi tells an unidentified man, in Arabic. ‘I think that the attacks that are being executed by bin Laden and other Islamic groups are wrong, especially hitting the civilian targets. Many African Muslims have died and not a single American has died. I prefer to hit a Zionist target in
America or Europe…I prefer honestly like what happened in Argentina.”

Wolff also raised questions about Norquist’s relationship with Sami Al-Arian — who “pled guilty in 2006 to conspiring to provide services to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.” Wolf submitted the following to the Congressional Record [October 4, 2011]:

Mr. Norquist also associated with terror financier Sami Al-Arian, according to Mary Jacoby’s reporting in March 2003, in the St. Petersburg Times. Al-Arian pled guilty in 2006 “to a charge of conspiring to provide services to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), a specially designated terrorist organization, in violation of U.S. law,” and is under house arrests, according to a Department of Justice press release. The Palestinian Islamic Jihad’s “paramilitary wing – the al-Quds Brigades – has conducted numerous attacks, including large-scale suicide bombings,” according to the National Counterterrorism Center.

Who is Sami al-Arian? An October 2003 federal affidavit noted that Al-Arian had longstanding connections to associates of al Qaeda. According to the affidavit, “Sheik Rahman (the “Blind Sheik”) visited Al-Arian at his residence in Tampa and spoke at his mosque.” Rahman is currently serving a life sentence in U.S. prison for his role in the 1993 World Trade Center attack and additional terror plots. The federal affidavit also disclosed Al-Arian’s ties with Alamoudi.

Al-Arian’s relationship with Mr. Norquist appears to have spanned several years. Prior to his arrest in February 2003, Sami Al-Arian visited Norquist’s office in Washington for a meeting , also reported in the June 11, 2003, article in the Wall Street Journal. According to Continetti, Mr. Al-Arian also “cc’d Norquist on an e-mail he sent to the Wall Street Journal protesting an editorial that had pointed out his terrorist connections.”

Mr. Norquist himself served as a key facilitator between Al-Arian, Alamoudi and the White House, according to Mary Jacoby’s reporting in March 2003 in The St. Petersburg Times . She reported that “In June 2001, Al-Arian was among the members of the American Muslim Council invited to the White House complex . . . The next month, the National Coalition to Protect Political Freedom – a civil liberties group headed by Al-Arian – gave Norquist an award for his work to abolish the use of secret intelligence evidence in terrorism cases.”

Furthermore, The Center for Security Policy alleges that Norquist partnered with key defenders of the Iranian government in the United States [The American Thinker, November 14, 2011]

Finally, Norquist made clear that the only way for the Republican Party to be united and “at full strength” is for anti-Israel GOP presidential candidate Representative Ron Paul (R-TX) to have a speaking slot at the 2012 Republican National Convention. [The Guardian, January 11, 2012].

There is an old saying that goes something like this, “Show me your friends, and I’ll tell you who you are.” Mr. Mourdock has been endorsed by a man who has been tied to numerous supporters of terrorist organizations and apologetically makes Holocaust references for political gain. Is this the kind of company the people of Indiana want their Senator keeping?

got rid of Newt, Santorum, Cain and Perry, so it may or may not be worth the money. My problem with these squish PR hacks is that they tend to throw rocks at conservatives and softballs at demorats.

  • civil truth

is now cold, hard, and unfit for human consumption – and starting to make a mess of the floor.

When the primary is over, take a look over the Rule of Holes.

  • gekster

How much are you getting paid to post this crap.
I can bet those paying you arn’t getting thier moneys worth.

And so what if someone endorses someone.
Someone endorsing a candidate does by no ways mean said candidate shares the views of the endorser.

You’re strtching it thin with this, another no-reccoed hit job.

  • http://travismonitor.blogspot.com Freedoms Truth

    Let’s parse this a bit.

Mourdock is bad because he got an endorsement from a prominent anti-tax activist, Norquist.

Even though that endorsement was solely about Mourdock signing the tax limitation pledge and Lugar NOT doing it, the Lugar funkie brings up Norquists other activities.

Getting a Norquist endorsement is bad because Norquist 11 years ago did some lobbying for some palestinian guy who has friends in Hamas and sundry groups.

Yeah, and 3 steps removed from my LinkedIn and Facebook networks might be some folks in jail right now.

This is an absurd 3 steps removed guilt-by-association smear. Bizarre!

“this is an absurd 3 steps removed guilt-by-association smear” nails it.

I just sent Mourdock another $50 for the stretch run.

Why haven’t you gone after Palin yet?

    direction first.

on all of these candidates’ “friends of friends”. I’m guessing that won’t turn out great for you candidate — but I’m more interested in figuring out who would make the best Senator. That choice is pretty easy for me.

    Including people who:
    Jaywalk
    Drive 70 in a 65 mph zone
    Tear tags off mattresses
    Pee in the shower

Guilt by association! This will surely do Mourdock in!

(Psst, buddy: you’re doing it wrong.)

I picture “starzandstripez” as a campaign peon who is being forced to post smears on Redstate by someone else with Lugar’s campaign. That person has no real idea of the effect of the posts.

These posting are nothing but bad for Lugar’s campaign. I’ll be donating $50 to Mourdock shortly.

I must confess! I am Starzandstripez. Mr. Mourdock found out some compromising info from my past and is blackmailing me into sock-puppetting these diaries to destroy Sen. Lugar’s career. The guilt wracks my alcohol-poisoned system and I cannot take another step….

In fact, I only spelled Stars And Stripes as Starzandstripez because I invented this account in a belladonic haze. This confession has cleansed my soul. Soon the primary will take place and I can cease and desist from leading this wretched double life. God have mercy upon my miserable, flailing soul!

    Get a grip please.

I believe American politicians should not have their complete loyalties with Israel as that would be treason, BUT our politicians would be wise to maintain a strong alliance for both foreign policy strategy and religious reasons.

As for as the Israeli government goes, well if I lived their I would hate their government and their government is not perfect. It is pretty bad in comparison to even ours, but much better than its neighbors obviously. Again, the loyalties need to be more with the people than with the government. That is my stand on Israel.

The fact that you are disparaging Norquist and Paul in this post tells me that your hero Dick Lugar is a financial Keynesian, which is why he voted for so many anti-free market bills while being Obama’s best friend.
